It is generally believed that assessment has important impact on instruction and learning (Gibbs, 1999; Scouller, 1998). The existence of gaps between educational system and the real world of work cause to materialize e-assessment as an essential component of teaching contexts. In fact, virtual and practical e- assessment provides feedbacks for students to meet what they need for regulation of good performance in the authentic environments. The expansion of virtual e-assessment is one of the controversial issues among training administrators to generate valid and reliable assessments results in higher education contexts by undertaking purposes such as providing a basis for evaluating the quality of instructional context and serving feedback loops for learners by associating themselves in self-assessment to actualize their desires. In the same line, the present paper has an attempt to discuss a conceptual framework for implementation of reliable and valid e-assessment in web-based courses by highlighting viewpoints of different scholars with regard to the role of e-assessment as an integral part of teaching and learning process.

This chapter describes the implementation of the WorldCat®1 Local discovery tool in a multiple-library system at a mid-sized university. The catalog data preparation required for implementation is a key focus, including discussion of the use of the OCLC holdings reclamation process. Special circumstances and limitations regarding government documents records are described. The challenge that WorldCat® Local’s architecture presents for a library system with multiple processing units is explained. Additional concepts discussed are the decisions regarding configuration and presentation on the Library’s Web interface, the challenges faced by librarians and staff, and the impact on instruction and reference. Comparisons between the number of searches in the traditional library catalog and WorldCat® Local are presented as well as interlibrary loan requests statistics pre and post implementation. Various difficulties encountered and the applied solutions are explained and discussed as well as ongoing challenges and issues.

Informal logic began in the 1970s as a critique of then-current theoretical assumptions in the teaching of argument analysis and evaluation in philosophy departments in the U.S. and Canada. The last 35 years have seen significant developments in informal logic and critical thinking theory. The paper is a pilot study of the influence of these advances in theory on what is taught in courses on argument analysis and critical thinking in U.S. and Canadian philosophy departments. Its finding, provisional and much-qualified, is that the theoretical developments and refinements have had limited impact on instruction in leading philosophy departments.

The delivery of instruction within education is going through a process of change at the presrnt time. One development that has had an impact on instruction delivery is interactive distance education. There are however, questions that need to be answered concerning the different components which are a part of this form of distance education. One such component relates to the attitudes of students who are receiving instruction through interactive distance education. It was the purpose of this study to ascertain student attitudes as they related to the different aspects of taking a course in this type of educational environment.

The revolutionary growth of information technology is creating new national issues and is affecting higher education's approach to computing. A study sponsored by the National Science Foundation is identifying the current policies and future needs in educational computing in order to present recommendations for dealing with the issues at the national level. Responses from a nationwide survey have helped to identify the major issues and to suggest some goals for higher education. These responses will be used in recommending possible programs for action. The continuing developments in microcomputers will greatly increase the already rapid diffusion of computing in education. We are entering a new stage in the use of computers in which there will be a much larger impact on instruction and administrative support. Since this diffusion is characterized by the kinds of technology available, as well as by educational structures, developments in educational computing will result from the interaction of those in government, industry, and education.
