Abstract BackgroundFor smokers not intending to quit, switching to a reduced-risk nicotine product should be healthier than continuing smoking. We estimate the health impact, over the period 2000-2050, of introducing into the US the nicotine pouch ZYN. ZYN’s toxicant profile and method of use is like that for Swedish snus, a product with known health effects much less than smoking. MethodsOur modelling approach is similar to others developed for estimating potential effects of new tobacco products. It starts with a simulated cohort of 100,000 individuals in the year 2000 subdivided by age, sex, and smoking status (including years since quitting). They are followed annually accounting for births, net immigrations, deaths and product use changes, with follow-up carried out in the Base Case (ZYN not introduced) and Modified Case (ZYN introduced). Using informed assumptions about initiation, quitting and switching rates, distributions of the population over time are then constructed for each Case, which are used to estimate product-related mortality based on assumptions about the relative risk according to product use. ResultsWhereas in both Base and Modified Cases, the prevalence of any current product use is predicted to decline from about 22% to 10% during follow-up, in the Modified Case about 25% of current users use ZYN by 2050, about a quarter being dual users and the rest ZYN-only users. Over the 50 years, deaths at ages 35-84 from product use among the 100,000 are estimated as 249 less in the Modified than the Base Case, equivalent to about 700,000 less deaths in the whole US. Sensitivity analyses varying individual parameter values confirm the benefits of switching to ZYN, which increase as either the switching rate to ZYN increases or the initiation rate of ZYN relative to smoking increases. Even assuming the reduction in excess mortality risk using ZYN use is 20% of that from smoking rather than the 3.5% assumed in the main analyses, the reduction in product-related deaths would still be 213, or about 600,000 in the US. ConclusionsAlthough such model-based estimates are subject to uncertainties, the results suggest that introducing ZYN could substantially reduce smoking-attributable deaths.

Many academic libraries have developed and/or purchased digital systems over the years, including digital collection platforms, institutional repositories, and other online tools on which users depend. At Hesburgh Libraries, as with other institutions, some of these systems have aged without strong guidance and resulted in stale services and technology. This case study will explore the lengthy process of stewarding an aging service that satisfies critical external needs. Starting with a brief literature review and institutional context, the authors will examine how the current product owners have embraced the role of maintainers, charting a future direction by defining a clear vision for the service, articulating firm boundaries, and prioritizing small changes. The authors will conclude by reflecting on lessons learned and discussing potential future work, both at the institutional and professional level.

The Polish part of the Roztocze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve area is characterized by diversified geotourism resources with relatively high value. However, their potential seems not to be fully used in the current product offer. The aim of the study was therefore to assess the spatial variability of the geotourism potential and function and to determine their interrelations in view of further development of geotourism in the Roztocze TBR and the perspective of creation of the “Kamienny Las na Roztoczu” geopark. The study was carried out with the use of the taxonomic method of multidimensional comparative analysis consisting of calculation and analysis of general, total, and partial indices of the geotourism potential and function in 22 communes. The results showed the highest total indicator of geotourism potential in two communes, i.e. Józefów and Krasnobród, and the highest value of the total geotourism function index in Krasnobród. The results of the analysis of the relationships between the geotourism potential and function indicate that the geotourism resources and products are fully used in terms of the development of the function only in Krasnobród commune. In turn, the value of the total geotourism function index in the Zwierzyniec commune exceeds the geotourism potential indicator, which implies that this area is overloaded by tourist movement. The total indicators of geotourism potential in the other communes, especially Józefów, Krasnobród, Lubycza Królewska, and Susiec, indicate the possibility of more intensive exploitation of geotourism resources in preparation of interesting products in compliance with the principles of sustainable development and, consequently, the development of the geotourism function.

Abstract. A large set of historical surface drifter data from the Gulf of Mexico – 3770 trajectories spanning 28 years and more than a dozen data sources – are collected, uniformly processed and quality controlled, and assimilated into a spatially and temporally gridded dataset called GulfFlow. This dataset is available in two versions, with 1/4∘ or 1/12∘ spatial resolution respectively, both of which have overlapping monthly temporal bins with semimonthly spacing and which extend from the years 1992 through 2020. Together these form a significant resource for studying the circulation and variability in this important region. The uniformly processed historical drifter data from all publicly available sources, interpolated to hourly resolution, are also distributed in a separate product called GulfDriftersOpen. Forming a mean surface current map by directly bin-averaging the hourly drifter data is found to lead to severe artifacts, a consequence of the extremely inhomogeneous temporal distribution of the drifters. Averaging instead the already monthly-averaged data in GulfFlow avoids these problems, resulting in the highest-resolution map of the mean Gulf of Mexico surface currents yet produced. The consolidated drifter dataset is freely available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3985916 (Lilly and Pérez-Brunius, 2021a), while the gridded products are available for noncommercial use only (for reasons discussed herein) at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3978793 (Lilly and Pérez-Brunius, 2021b).

A smell in industrial product design is defined as an awareness of the dimensions in design creation. Theoretical development for the role of smells in design has led to a significant increase in industrial design. However, despite numerous studies on smells within industrial design, a holistic overview through systematic reporting remains unavailable. In this paper, the authors conducted a systematic review of studies on smells in academic articles on industrial design. The review method was adopted from the Reporting Standards for Systematic Evidence Syntheses (ROSES). The academic databases involved are Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science and Google Scholar. This study discovered that studies on smells in industrial design have researched the following aspects: 1) smells as design attributes; 2) users' perceptions based on smells; and 3) appraisals of smells embedded in products. Practitioners, educators and researchers can use this systematic review to examine the needs of smell-related sensorial concerns in the current product design applications.

AbstractUnit under test identification (UUT) is often difficult due to test smells, such as testing multiple UUTs in one test. Because the tests best reflect the current product specification they can be used to comprehend parts of the production code and the relationships between them. Because there is a similar vocabulary between the test and UUT, five NLP techniques were used on the source code of 5 popular Github projects in this paper. The collected results were compared with the manually identified UUTs. The tf-idf model achieved the best accuracy of 22% for a right UUT and 57% with a tolerance up to fifth place of manual identification. These results were obtained after preprocessing input documents with java keywords removal and word split. The tf-idf model achieved the best model training time and the index search takes within 1s per request, so it could be used in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) as a support tool in the future. At the same time, it has been found that, for document preprocessing, word splitting improves accuracy best and removing java keywords has just a small improvement for tf-idf model results. Removing comments only slightly worsens the accuracy of Natural Language Processing (NLP) models. The best speed provided the word splitting with average 0.3s preprocessing time per all documents in a project.

The variety of complaints appearing on Aviation Industry in Indonesia actually indicates the existence of problems on aviation system in Indonesia. The number of complaints may serve as an early detection in a system before the occurrence of an accident in a flight. Increasing numbers of flight service users in Indonesia had not been supported with an adequate complaint delivery, whether it is for internal complaints or external ones. One of available solutions is to detect whether all system components on Aviation Industry in Indonesia is good or not. In an effort to enhance system performance, a model for integrated complaint delivery is developed on Aviation Industry based on SMS Gateway in Indonesia. The model is expected to become a data bank on Aviation Industry to ease controlling, evaluating and improving condition performance on flight systems. This research used comparative and descriptive methods. It also results in applied product hence it is expected that the output can be used to complement the current product/program operated by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The development of a model for complaint delivery is conducted to make cellular phone numbers inputs for all stakeholders on aviation industry. This strategy activates all stakeholders to provide information regarding the current conditions for all subsystems in flight system in Indonesia

Equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone produced by pregnant mares that has been used to improve reproduction activity in different types of livestock. Several strategies to produce the hormone in a recombinant way have been reported; nevertheless, none approach has been able to produce a recombinant eCG (reCG) with significant in vivo bioactivity or in sufficient quantities for commercial purposes. For this reason, the only current product available on the market consists of partially purified preparations from serum of pregnant mares (PMSG). Herein, we describe a highly efficient process based on third-generation lentiviral vectors as delivery method for the production of reCG in suspension CHO-K1 cells, with productivities above 20 IU.106 cell-1.d-1 and 70% purification yields after one purification step. Importantly, reCG not only demonstrated biological activity in bovine cattle but also this bioactivity appeared to be higher than PMSG, since 140 IU of reCG were needed to exert the same biologic effect in an ovulation synchronization protocol compared to 400 IU of PMSG. The results obtained show that the developed strategy represents an attractive option to produce reCG and constitutes an auspicious alternative for the replacement of animals as a source of PMSG.
