AbstractWe study the one-dimensional discrete time totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with parallel update rules on a spatially periodic domain. A multi-point space-time joint distribution formula is obtained for general initial conditions. The formula involves contour integrals of Fredholm determinants with kernels acting on certain discrete spaces. For a class of initial conditions satisfying certain technical assumptions, we are able to derive large-time, large-period limit of the joint distribution, under the relaxation time scale $$t=O(L^{3/2})$$ t = O ( L 3 / 2 ) when the height fluctuations are critically affected by the finite geometry. The assumptions are verified for the step and flat initial conditions. As a corollary we obtain the multi-point distribution of discrete time TASEP on the whole integer lattice $${\mathbb {Z}}$$ Z by taking the period L large enough so that the finite-time distribution is not affected by the boundary. The large time limit for the multi-time distribution of discrete time TASEP on $${\mathbb {Z}}$$ Z is then obtained for the step initial condition.

AbstractThis paper studies the mixing behavior of the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (ASEP) on a segment of length N. Our main result is that for particle densities in (0, 1),  the total-variation cutoff window of ASEP is $$N^{1/3}$$ N 1 / 3 and the cutoff profile is $$1-F_{\mathrm {GUE}},$$ 1 - F GUE , where $$F_{\mathrm {GUE}}$$ F GUE is the Tracy-Widom distribution function. This also gives a new proof of the cutoff itself, shown earlier by Labbé and Lacoin. Our proof combines coupling arguments, the result of Tracy–Widom about fluctuations of ASEP started from the step initial condition, and exact algebraic identities coming from interpreting the multi-species ASEP as a random walk on a Hecke algebra.

Background: Studies have shown that there are deviations in the results of peripheral blood counts, which lead to increased values of the neutrophils-to-lymphocytes ratio (NLR) in schizophrenia. Antipsychotic drugs have proven to lower the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and a growing number of studies indicate a similar effect on NLR values. Methods: We identified inpatients with schizophrenia and collected data of NLR at the beginning (NLR1) and end (NLR2) of hospitalization, the status of antipsychotic medication on admission and potential confounding factors. In the statistical analysis, we applied a linear mixed model. Results: After the inclusion and exclusion process the records of 40 patients (np = 40) and 71 hospitalizations (nh = 71) were analyzed. We found that in the group of antipsychotics-naive patients, the NLR1 were significantly higher than the NLR2 values. Such a difference did not occur in the case of non-antipsychotics-naïve patients. Age and the diagnosis of hypothyroidism influenced the value of change in NLR from the beginning to the end of hospitalization in a given patient (ΔNLR). Conclusions: The study confirmed the lowering effect of antipsychotics on NLR values in psychosis. The NLR may potentially be a tool for assessing response to treatment with antipsychotics.

We study the question of periodic homogenization of a variably scaled reaction-diffusion problem with non-linear drift posed for a domain crossed by a flat composite thin layer. The structure of the non-linearity in the drift was obtained in earlier works as hydrodynamic limit of a totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) for a population of interacting particles crossing a domain with obstacle. Using energy-type estimates as well as concepts like thin-layer convergence and two-scale convergence, we derive the homogenized evolution equation and the corresponding effective model parameters for a regularized problem. Special attention is paid to the derivation of the effective transmission conditions across the separating limit interface in essentially two different situations: (i) finitely thin layer and (ii) infinitely thin layer. This study should be seen as a preliminary step needed for the investigation of averaging fast non-linear drifts across material interfaces—a topic with direct applications in the design of thin composite materials meant to be impenetrable to high-velocity impacts.

Abstract Let $W$ be a finite Weyl group and $\widetilde W$ the corresponding affine Weyl group. A random element of $\widetilde W$ can be obtained as a reduced random walk on the alcoves of $\widetilde W$. By a theorem of Lam (Ann. Prob. 2015), such a walk almost surely approaches one of $|W|$ many directions. We compute these directions when $W$ is $B_n$, $C_n$, and $D_n$ and the random walk is weighted by Kac and dual Kac labels. This settles Lam’s questions for types $B$ and $C$ in the affirmative and for type $D$ in the negative. The main tool is a combinatorial two row model for a totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) called the $D^*$-TASEP, with four parameters. By specializing the parameters in different ways, we obtain TASEPs for each of the Weyl groups mentioned above. Computing certain correlations in these TASEPs gives the desired limiting directions.

One of the interesting themes but not widely featured in Indonesian and French literatures in the 19th and 20th centuries is nyai and demi-mondaine. Both have a similar meaning, namely the mistress of a man from the upper-middle class. This study looks at the exclusions that occur in the lives of nyai and demi-mondaine in an Indonesian novel titled Bumi Manusia by Pramoedya Ananta Toer and a French novel titled La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas (philosophers). The analysis was carried out using Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis approach to examine the exclusion process in the two novels, which describes the realities that occur in society. This study found that the mistresses are excluded primarily through labeling and stereotyping. Despite the exclusion from the discourse of ‘honor’ in society, the mistresses find their own way of surviving in a society that does not like them.

Introduction. Awareness about the spread of hoaxes through the media during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia should be the main concern for everybody. Data Collection Methods. This paper used a systematic literature review method with a qualitative approach, using the literature which focuses on the spread of hoaxes through the media during the COVID-19 pandemic from Google Scholar, Garuda RistekBRIN, and Research Gate. The exclusion process resulted in 20 scientific papers for further analysis. Data Analysis. Data analysis was conducted manual using graphs and tables to systematize the most relevant information to the research topic. Results and Discussion. Three research questions were answered, including the quantity of publications regarding the spread of hoaxes through media during the pandemic in Indonesia, the focus of the researches, and the methodology used in the study. Based on the findings, 20 scientific papers were obtained, with minor topics including the identification of hoax news about COVID-19 on social media, information behavior on social media during the COVID-19 pandemic, and strategies dealing with the spread of hoaxes during the pandemic. Conclusion. There are many papers discussing the spread of hoaxes through the media during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia and this needs sufficient attention.
