Salting is the most common method to preserve hides and skins. However, this preservation system requires the generation of large amounts of contaminated salt, approximately three million tons per year. In recent years several researchers have suggested different methods for the short-term preservation of hides using plant-based formulations, which either minimize or even completely eliminate the use of salt in the process. In this work, the possibility of using wheat bran for this purpose was studied. Two methods of application (dry and aqueous solution) have been developed. They enable the preservation of hides for one month, reducing by half the salt used in the preservation stage without undermining the quality of the final leather. These two methods contribute to the improvement of the overall sustainability of the tanning process. With dry application, the use of salt is avoided and preservation occurs because the hide is dried. The application in aqueous solution (10% wheat bran) requires its previous hydrolysis and a minimum amount of salt (10ºBé). The preservation occurs because the acidity of the hide is increased.

In order to obtain better productivity and a good level of secondary metabolites for cultivating plants with organic residues, it is necessary to define the method of application and the best combination considering plant density. Our objective was to study the influence of the plant arrangement and methods of application of poultry manure in the soil over agroeconomic performance and the antioxidant activity of the hibiscus. Treatments in the field consisted of two plant arrangements (single or double rows, both with 0.50 meters between plants) and four methods of application of poultry manure to the soil [incorporating (10 t ha-1), mulching (10 t ha-1), mulching (5 t ha-1) + incorporating (5 t ha-1) and a control—no poultry manure] and, in the laboratory, antioxidant activity in relation to the treatments in the field and preparation methods (maceration or infusion). Treatments were arranged in randomized blocks of 2 × 4 with four replicates. The greatest production of dried calyx (0.68 t ha-1) and of capsules (1.32 t ha-1), the greatest number of fruits (2.10 million ha-1) and the greatest net income (R$ 36,115.42) resulted of plants cultivated in single rows with the poultry manure covering the crops. The antioxidant activity of the hibiscus calyces showed no variation in relation with field treatments or with the method of preparation. Cultivation in single rows covered with poultry manure is adequate for the hibiscus plant.

The soils of Brazilian Savanna, naturally, present acidity problems, making correction practices fundamental to ensure production. Even with so many years since the introduction of agriculture, some soil correction practices are still misused. Thus, the objective was to evaluate soybean yield and chemical changes in a Red Oxisol in the Brazilian Savanna with the use of limestone, associated or not with gypsum, applied superficially and incorporated by harrow and moldboard plow. The experiment was conducted under field conditions, in Rio Verde-GO, cultivating soybeans in the 2015/2016 and 2016/1017 harvests. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with four replications, with treatments arranged in a 3 × 3 factorial scheme. The first factor refers to the application of superficial limestone and incorporated by harrow and moldboard plow. The second factor was the presence or absence of limestone and/or gypsum (0 + 0; 0.875 + 0 and 0.875 + 1.75 t ha-1). Plant height, number of pods per plant, productivity, pH, Al, CTC, Ca, Mg and V were evaluated, in soil depths of 0-0.2 and 0.2-0.4 m. In the 2016/2017 harvest, the characteristics of pH, CTC, V and contents of Ca, Mg and Al were influenced by the methods of application of limestone and by its use, associated or not with gypsum. There was an increase in pH on the soil surface with the use of limestone and on the subsurface with the use of limestone and gypsum. The moldboard plow provided increases in the contents of Ca and Mg in the soil in comparison to surface application. The moldboard plow incresed in soybean yield, in the second crop, with and without association of gypsum with limestone.

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the methods of application of AMF cultures in the management of Orobanche viz., planting of pre colonized tobacco seedling; soil application and the combination of both. The experiment was carried out in Orobanche infested soils of tobacco growing areas of Belagavi district. The results of the present investigations have revealed that the treatment received STD AMF had reduced the emergence of Orobanche (1.33 plot-1) compared to UASDAMFT (1.67 plot-1) and UASDAMFS (2.89 plot-1). The results with respect to different methods of applications of AMF on Orobanche numbers revealed that planting of pre colonized tobacco seedling plus soil application at the time of planting suppressed the Orobanche emergence (0.00 plot-1) compared to planting of pre colonized seedlings (1.67 plot-1) and direct soil application of AMF cultures at the time of planting (4.22 plot-1).The results pertaining to the interactive effect between mycorrhizal cultures in conjunction with the methods of application of AMF cultures significantly reduced the population of Orobanche with the treatment received planting of pre colonized seedling along with soil application of UASDAMFT, UASDAMFS and STD AMF recorded zero emergences of Orobanche at 60 DAP. However, the highest numbers of weeds were recorded in uninoculated control (68.67plot-1). Furthermore, mycorrhizal parameters like spore count and percent of root colonization were found to be the highest in the plots received mycorrhization in the form of pre-colonization and soil application with STD AMF at the time of transplanting in the main field compared to uninoculated control.

Seprafilm becomes brittle and sticky after contact with water, rendering it difficult to use in laparoscopic surgery. Hence, Seprafilm is not used frequently in laparoscopic surgery. This prospective randomized controlled trial aimed to compare the feasibility of two methods of application of Seprafilm: wet and non-wet. Two groups comprised 30 patients, each with 180 pieces of Seprafilm. Symptomatic patients who underwent laparoscopic surgeries, including hysterectomy and adnexal surgeries, were recruited. Successful application of Seprafilm was defined as a smooth attachment to the site of application. Sticky and fractured Seprafilm sheets were defined as failed applications. Between March 2016 and December 2017, 60 patients underwent laparoscopic Seprafilm placement. The preparation time was 32.67 ± 16.63 and 79.50 ± 22.01 s in the non-wet and wet groups, respectively (p < 0.00). The success rate of application was 95.4% in the non-wet group and 98.3% in the wet group (p = 0.09). Placement time was 599.50 ± 90.18 s and 592.53 ± 105.82 s in the non-wet and wet groups, respectively (p = 0.25). In conclusion, the wet and non-wet application methods of Seprafilm were feasible in laparoscopic surgeries. The preparation time was different between the two groups. However, the rate of successful application and placement time was not different between the two groups.
