The purpose of the study was to evaluate the Reading knowledge and linguistic Reading skills achievement of Grade 1 learners in three schools that are close to the District Administrative centre and three schools that are far from the District Administrative centre. The study employed a mixed method paradigm of an embedded method and descriptive survey design that used purposive and simple random sampling to select 6 Head teachers, 6 teachers, 6 SICs, 2 Education standards officers and 80 learners. Data was obtained from respondents by means of interviews, questionnaires and classroom observation schedules. Frequency, percentages, tables, graphs and pie-charts were used to analyze the quantitative and qualitative data obtained. Data was then analyzed by use of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer package. The findings revealed significant differences in that learners achievement of Reading knowledge and linguistic Reading skills between the two sets of schools. Findings showed differences in learners attendance of lessons and teachers absence in classrooms, poor state of infrastructure, multiple sessions, poor pedagogical practices, absence of adequate and appropriate teaching and learning materials in reading, limited number of textbooks, lack of improvisation, inadequate internal and external monitoring, irregular CPD meetings, poor teaching methods and techniques, inadequate assessment and poor record keeping.

A MoSi2 coating layer with a MoB protected layer was simply prepared by using a combined method, which involved slurry painting and an embedded method via a hot press sintering process. The microstructure and phase composition of the coatings were investigated and determined. The experimental time and the B addition are considered as important factors to be discussed in this study. All the results proved that when B is added, it was found that the formation of MoB played an important role of a diffusion barrier to Si and hindered the production of the poor oxidation resistance phases (Mo5Si3 and Mo3Si).

We propose a machine learning embedded method of parameters determination in the constitutional models of hydrogels. It is found that the developed logistic regression-like algorithm for hydrogel swelling allows us to determine the fitting parameters based on known swelling ratio and chemical potential. We also put forward the neural networks-like algorithm, which, by its own property, can converge faster as the layer deepens. We then develop neural networks-like algorithm for hydrogel under uniaxial load for experimental application purpose. Finally, we propose several machine learning embedded potential applications for hydrogels, which would provide directions for machine learning-based hydrogel research.

Feature plays a very important role in the analysis and prediction of data as it carries the most valuable information about the data. This data may be in a structured format or in an unstructured format. Feature engineering process is used to extract features from these data. Selection of features is one of the crucial steps in the feature engineering process. This feature selection process can adopt four different approaches. On that basis, it can be classified into four basic categories, namely filter method, wrapper method, embedded method, and hybrid method. This chapter discusses about different techniques coming under these four categories along with the research work on feature selection.

This paper investigates feature selection methods based on hybrid architecture using feature selection algorithm called Adapted Fast Correlation Based Feature selection and Support Vector Machine Recursive Feature Elimination (AFCBF-SVMRFE). The AFCBF-SVMRFE has three stages and composed of SVMRFE embedded method with Correlation based Features Selection. The first stage is the relevance analysis, the second one is a redundancy analysis, and the third stage is a performance evaluation and features restoration stage. Experiments show that the proposed method tested on different classifiers: Support Vector Machine SVM and K nearest neighbors KNN provide a best accuracy on various dataset. The SVM classifier outperforms KNN classifier on these data. The AFCBF-SVMRFE outperforms FCBF multivariate filter, SVMRFE, Particle swarm optimization PSO and Artificial bees colony ABC.

Abstract. Nuryandani E, Susandarini R, Indrianto A, Nuringtyas RT, Fathima AM, Subandiyah S. 2020. Short Communication: Variations of morphology, anatomy, and metabolite profiles of Citrus reticulata Blanco cv. Tawangmangu grafts produced by shoot tip grafting using several rootstocks. Biodiversitas 21: 4671-4676.  Cultivation of Citrus reticulata Blanco cv. Tawangmangu, one of leading mandarin cultivars in Indonesia, remains challenging due to the limitations of suitable rootstocks. The use of suitable rootstocks will greatly determine the success of grafting and affect the performance of the scion. This study aimed to evaluate the morphological, anatomical, and metabolic profiles of grafts between Tawangmangu and rootstocks from various species using shoot tip grafting. Observations of morphological, anatomical, and metabolite variation were carried out eight weeks after the beginning of the growth of the scions. The morphological characters were observed on leaves and stems of the scions. Anatomical data were obtained from the examination of longitudinal sections of grafts prepared using paraffin-embedded method. Analysis of metabolite profiles was performed using LC-MS. The results showed that for two of the three rootstocks used, C. ichangensis × C. reticulata cv. Austera (Japansche Citroen (JC)) and Citrus (Fortunella) japonica (Fortunella) scion growth was vigorous and resulted in a large number of leaves and long stems. Morphological variation was found in the leaf shape, as indicated by wider and wavy leaves of grafts with Fortunella, while narrower and straighter leaves were found in grafts with JC. The grafting onto the third rootstock, C. hystrix, induced dwarfing of the scions. Variation in the anatomical profiles was found in vascular vessels, and in exodermic and endodermic cell sizes. Differences in metabolic profiles of the grafts were found compared to scion and rootstocks. Results of this study provide an important contribution to the successful improvement of Tawangmangu.

The elastic constants of tungsten-rhenium alloy single crystals were calculated by simulation atomic method using embedded method atom of interatomic potential. The found results show that elastic constants are proportional to the rhenium concentration up to 25 at% Re at room temperature. By following, we observed the elastic constant C44 dependency of temperature and decreased of elastic constant C’=1/2(C11-C12) when the Re atom addition increases. We have found that a growing instability of the bcc crystal structure. Our parameter calculation model is in good agreement with experimental data.

Plant callus extracts are potential to be developed as ingredient in skincare products. Tomato callus is supposed to contain protein-derivatives and or other components such as secondary metabolites that play a role in skin regeneration. Therefore the production of calli is important to be studied for callus sustainable supply. This research aims to obtain optimum medium for callus induction and to analyze tomato callus development anatomically. In vitro culture response was assessed in tomato plant (Solanum lycopersicum L. ‘Permata’) for optimum callus induction. Seeds were grown on ¼ MS medium for 10-15 days. Hypocotyl was excised and cultured on MS medium + 2 mg/l 2,4-D for 15 days as the explants for callus induction. Callus was transferred to MS medium with 8 variations of PGRs including the combination of BAP + NAA, and 2,4-D. Both fresh and dry weight was measured every 5 days over 60 days to establish the growth kinetics and growth efficiency of callus. Anatomic characters of calli were examined through paraffin-embedded method. The result showed of MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/l NAA and 0.2 mg/l BAP is optimum for tomato callus induction, based on highest number of the absolute growth rate on fresh weight (73.77% per day), dry weight (3.84% per day), and callus initiation time (5.56 days) achieved by the medium. Cells in the ground tissue of tomato hypocotyl are competent to be dedifferentiated into a callus. This research results were expected to find out suitable methods for tomato callus production in preparation for skincare uses.
