Background: Horses are herd animals that have been domesticated in the last century. In several countries, an overview of risk factors and clinical evaluation in horses with colic has not been well‐described. This study aimed to evaluate risk factors and hematological profiles in horses associated with colic in Gresik, East Java, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed during April - October 2019. A total of 115 horses were diagnosed based on physical examination, clinical symptoms, and rectal examination. A questionnaire was asked to the horse-owners to analyze the risk factors while the clinical examination was performed and blood samples were collected for pre-treatment and 14 days post-treatment. Hematological profile was evaluated from a whole blood sample. Serum cortisol, plasma epinephrine, and norepinephrine concentrations were also evaluated after separating the aliquots.  Results: Of the 115 horses, 96 were diagnosed with colic. The horses with colic showed a significant association between cases with gender (p<0.021), breed (p<0.000), wheat bran feeding (p<0.015), concentrate feeding (p<0.003), anthelmintics administration (p<0.000), gastrointestinal parasites (p<0.000), dental diseases (p<0.024), previous exposure to colic (p<0.000), body condition score (p<0.000), and access to water per day (p<0.000). Based on whole blood and serum evaluation, there were ameliorated significantly on the hematological profile (p<0.01), serum cortisol (p<0.05), and plasma epinephrine (p<0.01) at 14 days post-treatment. Conclusion: This study has identified factors associated with colic in Delman horses. The study provides crucial information to investigate cases of colic and to contribute the development of healthcare strategies during treatment and clinical evaluation.

Abstract The research is devoted to the study of the influence of the modern antioxidant of the flavonoid group ‘Dihydroquercetin’ as part of the feed combination on the hematological profile and biochemical parameters of the blood of broiler chickens of the KOBB-500 cross. The content of hemoglobin and erythrocytes in the blood of broilers receiving dihydroquercetin increased, which indicates an increase in the intensity of redox processes in the body. The number of leukocytes in all groups was normal, but in the experimental groups their decrease was noted, which indicates the therapeutic and immunostimulating effect of the drug. Evaluation of protein metabolism by the content of total protein and the fraction of albumin in the blood serum showed its positive dynamics within the normal physiological values, which characterizes an increase in the intensity of assimilation processes in the bird’s body. The metabolism of carbohydrates was assessed by the content of glucose in it, and a decrease in its level indicates its increased consumption as an energy component for metabolic processes associated with intensive growth of chickens. An increase in the activity of alkaline phosphatase by 1.3-1.8 times is associated with the active growth of chickens.

Background: Contamination of freshwater ecosystems has become a major issue as it threatens public water sources as well as aquatic life. It is important to predict changes in organism health, given a known number of environmental factors and pollutant concentrations, in order to better manage contaminants through biomarker analysis. This study aims to examine the ecosystem health of the Brantas River based on its environmental condition and the hematology profile of Gambusia affinis fish present in the river. This species was chosen because of its wide distribution along the Brantas River, and because it is very tolerant, adaptable, highly abundant, and easy to catch. Methods: The study area included 10 sampling sites along the Brantas River watershed. In total, six water quality parameters were observed (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD), ammonia concentration, and phenol concentration) and hematology measurements consisted of erythrocyte, leucocyte, and micronuclei analyses. Results: The results showed that the upstream area of Brantas River, located in Batu, was the least polluted region, while Mojokerto was the most polluted. The erythrocyte level of Gambusia affinis caught in most sampling sites was quite low. Furthermore, research revealed that the status of Gambusia affinis' hematological profile was significantly correlated (p<0.05) with water quality parameters, particularly DO, BOD, ammonia, and phenol. Conclusions: It can be concluded from these results that the hematological profile of the fish is poor due to high levels of organic waste and harmful substances.

Abstract Anthropogenic activities along watershed area are often causing river pollution. This will affect the sustainability of aquatic resources, such as fish. One of the fish species in Brantas River that can be employed as bioindicator of water pollution is Wader fish (Puntius, sp.). The aim of this research was to analyze the health of Wader fish based on tits hematological profile. This study utilized descriptive method and conducted in three sites of Brantas River that located in Malang city, Indonesia. We took water quality parameters data to obtain Pollution Index of the river and blood samples to evaluate the hematological profile of wader fish caught in research area. Further analysis to evaluate relationship between water quality factors and hematological profile of Wader fish was performed by using Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) with the support of PAST software version 4.06. The results showed that pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), ammonia and total suspended solid (TSS) of the study area were within the normal range, while the biological oxygen demand (BOD) value was above the standard. In addition, Pollution Index of this research suggested that Brantas River condition was low polluted. Meanwhile, the analysis of hematological profile of wader fish in terms of erythrocytes and hemoglobin were below than the recommended value, leukocytes were normal, and micronuclei were above the standard.

Pre-eclampsia is a significant cause of maternal, fetal, and neonatal morbidities and mortalities associated with pregnancy. We aimed at examining the impact of maternal pre-eclampsia on new-borns’ and Mother’s hematological profile. OBJECTIVE: To study the hematological profile in mothers suffering from pre-eclampsia. To study the hematological profile in neonates. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The present cross-sectional study includes 100 pregnant womens and 100 neonates were included in the study and were grouped as under. Group 1: 50 normal pregnant womens. Group II: 50 Normal Neonates of mothers having normal pregnancy Group III: 50 pregnant mothers with gestational age between 32 and 36 weeks with preeclampsia. Group IV: 50 Neonates of mothers having pre-eclampsia. RESULT: Comparatively lower platelet count in preeclamptic women as compared to normal pregnant women. Also, total leucocyte count was relatively on lower side. Neutrophils and monocytes were raised in preeclamptic women when compared with normal pregnant women. Rest of all the parameters were not significantly affected. Clearly shows that in case of new-borns of mothers who are preeclamptic, haemoglobin and red blood cell count were significantly lowered. But platelet counts and total lymphocyte count was raised when compared with new-borns of normal pregnant women. CONCLUSION: Positive correlation between preeclampsia and neonatal thrombocytopenia. Prematurity, insufficiency of the placenta and fetal development restriction and need for neonatal resuscitation in babies born to pre-eclamptic women were found to be substantially higher compared to those born to stable normotensive people.
