Discourse on pivotal current issues through and in education is the best approach to promote civic engagement and meaningful political participation among the youth. In this paper, the benefits of civic education empowerment from among Grade 12 students of Sablan National High School was explored. The essence of civic education empowerment has three main goals: political knowledge and understanding, democratic attitudes, and a readiness for democratic political action. Schools play an important role in catalyzing increased civic engagement; they can do this by enabling the youth to develop and practice the knowledge, beliefs, and behaviours needed to participate in civic life. The ripple effect of civic education empowerment is manifested in the relevant learning experiences obtained by the participants in terms of their civic knowledge and civic skills. As to how these civic knowledge and civic skills enhance their civic dispositions and participation, it is evident that participant-respondents assimilated the necessary civic knowledge for an informed choice which reflects their civic dispositions in the formulation of their standards for suffrage. Civic knowledge, civic skills, and civic dispositions and participation constitute the core elements of an informed and active citizenship.

The ultimate desire of any sensitive government is to build responsible citizens who will participate meaningfully in the developmental efforts within and outside society. The current social-political upheavals in Ghana and Nigeria underscored the need for national value orientation and reorientation for effective nation-building. The study adopted a descriptive survey to assess gender differences in pupils’ civic disposition in Ghana and Nigeria. A multistage sampling procedure was used to select 920 Basic 8 pupils from four educational circuits in Central Region, Ghana and four Local Government Education Authorities in Lagos and Ogun State in South-West, Nigeria. The research tool was tagged: Basic Education Pupils’ Questionnaire (BEPQ). The data were analysed using simple percentages, mean scores and independent t-tests at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that there is no significant gender difference in the contribution of basic education to pupils’ civic disposition.  The main conclusion drawn from this study is that the difference in the level of civic awareness of basic school pupils is due to the quality of basic education and that civic disposition increases the likelihood of a person engaging in civic activities. Government at all levels should encourage publication of relevant textbooks and research findings on basic school pupils especially in value-laden subjects like civic education.

Artinya, variabel pemahaman dan sensitivitas gender berpengaruh pada civic disposition, setiap perubahan pada kedua variabel bebas akan mempengaruhi pada civic disposition sebesar 77,3%.[Textual and contextual studies in the society keep showing that there are inequalities in gender roles, for example in some of the Muslim societies, they think that women are inferior to men because of inappropriate interpretations of the Koran and Hadith. Understanding gender principles are obtained by humans at all ages and also from the various environments in which they interact. Adolescence is an important age level in the process of forming a gender principle. This research aims to understand the influences: (1) the gender understanding toward civic disposition; (2) the gender sensitivity toward civic disposition; and (3) the gender understanding and gender sensitivity toward civic disposition of the Madrasah Aliyah’s students in Bantul Regency. The research uses the quantitative approach and random sampling technique. The instruments of data collecting are gender awareness scale (GAS), gender sensitivity scale (GSS) and civic disposition scale (CDS). The validity test uses the construct and content’s validity, while to measure the internal consistency of the GAS uses the biserial point on GSS and CDS because it measures noncognitive structures by calculating the power of discrimination through an r-product moment. The GAS reliability is calculated by using KR-20 while that of the GSS and DCS use Alpha Cronbach. The results of the reliability measurement show that 0.524 for GAS, 0.756 for GSS and 0.882 for CDS. The prerequisite test is executed by measuring the normality distribution using Kolmogorov-Smirnov analysis and homogeneity test of Levene, while the linearity test was calculated through the F-regression value. The hypothesis test uses the data of simple regression and double regression. The results of this research are: (1) Understanding of gender affects civic disposition. (2) Gender sensitivity affects civic disposition. (3) Understanding gender and gender sensitivity at the same time affect civic disposition. Therefore, it could be concluded that both gender understanding and gender sensitivity can affect civic disposition.]
