French fries, prepared either at home or in fast food restaurants, are one of the most desired dishes of Romanians and the main contributors to the intake of acrylamide through the diet. The aim of this study was to investigate how the frying in at home and fast food conditions influences the acrylamide level of French fries and to establish a correlation between acrylamide content and the color parameters. Potatoes from the Queen Anne variety and two types of oil (sunflower, palm) were used. Frying in at home conditions was realized in a pan in sunflower and palm oils (103°C for 13-15 minutes) and frying in fast food conditions was performed in a fryer using only palm oil (170°C for 11 minutes). Determination of acrylamide was achieved fallowing the GC-MS/MS method. The level of acrylamide in French fries fried in at home conditions showed higher acrylamide content when the sunflower oil was used (764.58 µg/kg) compared to the samples fried in palm oil (541.65 µg/kg). Also, a variation between the two types of frying was observed when using palm oil and a lower acrylamide level was obtained for French fries fried in at home conditions (541.65 µg/kg) than for potatoes fried in fast food conditions (684.37 µg/kg). For all the samples analyzed the acrylamide content exceeded the benchmark level of 500 µg/kg set by the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2158. Linear correlations between acrylamide levels, expressed in % d.m., and the color parameters (L*, a* and b*) were found: as the level of acrylamide increased, the parameters L* and b* (R2 = 0.80) decreased, and a* increased (R2 = 0.68).

Introduction and purpose. Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic polish government in March 2020 decided to directs students to remote learning. This condition last -with minor exceptions- one and half year.Material and method. The aim of the study was an evaluation of public experience and attitude towards online learning.Results. All the respondents between March and May 2020 learned via online devices. The average note for e-learning was 2,99 in a 5-grade scale, while a score for stationary learning was 3,84. Students motivation, engagement and stress level decreased during remote-learning. 43% students claimed, that their marks improved during that time. The main disadvantages of online school were too much time spent in front of the screen and monotony of the lessons. Among the advantages was for example time for additional hobbies. Realisation of practical activities was more difficult or impossible for 74,9% of the respondents. Almost one quarter of the people did not have adequate home conditions to study online. Practical activities were often difficult or impossible to realise.Conclusions. Online learning was a necessity during the pandemic, however this type or gaining knowledge has both advantages and disadvantages. It influenced not only scientific issues, but also students’ motivation and sociopsychological aspects. To conclude, twice as many students prefer stationary than online learning – respectively 39,7% vs 21,1%.

Home field advantage is universally accepted across most major sports and levels of competition. However, exact causes of home field advantage have been difficult to disentangle. The COVID-19 pandemic offers a unique, natural experiment to isolate elements related to home field advantage since all 2020 regular season Major League Baseball games were played without fans. Results provide no statistically significant evidence of a difference in home field advantage between the 2019 and 2020 seasons, evidence that home crowd support is not a driver of home field advantage. There does appear to be a statistical advantage by the home team batting second in the inning. Travel fatigue seems to have no impact on home field advantage, and while home field advantage seems to increase throughout the 2020 season, we chalk that up to small sample noise. Despite lacking historical precedence, betting markets seemingly respond efficiently to the new home conditions. Keywords: home field advantage, market efficiency, baseball, ghost games

The COVID-19 pandemic posed a challenge for all confined populations, dealing with their home resources and suffering changes in their psychological well-being. The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between home conditions (i.e., having children, square meters of the house and square meters of the terrace or similar) and psychological well-being, and to test whether this relationship is mediated by Internet addiction and nostalgia. The sample was composed of 1509 people, aged between 18 to 78 years (67.6% women). Structural Equations Models and 2 × 2 ANOVAs were analyzed. It was found that better home conditions mean greater psychological well-being, and that this relationship is partially mediated, in a negative sense, by Internet addiction and nostalgia, especially after day 45 of confinement and with greater intensity in women. These results provide evidence about how psychological well-being can be preserved during a confinement situation, which may be useful for planning healthy strategies in similar circumstances in the future.

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: Public Institution(s). Main funding source(s): Ministry of Health Czech Republic; identification of organization 65269705 Background Although continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is currently still the gold standard for therapy of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), another alternative or adjunct effective therapeutic options exist. Lifestyle intervention focused on nutrition and weight reduction, regular exercise, sleep hygiene, smoking and alcohol restriction represents a recommended therapeutic strategy for OSA. Though this intervention represents an effective tool for improving objective and subjective parameters of OSA, it’s effectivity depends on components of the intervention, OSA severity and gender. Comprehensive remotely-supervised cardiac rehabilitation (CR) represents possible training intervention in home conditions using elements of telemedicine. Purpose This prospective study aims to investigate the feasibility and effect of a remotely-supervised CR in patients with newly diagnosed OSA with Apnea-Hypopnea Index greater than 15 episodes per hour. Methods This monocentric study is designed as a prospective, parallel, randomised, controlled trial of remotely-supervised 12-week CR in male patients between 40-60 years old with newly diagnosed OSA indicated to CPAP therapy. The sample size is calculated by 0,05 level of significance and 80% statistical power on 25 participants in each group. The Intervention group will undergo comprehensive remotely-supervised CR in home conditions with teleconsultation (contains telecoaching, telemonitoring) via regular phone calls and e-mails at least 1-2 times a week. The intervention will include nutrition, health-related lifestyle and behavioral changes recommendations, and at least 5 times a week 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic training, 10 minutes of inspiratory and expiratory muscle training with breathing device and 10 minutes of oropharyngeal exercise along with individually titrated CPAP therapy. The control group will undergo individually titrated CPAP therapy only. The participants in both groups will go through the following assessments before and after this study: polysomnography, spirometry, anthropometry and body composition examination, laboratory values examination, quality of life questionnaires, Epworth sleepiness scale, 6-min walking test. Conclusions: Comprehensive remotely-supervised CR, as mentioned in this study, may represent an adjunct therapy with a promising future in patients with OSA. The study is occupied with a current issue and can also bring new possibilities and experiences in remote rehabilitation.

A field trial performed in-home conditions was conducted on 24 dogs naturally infected with Giardia, in order to compare the efficacy of fenbendazole and metronidazole. Animals were allocated in groups randomly in order to obtain two groups of 12 dogs each with similar parasitic loads of Giardia cysts: dogs in Group A were treated with fenbendazole (Panacur®, Intervet Italia Srl) administered at the dose of 50 mg/kg orally once a day for 5 consecutive days, dogs in Group B were treated with metronidazole (Flagyl®, Zambon Italia Srl) administered orally at the dose of 50 mg/kg, once a day for 5 consecutive days. All the dogs that were shedding Giardia cysts after the first treatment (Day 0) were retreated (either at Day 7 or at Day 14 or at Day 21) until a negative result was obtained with the same treatment. Additionally, all the dogs were re-examined at Day 50. All the dogs were tested for the presence of Giardia cysts using a fecal flotation method (FLOTAC). The percent efficacy of the treatments (A and B) was calculated at each sampling point (Days 7, 14, 21, and 50) as reduction in mean Giardia cysts. After the first therapy, on day 7, 4/12 (33.3%) dogs tested positive for Giardia cysts in the Group A and 5/12 (41.7%) in the Group B. Efficacies at (Days 7, 14, 21, and 50) of the treatments against Giardia infection were 80.9, 94, 100, and 97% in the Group A and 70.8, 99, 100, and 97.1% in the Group B. Statistically significant differences were not observed between the efficacy of Fenbendazole and Metronidazole against infection by G. duodenalis (P = 0.686). Molecular analysis revealed full homology (i.e., 100% with JN416550) with the canine specific assemblage D in six positive dogs. Different hypotheses might explain the re-appearance of the Giardia cysts in some dogs after treatment, e.g., re-infection from the home environment, the correct medication given by the owners, the diet, as well as treatment failure, but also biological issues related to the intermittent excretion of Giardia cysts.

Optical-reflex treatment of patients with myopia and computer visual syndrome with a concomitant asthenic form of accommodation asthenopia seems relevant and not fully developed. The basic provisions that determine the tactics of treatment are monocular exposure in order to increase the absolute accommodation rate and staging (outpatient room, home conditions) of training. Measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of optical reflex treatment at home include the development of alternative instrumentation with reasonable (in accordance with the clinical and physiological characteristics of the functioning of the ciliary muscle of the eye) optical, amplitude and temporal parameters of the training process.

The article reflects the assessment of the quality of sour cream at home, and considers methods for determining the quality of sour cream. Organoleptic evaluation was performed for compliance with the requirements of GOST 52092-2003 " Smetana. Technical conditions " in terms of appearance, consistency, color, taste and smell. The consistency of sour cream is determined during its mixing, while evaluating the presence of a glossy appearance of sour cream. Sour cream is considered thick if it slowly drains from the whorl. The smell is determined immediately after mixing. Then we evaluate the taste. When evaluating the quality of the samples under study, it was found that the organoleptic characteristics of the samples fully comply with the requirements of the regulatory document. Analyzing the results of the experiment, we can conclude that in the first experiment, the sour cream purchased on the market was completely dissolved, and the sour cream from the store after dissolution showed small grains. And in the second experiment, the results showed that the color did not change in the sample # 2, but under # 1 it turned blue. The basis of this experiment is a qualitative chemical reaction to starch, which is used as a thickener.
