Reflections on Ludification: Approaching a Conceptual Framework – And Discussing Inherent Challenges

This article discusses the relatively new concept of ludification with the attempt of laying the theoretical groundwork for further studies. Although ludification ties in with both gamification and the concept and practice of transmedia it possesses unique characteristics and qualities of its own, primarily evolving around games and playful ways of structuring stories. The focus point is how traditional media such as tv-series and movies incorporate game-like traits and structures into their narrative structure. This concerns both the narrative structures that users can and cannot interact with. Among other things, we consider a deep understanding of ludification vital for the more practically oriented approach to learning through (serious) games. Thus, this paper serves as a prolegomenon to the interpretation of works of ludification, as well as to the diverse field of deploying gamified material in didactical and pedagogical context. In addition to the conceptual groundwork for understanding ludification and how it manifests itself we propose an analytical method for unearthing the traits and structures of ludification: we have coined this method the ludo-interpretation. Furthermore, this article discusses the merits and shortcomings of ludification and the ludo-interpretation in the final section where we deploy a Popperian inspired three-levelled falsification and refutation technique.

Acoustic Magnifying Lens Based on Compact Non-Dispersive Spiral Metamaterial Array

Acoustic magnifying lenses are utilized in a diversity of applications, from nondestructive detection of damages in materials to biomedical imaging. Acoustic metamaterials (MMs) provide powerful control over sound waves by using periodic structures made from natural materials. Existing acoustic meta-lens are commonly associated with designing dispersive metamaterial or connect with local resonator, thus resulting in inevitable deformity of waveforms. Although the four-blade spiral MMs has non-dispersive properties, how to further improve the transmission and reduce the manufacturing difficulty in a compact size is important to construction of a meta-lens. We propose a single-blade spiral metamaterial, which has higher transmission and non-dispersion properties. Based on this meta-unit, we designed and manufactured a meta-lens with the ability to amplify sound signals at the focus point. Different from previous research, the meta-lens is established by periodic meta-helicoid unit and presents great focusing ability while maintaining a compact volume. We show, both theoretically and experimentally, the thin flat acoustic magnifier can turn normally incident signals focusing on the prescribed point and augmenting pressure amplitude about three times. Moreover, the diameter of each element is only 10 mm, and the thickness of the meta-lens is 48mm. Our new strategy may offer an alternate route to the design of novel meta-lens and devices for acoustic application in the future.

Anna de Noailles stands aside as the only independent figure in the gallery of charmed princes and princesses: in Proust’s vision she is both a perfect work of art and a perfect author. The article proposes to study Proust’s fascination with the “Guermantes’ way” in the context of his quest for new ways of authorship.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji lebih dalam faktor hereditas dan lingkungan dalam mem- bentuk karakter dengan titik fokus melihat pada faktor manakah yang lebih dominan dalam pemben- tukan karakter individu. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kepustakaan. Sumber data dalam peneli- tian ini berupa buku-buku, jurnal dan situs-situs dari internet yang memiliki kaitan dengan topik yang diteliti. Teknik pengumupan data dalam penelitian ini yaitu studi dokumen. Analisis data menggunakan analisis isi (content analysis). Berdasarkan hasil studi yang dilakukan, penulis menemu- kan bahwa faktor hereditas dalam diri individu dipandang mempengaruhi dalam perkembangan jas- mani seperti warna kulit, warna mata, jenis rambut, dan sebagainya. Beberapa bentuk kepribadian dan perilaku sosial dapat merujuk pada faktor lingkungan. Here- dity and environmental factors are seen as factors that influence the process of forming the charac- teristics of each individual. Heredity is seen as a hereditary factor that is passed down from parents to children both physically and psychologically since the conception through genes. This study aims to examine more deeply the heredity and environmental factors in shaping character with a focus point to see which factors are more dominant in shaping individual characters. This research is a type of li- brary research. The data sources in this study are books, journals and websites from the internet that are related to the topic under the study. The data collection technique in this research is document stu- dy. The data analysis used content analysis. Based on the results of the study conducted, the authors found that heredity factors in individuals are seen as influencing physical development such as skin color, eye color, hair type, and so on. While some forms of personality and social behavior can refer to environmental factors.
