Abstract After two years of development, the GAIA Explorer is now ready to assist Geoscientists at Total! This knowledge platform works like a little Google, but with a focus solely on Geosciences - for the time being. The main goal of the GAIA Explorer is to save time finding the right information. Therefore, it is particularly useful for datarooms or after business acquisitions to quickly digest the knowledge, but also for feeding databases, exploration syntheses, reservoir studies, or even staff onboarding specially when remote working. With this additional time, Geoscientists can focus on tasks with added value, such as to synthesize, find analogies or propose alternative scenarios. This new companion automatically organizes and extracts knowledge from a large number of unstructured technical documents by using Machine Learning (ML). All the models relie on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and have been trained on our own datasets, which cover main petroleum domains such as geosciences and operations. First, the layout of more than 75,000 document pages were analyzed for training a segmentation model, which extracts three types of content (text, images and tables). Secondly, the text content extracted from about 6,500 documents labelled amongst 30 classes was used to train a model for document classification. Thirdly, more than 55,000 images were categorized amongst 45 classes to customize a model of image classification covering a large panel of figures such as maps, logs, seismic sections, or core pictures. Finally, all the terms (n-grams) extracted from objects are compared with an inhouse thesaurus to automatically tag related topics such as basin, field, geological formation, acquisition, measure. All these elementary bricks are connected and used for feeding a knowledge database that can be quickly and exhaustively searched. Today, the GAIA Explorer searches within texts, images and tables from a corpus (document collection), which can be made up of both technical and operational reports, meeting presentations and academic publications. By combining queries (keywords or natural language) with a large array of filters (by classes and topics), the outcomes are easily refined and exploitable. Since the release of a production version in February 2021 at Total, about 180 users for 30 projects regularly use the tool for exploration and development purposes. This first version is following a continuous training cycle including active learning and, preliminary user feedback is good and admits that some information would have been difficult to locate without the GAIA Explorer. In the future, the GAIA Explorer could be significantly improved by implementing knowledge graph based on an ontology dedicated specific to petroleum domains. Along with the help of Specialists in related activities such as drilling, project or contract, the tool could cover the complete range of upstream topics and be useful for other business with time.

AbstractJATSdecoder is a general toolbox which facilitates text extraction and analytical tasks on NISO-JATS coded XML documents. Its function JATSdecoder() outputs metadata, the abstract, the sectioned text and reference list as easy selectable elements. One of the biggest repositories for open access full texts covering biology and the medical and health sciences is PubMed Central (PMC), with more than 3.2 million files. This report provides an overview of the PMC document collection processed with JATSdecoder(). The development of extracted tags is displayed for the full corpus over time and in greater detail for some meta tags. Possibilities and limitations for text miners working with scientific literature are outlined. The NISO-JATS-tags are used quite consistently nowadays and allow a reliable extraction of metadata and text elements. International collaborations are more present than ever. There are obvious errors in the date stamps of some documents. Only about half of all articles from 2020 contain at least one author listed with an author identification code. Since many authors share the same name, the identification of person-related content is problematic, especially for authors with Asian names. JATSdecoder() reliably extracts key metadata and text elements from NISO-JATS coded XML files. When combined with the rich, publicly available content within PMCs database, new monitoring and text mining approaches can be carried out easily. Any selection of article subsets should be carefully performed with in- and exclusion criteria on several NISO-JATS tags, as both the subject and keyword tags are used quite inconsistently.

Many college and universities in the United States provide physical activity courses (PAC) for students to earn credit toward graduation. Institutions vary in PACs, as physical activity programs are affected by administrative goals and needs. Although PACs can vary by institution, it is important to examine how PACs can contemporarily address the cultural changes in education and physical activity. This study employed a case study research design and investigated the lived experiences of eight graduate teaching assistants working as PAC instructors at one university. Interview, observational, document collection, and technology journal data were collected throughout a 16-week semester. An interpretative phenomenological analysis of multiple variables, attitudes and beliefs, and pedagogical implementations resulted in four recurrent themes regarding the use of digital media in PACs: (a) experimenting with student engagement, (b) finding meaningful resources, (c) learning Canvas, and (d) valuing video and audio media. This article also provides future considerations around digital resources and professional development opportunities. Subscribe to TPE

The upgrade project for the Electronic Library of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is discussed. The goal is to provide remote access to its digital content, to expand and develop library information services in the digital environment. The e-library enables to improve library services of the republican population and to raise the profile of the library in the modern technological world. The elibrary’s new services emerge at the synthesis of new information technologies (implementation tool) and new approaches to traditional library and bibliographic processes. The user-group oriented segments were designed ("School", "Reading since very birth", "Science in Yakutia", "Electronic publishing house") which enables to meet information demands to the fullest extent possible. The options for using personal accounts, statistical performance indicators, e-library document collection, resources selection and systematization, and grouping methods are characterized in brief. The search instrument makes an important performance indicator; it can be used for every segment and collection and is locked to descriptive metadata fields for all types of resources (formats). The concept of creating Single Library and Information Environment based on the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) provides the organizational and technological prospects for the e-Library.

The family Nikolić of Rudna was one of the most important families of Serbian descent from Hungary. The history of this noble family is largely unknown, as it didn’t receive much attention in the historiography. The present document was written by a member of the Nikolić family and addressed to the adopted son of baron Mihajlo Nikolić, Jovan Tirfelder. The document is an excellent information source about the history of the family. The document was written in German in the first decades of the 20th century. It comprises six pages and nowadays it is preserved, in a good state of conservation, in the document collection of the History department of the National Museum of Banat from Timișoara. The document comprises five short chapters: 1. General data about the Serbians in Hungar, 2. Sources about the history of our family, 3. The name of our family and its notation, 4. The history of our family end 5. Remarks regarding the use of the genealogical charts. The original documents regarding the history of the family before 1848 were lost during a fire, which occurred in Rudna during the 1848-1849 revolution. That is why it was necessary to use other sources in order to write the present document: e.g.: National Archives of Hungary in Budapest or the Archives of the Timiș County. A short history of the family, which contains previously unpublished aspects, constitutes the most significant part of this document and of the present article. Another part of the article is dedicated to the baron Fedor Nikolić of Rudna. He was the most important member of the family and a notability in Banat in the second half of the XIXth century. As a deputy, he represented various districts of Banat in the Hungarian parliament. He had an important position in the governing body of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1882-1886). Additionally he led several associations and commercial companies from Banat and Hungary and received various titles and medals.
