Acne is a skin issue that plagues many young people and adults. Even if it is cured, it leaves acne spots or acne scars, which drives many individuals to use skincare products or undertake medical treatment. On the contrary, the use of inappropriate skincare products can exacerbate the condition of the skin. In view of this, this work proposes the use of computer vision (CV) technology to realize a new business model of facial skincare products. The overall framework is composed of a finger vein identification system, skincare products’ recommendation system, and electronic payment system. A finger vein identification system is used as identity verification and personalized service. A skincare products’ recommendation system provides consumers with professional skin analysis through skin type classification and acne detection to recommend skincare products that finally improve skin issues of consumers. An electronic payment system provides a variety of checkout methods, and the system will check out by finger-vein connections according to membership information. Experimental results showed that the equal error rate (EER) comparison of the FV-USM public database on the finger-vein system was the lowest and the response time was the shortest. Additionally, the comparison of the skin type classification accuracy was the highest.

This study aims to investigate factors associated with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentration in Brazilian adults considering sociodemographic and lifestyle factors, as well as vitamin D-related single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). This is a cross-sectional study (n = 491; 34-79y; 251 women), nested within a prospective cohort (Pró-Saúde Study). Associations between serum 25(OH)D and sociodemographic characteristics, diet, use of supplement, physical activity, season of blood collection, body fat, skin type, sun exposure index, and SNPs CYP2R1-rs10741657 and GC-rs2282679 were explored by multiple linear regression. The prevalence of serum 25(OH)D < 50nmol/L was 55%. Serum 25(OH)D was lower among women (β = -4.38; 95%CI: -8.02; -0.74), those with higher visceral fat (β = -4.02; 95%CI: -5.92; -2.12), and those with AC and CC genotypes for GC-rs2282679 (β = -6.84; 95%CI: -10.09; -3.59; β = -10.63; 95%CI: -17.52; -3.74, respectively). Factors directly associated with serum 25(OH)D included summer (β = 20.14; 95%CI: 14.38; 25.90), intermediate skin type (β = 6.16; 95%CI: 2.52; 9.80), higher sun exposure (β = 0.49; 95%CI: 0.22; 0.75), vitamin D intake (β = 0.48; 95%CI: 0.03; 0.93), and physical activity (β = 4.65; 95%CI: 1.54; 7.76). Besides physical activity, diet, and sun exposure, non-modifiable factors, such as GC genotypes must be considered when evaluating vitamin D insufficiency in mixed-race populations. Moreover, high visceral fat in association with poorer vitamin D status deserve attention given that both conditions are unfavorably related with chronic and acute health outcomes.

Background: Hirsutism is a medical condition characterized by presence of excessive terminal (coarse) hair among females in androgen-dependent areas. psychological well-being of females is negatively influenced by hirsutism. Poly cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of hirsutism. However, hirsutism is found to exist without any underlying cause and is known as idiopathic hirsutism (IH). Studies have shown correlation between skin type and hirsutism among PCOS cohorts; however, no such relationship is known to exist between skin type and idiopathic hirsutism. Objective: To determine association between skin type and idiopathic hirsutism. Study Design: Case control study Place and Duration of Study: Department of Dermatology, HIT Hospital Taxila from 1st March 2019 to 29th February 2020. Methodology: 118 cases and 133 controls were included in study after informed consent. Skin type was determined by Fitzpatrick skin type (FST) rating scale ranging from I to IV. Modified Ferriman-Gallwey (mFG) visual four-point scale was used to quantify hirsutism into mild, moderate and severe. Results: Mean age of cases and controls was 31.01±9.5 years and 28.01±9.7 years respectively. Seventy four (62.7%) of cases and 88 (66.2%) controls had type III skin type. Eighty (67.8%) had mild (8-15) hirsutism. Statistically insignificant (P<0.05) association was found to exist between skin type and idiopathic hirsutism and severity of hirsutism. However, a statistically significant {P<0.05) association existed between hirsutism and BMI. Conclusion: Idiopathic hirsutism is found to have no association with skin type III or IV among Caucasians. Abstract Adopting different neutron and proton density distributions the cluster decay half-lives have been investigated using double-folding potentials with constant and nuclear asymmetry dependent sets of the parameters of nuclear densities. Two adopted asymmetry dependent sets of the parameters are fitted based on the microscopic calculations and calculated based on the neutron skin/halo-type nuclei assumption and employing experimental rms charge radii. The bulk agreement between theory and experiment has been obtained for entire sets of parameters using calculated cluster preformation probability. The very little differences between skin and halo-type assumption have been observed. However, the notable role of the asymmetry parameter has been seen in relatively large differences between the skin and skin-type with zero thickness.

A very important issue in the practice of cosmetologists is the selection of an appropriate cosmetic mask at the end of each care treatment. Due to their effects, cosmetic masks can contain various active substances in different concentrations that are tailored to the needs of a given skin type. The aim of the study was to investigate what are the guidelines of cosmetologists while choosing cosmetic masks in a beauty salon and home care.

Abstract The exposure to sun radiation is indispensable to our health; however, a long-term and high exposure could lead to cell damage, erythema, premature skin aging, and promotion of skin tumors. An underlying pathomechanism is the formation of free radicals which may induce oxidative stress at elevated concentrations. Different skin models, such as porcine-, murine-, human- ex vivo skin, reconstructed human skin (RHS) and human skin in vivo, were investigated during and after irradiation using X- and L-band EPR spectroscopy within different spectral regions (UVC to NIR). The amount of radical formation was quantified with the spin probe PCA and the radical types were measured ex vivo with the spin trap DMPO. The radiation dose influences the types of radicals formed in the skin. While reactive oxygen species (ROS) are always pronounced at low doses, there is an increase in lipid oxygen species (LOS) at high doses. Furthermore, the radical types arise independent from the irradiation wavelength, whereas the general amount of radical formation differs with the irradiation wavelength. Heat pre-stressed porcine skin already starts with higher LOS values. Thus, the radical type ratio might be an indicator of stress and the reversal of ROS/LOS constitutes the point where positive stress turns into negative stress.Compared to light skin types, darker types produce less radicals in the ultraviolet, similar amounts in the visible and higher ones in the infrared spectral region, rendering skin type-specific sun protection a necessity.
