Background: Purpose of this study was to study association of flexor pollicis longus tendon (FPL) attrition using Ultrasonography with plate position on radiographs in patients managed with volar locked compression plate fixation (LCP) in distal radius fractures. Methods: Status of flexor pollicis longus tendon was analysed by ultrasonography in patients who underwent volar locked compression plating a minimum of one year follow up. Soong’s criteria were used to assess the plate position and then correlated with the ultrasonography findings of flexor pollicis longus. Results: There were 45 patients included in our study, of which 28 belonged to Soong’s grade zero, 10 were grades one and 7 were grade two. Flexor pollicis longus attrition was noted in 5 cases with grade two plating. Conclusion: Amongst the cases with grade 2 of Soong’s criteria, attritional changes were seen in 72 percent of patients , which warrants a proper follow up to identify any impending signs of tendon rupture and to make early intervention to prevent rupture.

Abstract This study was aimed to analyze the genetic variation of bPRL (Bovine Prolactin) gene and its association to milk production in Indonesian Friesian Holstein (IFH) dairy cattle. In total 49 DNA from whole blood were extracted and followed with PCR-RFLP to distinguish the genotype difference between individual samples. The fragment of bPRL gene was amplified using pair of primer forward 5’-GAGTCCTTATGAGCTTGATTCTT-3’ and reverse 5’-GCCTTCCAGAAGTCGTTTGTTTTC-3’, resulting in 156 bp PCR product size. DNA digestion then performed using RsaI restriction enzyme that recognizes 5’-GT↓AC-3’ sites with blunt-end termini. According to the study, two genotypes were discovered that are AA and AB, with respective frequencies of 0.84 and 0.16. Based on the genotype grouping of milk production data, AB genotype yielded 4016.63±1344 kg while AA genotype yielded 3314.32±1153 Kg of milk per lactation. However, there is no statistical (P>0,05) difference between both genotypes on the amount of milk yielded. It is concluded that bPRL gene was not associated with milk production traits in the studied Indonesian Dairy Cattle population.

Abstract   The threshold criteria for diagnosing ineffective esophageal motility (IEM) has changed over the years and is based on the proportion of failed and weak peristalses. Bolus transit time (BTT) on barium esophagogram (BE) can intuitively be the ‘gold standard' for assessing the effectiveness of esophageal peristalsis. The aim of this study was to associate upright and prone BTT with esophageal peristalsis and dysphagia in patients with normal lower esophageal sphincter (LES) parameters. Methods Patients with normal LES on high-resolution manometry (HRM) who also had a standard-protocol BE from 2017 to 2020 were included. Patients with previous foregut surgery, hiatal hernia, jackhammer esophagus, distal esophageal spasm, fragmented peristalsis, and those with < or > 10 single swallows on HRM were excluded. Based on the number of normal swallows (DCI >450 mmHg.s.cm), the patients were divided into 11 groups (10 normal to 0 normal). Upright and prone BTT were measured on BE. Fractional polynomial and logistic regression analysis were used to study association (along with rate of change) between BTT, dysphagia, and peristalsis. Results In total, 146 patients met the inclusion criteria. Prone BTT increased in tandem with a decrease in the number of normal peristalses (p < 0.001), but no difference was noted in upright BTT (p = 0.317). Two deflection points were noted on the association between peristalsis and prone BTT at 50%, 40 seconds and 30%, 80 seconds on the y and x-axes, respectively, after which declining peristaltic function was independent of prone BTT. Patients with prone BTT >40 seconds had nearly 6-fold higher odds of having zero normal peristalses (p = 0.002). Increasing prone BTT was associated with increasing dysphagia (p < 0.05). Conclusion Prone, but not upright BTT, correlates with the proportion of normal esophageal peristalses and dysphagia. The phenotype of abnormal swallows (failed, weak) appears to have minimal impact on BTT. The current perspective of manometric classification may need to be adjusted to use the proportion of normal peristalses as a criterion.

Studying computer programming requires not only an understanding of theories and concepts but also coding adeptness. Success in studying or conducting such a course is definitely a challenge. This paper proposes a systematic learning style recommendation. The model is designed to evaluate students’ attributes and ongoing or formative learning outcomes for suggesting the effective style-fit strategy that facilitates learners to enhance their learning performances in terms of knowledge and skill. A two-stage association analysis was designed and conducted on a dataset collected from IT major students who enrolled in the Introduction to Computer Programming course. The first stage of association rules is to analyze and discover important relationships amongst learning styles, students’ attribute, and learning performance. The second stage of moderation analysis is then applied to probe the moderation effect of the different learning preferences on the relationship between student attributes and learning achievement. Experiments expose many insights, for example, mathematics and logical thinking are powerful assets of success in computer programming study. Association rules can effectively identify associations of learning styles and the learning performance in terms of knowledge or skills. By moderation analysis, students in the “Excellent” cluster have a broad learning style than other students. Two types of significant moderators, the universal and specific, exemplify how lecturers can flexibly post style-fit teaching strategies for a class-wide and specific group, respectively.

Background: Pre eclampsia complicates around 5-10% of pregnancies worldwide. Many countries in the world are far away of having interventions to predict and prevent preeclampsia. A number of biochemical, biophysical and sonographic parameters are emerging as a potential tool which can help us in a long way. This study was aimed to study association of biochemical markers of preeclampsia in early pregnancy with the development of preeclampsia. Methods: This cohort study was conducted over a period of one year in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. Results: Total number of women enrolled at 11-14 weeks were 56. The mean age of women enrolled was 28±4.2 years. Out of total 44.6% women were nulliparous. Mean crown rump length at testing was 60.55±11.26mm. There was a significant correlation between the levels of Placental growth factors and development of PE (p<0.01) and especially severe early onset disease, however we did not found a significant correlation between Pregnancy associated plasma protein and Preeclampsia. Conclusions: Placental growth factor is an emerging marker which could be incorporated in essential bundle of care at 11 to 14 weeks testing in order to enhance the detection rates of preeclampsia.

Abstract Background Heart failure (HF) is one of the most serious health concerns worldwide. Anemia is a highly prevalent comorbidity and outcome predictor in HF patients. Sodium glucose co-transport 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have been demonstrated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and HF hospitalization in HF patients. Purpose This investigator-initiated, interventional, prospective, double-blind, multicenter study is designed to investigate whether anemia correction is one of the prerequisites and determinants related to the beneficial effects of dapagliflozin in HF patients. Methods and Results Up to 2030 HF participants receiving standard care will be randomly assigned to either oral dapagliflozin 10 mg once daily or placebo 10 mg once daily for 12 months. The primary outcome is the composite incidence of hospital admission for HF and all-cause death. Secondary outcomes include change in the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) score and change in 6-min walk distance and hemoglobin level. Patients will be followed for 12 months after randomization. Conclusions The ADIDAS trial offers an opportunity to assess the hemoglobin change and association between hemoglobin change and readmissions due to heart failure and all-cause death in patients with heart failure treated with dapagliflozin or placebo. This study could highlight if dynamic hemoglobin change is related to the outcome for HF patients. Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov; NCT04707261. Registration date, 2020/12/01, “retrospectively registered”

Abstract Grip strength (GS) is used as an index of overall health in children. The objectives of our study were to assess GS, gender differences in GS in 9 -18 year old urban (U) and rural (R) Indian children, study association of GS with body composition (BC) and assess determinants. This was part of a multicentre, cross sectional, school-based study (n=1978, mean age 13.3 ± 2.2 years) from 3 U and R states. Anthropometry, BC, dietary intake, physical activity, sunlight exposure and GS (in Kg) measurements were performed. The mean GS increased with age but plateaued in girls after 12 years; was higher in boys (19.6 ± 9.2) than girls (14.3 ± 5.3) (p < 0.05). Mean GS was higher in U (21.05 ± 9.7) than in R boys (17.8 ± 8.2) (p < 0.05), comparable in U (14.9 ± 5.2) and R girls (13.8 ± 5.5). GS in girls remained lower than boys after adjusting for muscle mass (MM). Difference between boys and girls reduced after body size (BMI) correction, but remained low in girls plateauing after 15 years. MM and age were significant determinants of GS in all children. On addition of lifestyle factors, GS was explained to varied degrees, the least in U girls, followed by R girls and R boys and the most in U boys. Conclusion: In boys, nutrition though body size and composition was largely responsible for the differences in GS and in girls, additionally socio-cultural factors also possibly impact GS.
