The preparation of 7R-HMR (allo-hydroxymatairesinol) is reported by: (a) NaBH4 kinetic reduction of 7R/7S diastereomeric mixture; and (b) epimerization of the C7 hydroxyl group by Mitsunobu reaction and subsequent ester hydrolysis. The availability of highly pure target compound (7R-HMR) made it possible to confirm the structure of the target compound and to complete the full spectroscopic characterization.

AbstractI present a method for estimating the fidelity F(μ, τ) between a preparable quantum state μ and a classically specified pure target state $$\tau =\left|\tau \right\rangle \left\langle \tau \right|$$ τ = τ τ , using simple quantum circuits and on-the-fly classical calculation (or lookup) of selected amplitudes of $$\left|\tau \right\rangle$$ τ . The method is sample efficient for anticoncentrated states (including many states that are hard to simulate classically), with approximate cost 4ϵ−2(1 − F)dpcoll where ϵ is the desired precision of the estimate, d is the dimension of the Hilbert space, and pcoll is the collision probability of the target distribution. This scaling is exponentially better than that of any method based on classical sampling. I also present a more sophisticated version of the method that uses any efficiently preparable and well-characterized quantum state as an importance sampler to further reduce the number of copies of μ needed. Though some challenges remain, this work takes a significant step toward scalable verification of complex states produced by quantum processors.

Structural and electrical properties of epitaxial Pb(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 films grown by pulsed laser deposition from targets with different purities are investigated in this study. One target was produced in-house by using high purity precursor oxides (at least 99.99%), and the other target was a commercial product (99.9% purity). It was found that the out-of-plane lattice constant is about 0.15% larger and the a domains amount is lower for the film grown from the commercial target. The polarization value is slightly lower, the dielectric constant is larger, and the height of the potential barrier at the electrode interfaces is larger for the film deposited from the pure target. The differences are attributed to the accidental impurities, with a larger amount in the commercial target as revealed by composition analysis using inductive coupling plasma-mass spectrometry. The heterovalent impurities can act as donors or acceptors, modifying the electronic characteristics. Thus, mastering impurities is a prerequisite for obtaining reliable and reproducible properties and advancing towards all ferroelectric devices.

The mechanochemical approach has been used here for preparation and polymorph resolution in porphyrinic MOF-525/PCN-223 zirconium metal-organic frameworks system, achieving pure target MOF phases in 30-60 minutes milling. In specific reaction condition, MOF-525 forms rapidly by milling but transforms into PCN-223, confirming it to be the kinetic phase in this polymorphic system. ESR measurements showed a strong effect of internal MOF structure on the spin structure of paramagnetic cations coordinated into porphyrin linkers, which show potential for these polymorphic MOFs in spintronics application.

AbstractSelective isolation of DNA is crucial for applications in biology, bionanotechnology, clinical diagnostics and forensics. We herein report a smart methanol-responsive polymer (MeRPy) that can be programmed to bind and separate single- as well as double-stranded DNA targets. Captured targets are quickly isolated and released back into solution by denaturation (sequence-agnostic) or toehold-mediated strand displacement (sequence-selective). The latter mode allows 99.8% efficient removal of unwanted sequences and 79% recovery of highly pure target sequences. We applied MeRPy for the depletion of insulin, glucagon, and transthyretin cDNA from clinical next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries. This step improved data quality for low-abundance transcripts in expression profiles of pancreatic tissues. Its low cost, scalability, high stability and ease of use make MeRPy suitable for diverse applications in research and clinical laboratories, including enhancement of NGS libraries, extraction of DNA from biological samples, preparative-scale DNA isolations, and sorting of DNA-labeled non-nucleic acid targets.

A novel flame retardant of methylmethoxyphosphonate aluminium (MMPA) was synthesized via the reaction of anhydrous aluminum chloride and dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP). The effects of introducing order of reactants, reaction time and washing agents were investigated to get pure target compound with higher yields.Application experiments indicates that MMPA is an effective flame retardant for PBT, especially when it is used in intumescent flame retardant(IFR) systems. When the composition of IFR is 20% wt., the limited oxygen index(LOI) value of the IFR-PBT is 30 and can pass the UL94 V-0 test.

ABSTRACTA novel approach to produce purified recombinant proteins was established. The target protein is produced as polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) synthase fusion protein, which mediates intracellular formation of PHA inclusions displaying the target protein. After isolation of the PHA inclusions, the pure target protein was released by simple enterokinase digestion.
