In the era of technology, smartphone use occupies an important position in our lives. The present research focused on the psychological consequence of frequent smartphone use and possible way to remedy it. We proposed that frequent smartphone use could damage people’s sense of control and in turn trigger nostalgia. Moreover, nostalgia could directly compensate for the low sense of control induced by frequent smartphone use. Five studies ( N = 918) were conducted. Study 1 found through a field study that frequent smartphone use increases nostalgia. Studies 2 and 3 found through 14-day tracking and a laboratory experiment that frequent smartphone use decreased people’s sense of control and then triggered nostalgia. Furthermore, nostalgia could enhance the low sense of control, and it worked by increasing self-esteem (Studies 4 and 5). The findings show the negative impact of frequent smartphone use, and nostalgia is an effective way to remedy it without preventing people from using smartphones.

This research tests the idea that a salient global identity positively affects people’s willingness to pay for environmentally friendly products. Results from a large-scale multi-nation survey ( N = 75,934) as well as two studies ( N = 322) conducted in Singapore supported this prediction. We found that participants with a more (vs. less) dominant global identity indicated greater support for environmentally friendly products and exhibited increased pro-environmental behavior. We further show that the effect is driven by a stronger feeling of personal responsibility toward the environment among individuals who possess a dominant global identity. Findings from this research suggest that the formation of stronger global identity, a psychological consequence of increasing globalization, can have an important impact on people’s pro-environmental behavior.

The importance of incorporating religious values into psychotherapy that is used in treating the mental health needs of Evangelical Christians was examined. Rationality and pathology were analyzed from an Evangelical Christian perspective. Guilt was seen as the primary psychological consequence of self-defeating behaviors. Evangelical Renewal Therapy was offered in response to the apparent need for a religious psychotherapy that would focus on the mental health needs of Evangelical Christians. The Atheistic Ideation Complex purports that atheistic ideations as measured by the Atheistic Ideation Reference Scale lead to unwanted emotional consequences. Repentance, the process of change in Evangelical Renewal Therapy, is achieved through the analysis of moral action, rebuke, confession, prayer, recompense, and mortification through good works.
