Corrosion is one of the main causes of early failure of infrastructure both for public housing facilities and public facilities in downtown Langsa. This corrosion is caused by air pollution generated from motor vehicle and household industry exhaust fumes and exhaust smoke from the nearest palm oil mill industry from the city of Langsa. Related to air pollution, its sustainability should be a concern regarding environmental impacts that occur, one of which is atmospheric corrosion. This study aims to analyze the impact of the effects of pollution on infrastructure corrosion on construction steel which is often used on infrastructure in the city of Langsa and the palm oil mill industry. There are five types of steel model infrastructure consisting of strips of plate steel, elbow steel, cylinder steel, plate steel, and low carbon steel market have become specimens. Calculation of corrosion rate using the method of mass loss by reference to ASTM standard G50, the location selected above buildings in downtown Langsa and palm oil mill industry. The results of the study for one year showed the level of corrosion rate that occurred in 5 types of steel construction is still relatively safe or its relative corrosion resistance can be classified in the outstanding category (<1 mil per year). The conclusion is that 5 types of construction steel that have been tested, are resistant to corrosion, and are suitable for use as the main construction material in Langsa City and the palm oil mill industrial environment.

Fire resistance and seismic performance are the two of the most important considerations for the design of construction steel. The fire resistance of the high-strength construction steel, Q460FRE, which contains low Mo, was investigated by means of creep test under different experiment conditions. Then, the seismic performance of the Q460FRE steel, after being subjected to various fire temperatures, was characterized by internal friction analysis. The Q460FRE steel exhibited excellent fire resistance, and the yield strength at 600 °C was 67.4% of the yield strength at room temperature. The constitutive equation of creep stress and fracture time at 600 °C was established. The bearing tensile stress of the Q460FRE steel should be lower than 337 MPa to ensure at least 1 hour to evacuate from the fire. The creep stress and alternating temperature significantly affected the serration behavior of the creep strain. The internal friction analysis indicated that the seismic performance of the Q460FRE steel decreased with the increase in fire temperature, being consistent with the analysis results of the seismic performance characterized by the yield ratio.

An experimental investigation was conducted to study the fretting wear behavior of low alloyed construction steel in the tempered fully martensitic state. The resulting damage mechanism and the resistance to fretting wear of martensitic steels subjected to different tempering temperature was evaluated and compared with the virgin (un-tempered) martensitic steel under the different loading conditions. The results show that the friction coefficient increases with the increase of the tempering temperature for all the applied loads. The fretting wear resistance mainly depends on the tempering temperature. Compared to the virgin (un-tempered) full martensite, most of the tempered martensites have better fretting wear resistance, in which the tempered martensitic (TM) steel of [Formula: see text] due to a good balance of strength and ductility has a super fretting wear resistance for all loading conditions. In addition, the correlation of fretting wear resistance with the initial hardness was discussed.
