In this work, Bohr Hamiltonian is used to explain the behavior of triaxial nuclei. A new potential, called Morse plus screened Kratzer potential, has been developed for the [Formula: see text]-part with [Formula: see text] fixed at [Formula: see text]. The Extended Nikiforov–Uvarov method involving Confluent Heun functions is used to derive the wave function and energy expression. The electric quadrupole transition rates and energy spectrum of platinum [Formula: see text] are determined and compared with the experimental data and some theoretical results.

In current study ,92Nb and 92Mo isotopes have been determined for calculating energy levels and electric quadrupole transition probabilities. Two interaction have been applied in this study are surface delta and modified surface delta interactions. The calculations have been achieved by using appropriate effective charges for proton and neutron as well as parameter length of harmonic potential. Computed results have been compared with the experimental values. After this comparison, energy and the transition probability values have a good agreement with the experimental values, also there are values of the total angular momentum and parity are determined and confirmed for some of the experimental energies, undetermined and unconfirmed experimentally. Theoretically, new values of quadrupole electric transition probabilities have been explored which have not been known in the experimental data.

Bound states in the continuum (BICs) correspond to a particular leaky mode with an infinitely large quality-factor (Q-factor) located within the continuum spectrum. To date, most of the research work reported focuses on the BIC-enhanced light matter interaction due to its extreme near-field confinement. Little attention has been paid to the scattering properties of the BIC mode. In this work, we numerically study the far-field radiation manipulation of BICs by exploring multipole interference. By simply breaking the symmetry of the silicon metasurface, an ideal BIC is converted to a quasi-BIC with a finite Q-factor, which is manifested by the Fano resonance in the transmission spectrum. We found that both the intensity and directionality of the far-field radiation pattern can not only be tuned by the asymmetric parameters but can also experience huge changes around the resonance. Even for the same structure, two quasi-BICs show a different radiation pattern evolution when the asymmetric structure parameter d increases. It can be found that far-field radiation from one BIC evolves from electric-quadrupole-dominant radiation to toroidal-dipole-dominant radiation, whereas the other one shows electric-dipole-like radiation due to the interference of the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole with the increasing asymmetric parameters. The result may find applications in high-directionality nonlinear optical devices and semiconductor lasers by using a quasi-BIC-based metasurface.

In the present paper, the generalization of the optical theorem to the case of a penetrable particle deposited near a transparent substrate that is excited by a multipole of an arbitrary order and polarization has been derived. In the derivation we employ classic Maxwell’s theory, Gauss’s theorem, and use a special representation for the multipole excitation. It has been shown that the extinction cross-section can be evaluated by the calculation of some specific derivatives from the scattered field at the position of the multipole location, in addition to some finite integrals which account for the multipole polarization and the presence of the substrate. Finally, the present paper considers some specific examples for the excitation of a particle by an electric quadrupole.

David Buckingham was a chemical physicist and theoretical chemist who made fundamental contributions to the understanding of optical, electric and magnetic properties of molecules. Born in Australia, he was an undergraduate at the University of Sydney and the first PhD research student of John Pople (FRS 1961) at Cambridge, and there he made significant advances in the theory of intermolecular forces and nonlinear optics. He then moved to Oxford, where he and his group performed the first direct measurement of a molecular electric quadrupole moment. He was elected to the first chair of theoretical chemistry at the University of Bristol, where he wrote a particularly influential article on molecular moments, higher-order polarizabilities and intermolecular forces. His next appointment was at the University of Cambridge as the first holder of the 1968 Chair of Chemistry, and he was head of a distinguished department of theoretical chemistry for 28 years. With colleagues he pioneered experiment and theory on vibrational optical activity and developed a powerful model to predict the structures of weakly-bound molecules. A man of broad interests and achievements, he played first class cricket in the 1950s.

AbstractMössbauer measurements on single crystal absorbers at room and at low temperatures were performed. The results are fully consistent with previously published reports by other groups. Spectra of single crystals were simultaneously analyzed including magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole interactions. The analysis shows that there is a small component of magnetic moments perpendicular to the magnetic easy axis. Mössbauer data seem not agree with commonly accepted ferrimagnetic structure of GaFeO3.
