In order to make rational use of waste cattle hair, the protein filler was prepared by using chitosan modified keratin which hydrolyzed waste cattle hair, then used in retanning and filling process. The optimal modification conditions of keratin: chitosan: keratin was 20:80, pH value was 2, time was 5h, chitosan modified keratin product zeta potential was 31.3mV, nanometer particle size was 482d·nm. Chitosan-modified keratin can be used as chrome auxiliaries in the retanning process to significantly reduce total chromium in the waste liquid. At the same time, the modified keratin had good filling performance. Moreover, the softness, tearing force and tensile strength of the shoe upper leather which filled with chitosan modified keratin were improved.

The good filling performance of self-compacting concrete (SCC) to pre-placed assembly of rocks is essential for quality of rock-filled concrete (RFC). In this study, a theoretical model is proposed to evaluate the filling capacity of SCC in porous media that is simplified to approximate the assembly of rocks. Numerical simulation of SCC flow in the porous media is carried out based on the computational fluid dynamics. The effects of yield stress of SCC and size and shape of grains in the porous media on the filling capacity of SCC are considered. The inclination of the free surface of the distribution of SCC at flow stoppage is defined to evaluate the filling capacity of SCC in the porous media. According to the theoretical model, the inclination is directly proportional to the yield stress of the SCC and the blocking effect of grains, while inversely proportional to the grain size. The numerical simulation provides consistent results with the theoretical model. The results suggest the use of rounded large rocks and SCC with low yield stress to ensure good quality of RFC.

ABSTRACT This study describes two major adaptations for the preparation of resin casts in human cirrhotic liver, harvested at the time of transplantation. The first is the way of fixing the catheter in the ostia of the hepatic and portal veins through a cerclage, so as to prevent displacement of the catheter and / or leakage of the resin during its injection. The second is the extension of corrosion time in the NaOH solution, averaging 6.8 days, with daily replacement the solution until complete removal of parenchymal tissue. We applied the method in 14 cirrhotic livers, with good filling and coloring of the portal and hepatic vein territories, using different colors. This allows an anatomical study of these vessels, able to complement the knowledge of the histopathology in research work, and the planning of therapeutic procedures, such as the Trans-Jugular Intrahepatic Port-Systemic Shunt (TIPS).

Abstract The demand for castings of high quality and sound work is nowadays very high. The production of sound castings without foundry errors is the big issue in modern foundries. Foundry simulation software can do a lot to help improve the disposition of castings, gating system and feeder system, and assure good filling and solidification conditions, and also produce sound casting without the need of the old method of "try and error". One can easily change a lot of parameters for filling and solidification, and create the best proposal for production. Connor inlets have two functions. One is that it serves as an ingate, through which molten metal passes and comes into the mould cavity. The second function is that it serves as a feeder and substitutes the metal contracted during solidification and cooling of the castings. It can also save quite a lot of metal in comparison to classic feeders.

An experimental program was undertaken to evaluate the performance of self-consolidating mortar designed for filling small annular spaces for the rehabilitation of underground water line or sewage pipelines. The study also intended to establish a testing protocol to validate the workability of repair grout. All the investigated mixtures had good filling and passing ability with adequate retention of workability over 3 h. The repair mortars exhibited high stability with bleeding lower than 0.3% compared to 3% bleeding in the case of the reference neat cement grout. The reference grout had a lower plastic viscosity and higher slump flow values than the sanded repair grouts. A V-funnel with 30 mm × 30 mm overture and a flow cone with 12.7 mm overture are recommended for mortar made with concrete sand with a 5 mm nominal size and micro mortar with fine sand with a nominal size up to 3 mm, respectively.

An injectable bone substitute (IBS) made of a suspension of Calcium phosphate ceramic was used to filled dental root canal after removing of canal pulp. The aim of this study was to verify the ability of calcium phosphate ceramic suspension to fill the apical zone of teeth ex vivo (n=40) and in vivo in a sheep model (n=8). The results showed that injection is possible with a good level of BCP granules at the end of the root dental canal with extracted tooth. In vivo, the presence of blood pressure due to the pulpectomy is a negative parameter to allow a good filling. The scanning electron microscopy revealed mineral formation at the apex level with mineral tissue conduction between the BCP granules but only one tooth showed a good apical filling with a good sealing. The sealing of the apex seems to depend of the amount of BCP granules. Other experiments with other animal models closer to a Human model have to be performed before human trials.

The earth dam type is widely used in the dam engineering. According to the investigation, the earth dam would suffer problems after running 100 to 200 years in good filling quality. However, in China, for many reasons, it would only need 30 to 40 years when problems occur. This essay study the problems about weak stress of earth dam by the site investigations, theoretic analysis and finite element analysis and put forward the theory of earth dam aging induced by stress weakening.

✓ Intracranial anastomosis between the distal anterior cerebral arteries (ACA's) was performed on two patients. One patient had isolated occlusion of the proximal ACA on one side causing monoparesis in the leg, and the other patient suffered from occlusion of the internal carotid artery and a small anterior communicating artery. The weakness of the legs improved immediately after surgery and cerebral angiography revealed a good filling of the bilateral ACA's. Technical aspects and indications for the procedure are discussed.
