Abstract Appreciative dietary desires and fabrication of fish nourishment is vital to the progress, sustainability of aquaculture and for the advanced feed mill rehearsal. Organizing fish feed includes choosing the exact feed, using an acceptable feeding technique, work out the feed charge and ensuring the cost efficiency of fish farm. The purpose of our present study was to feed the fishes with four different feeds and assessment of growth performance by length weight relationships. The growth analysis was executed by measuring FCR and related indices in gift tilapia oreochromis niloticus. Four feed composition was selected without any chemical contamination. In the present study fishes were collected from the golden farm, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram district, South India. Fishes were introduced into four different tanks of well oxygenated good quality water. In each experimental tank, 20 fishes were introduced. For each experimental container a specific feed was fixed from 4 different diets. Every day feed was given to the fishes. They were fed two times for the period of 3 months. They were maintained to assess their growth performance. Four types of feeds used for the present study were control diet, diet 1, diet 2 and diet 3. Length and weight were measured on every 15 days interval for growth estimation. Based on the length-weight data, growth analysis was carried out by calculating relative growth (RG), relative growth rate (RGR), specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and the Fulton’s condition factor. The results of mean length in diet3proved the highest length of 6.455±0.46cm and diet one contain lowest length of 5.03±0.68cm. Highest weight of 96.8 ± 0.37g was recorded in diet3 and lowest weight obtained for the control diet (3.645 ± 0.306 g). In growth analysis the relative growth of fish was estimated in diet 3 having high relative growth (11.91). Relative growth rate was elevated in diet 3(1.5597). The upper limit of specific growth rate was 1.9146% noticed in diet 3. The feed conversion ratio was maximum in diet 3 (58.06) and minimum in control diet (36). The highest k value in Fulton's condition factor was noticed in diet 3(88.32).All experimental results proved that live Azolla [D3] was a superior feed for the present trials.

Background: Biofloc technology (BFT) is an ecofriendly aquaculture production system. In this, various carbon sources being used for floc production. However, the cheapest carbon source would make it economically feasible. In this context, the present study used purified distillery spent wash (DSW) as a carbon source to evaluate its viability on biofloc composition and carcass quality of GIFT strain. Methods: Nursery trial was conducted in high density poly ethylene (HDPE) outdoor lined pond (0.01 ha) for period of 30 days (8th January to 7th February 2018). In both BFT and control system, proximate composition and fatty acid profile of GIFT tilapia were analyzed at the end of the trial by following the standard method. Result: Dried microbial floc encompassed 16.61 ± 1.2% of crude protein and 15.3 ± 0.01% of linoleic acid. The Whole-body composition of GIFT was not significantly (P greater than 0.05) varied in between biofloc and control. Significantly (P less than 0.05) rich fatty acids found in biofloc fed GIFT whole body except stearic acid, behenic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. In the present study, DSW did not show much effect on carcass quality but showed better growth performance of GIFT strain in the BFT system.

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) strain of Sultana (superior selection of salabintana) is a new variety developed by the Center for Freshwater Resources Development (BBPABT) Sukabumi, West Java. Sultana tilapia is the result of crossing 10 superior varieties such as gift tilapia, jica, white, and other superior tilapia. Many factors cause the high price of feed, one of which is dependent on imported raw materials for feed manufacture. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the use of local raw materials with different protein content in feed for the growth of tilapia and reduce production costs by using local raw materials as feed ingredients. This research was conducted from March 21 to June 19, 2020 at the Integrated Field Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of four treatments with three replications. The treatments given included 30% protein treatment (A), 33% protein treatment (B), 36% treatment (C), and commercial feed control (D) for 60 days of maintenance. The data obtained were analyzed by using the ANOVA test and followed by the Duncan test. The results obtained in this study are that treatment B has the best FCR value and is significantly different compared to other treatments so as to produce the best growth. Besides that, treatment A and C also had a significantly different FCR value compared to the control

GIFT Tilapia a fast growing fish and candidate species used for short term profitable fish farming. The farm level adoption of GIFT Tilapia farming technology has not increased significantly, given its relative advantage over the carps such as easily grown in wide range of water quality parameters, better growth in higher stocking densities and short period for weight gain. Therefore, the study attempts to analyse the perception about GIFT Tilapia Farming among the Fish Farmers and Prospective fish Farmers in order to arrive at conclusions for better adoption of GIFT Tilapia farming technology. Simple random sampling was used for selecting the sample and the total sample size is 82 (44 Fish farmers and 38 Prospective fish farmers, that is, Non-fish farmers with knowledge about fish farming). The data collection was done through focussed group discussions and structured interview schedule. The statements are ranked based on ‘The Cumulative Perception Index’ calculated for each statement. The results show that the respondents perceive strongly that “GIFT Tilapia is one of the best cultivable species” and “it has more profit compared to carp culture”. The perception is highly negative to the statement that “GIFT tilapia culture technology is complex” however 63% of the respondents were sceptical about “the marketing of GIFT Tilapia”. From the results it is found that, in order to improve the adoption of GIFT Tilapia Farming technology, it is necessary to make the fish farmers informed about the guidelines to farming GIFT Tilapia, enabling availability and accessibility of GIFT Tilapia seeds and making them aware of marketability and innovative marketing strategies of GIFT Tilapia. This can perk up dissemination and adoption of GIFT Tilapia farming technology.
