The occurrence of monochorionic diamniotic twins with sex discordance is a very rare phenomenon. We present a case of spontaneously conceived gender-discordant monochorionic diamniotic twins born to a 23-year-old female, both twins demonstrating similar blood karyotype 45,X/46,X, idic(Y) and a novel 99 kb mutation at 3p24.3 involving exons 15–16 of transcript NM_001134381.1 of the Tre-2/Bub2/Cdc16 Domain Family Member 5 ( TBC1D5) gene. The male twin showed no anatomic abnormalities and pelvic ultrasound revealed descended gonads. The female twin had a horseshoe-shaped kidney, normal uterus, and intra-abdominal gonads. The blood karyotype and microarray studies revealed similar distribution of X and isodicentric Y chromosome along with a novel genetic mutation which has not been previously reported. Our case findings not only report Turner syndrome mosaicism with a novel genetic mutation but also stress the importance of clinical follow-up of twins in order to evaluate the functional abnormalities associated with isodicentric Y chromosomes including germ cell tumors.

Hemorrhoids in pregnancy rarely require surgical treatment. Hemorrhoidectomy when done in pregnancy may result in complications for the mother or fetus. With multiple gestations (twin gestation in this case), the risk of these complications could be higher, more so, when done in the third rather than second trimester. We report the management of a 29yr old woman with twin gestation and in situ cervical cerclage who developed strangulated hemorrhoids at 30 weeks gestation. She had successful hemorrhoidectomy, continued her pregnancy until vaginal delivery of a healthy set of male twin neonates at 37 weeks gestation without recurrence.

Background and objectives: The purpose of this project is to evaluate the association between twin sex discordance and menstrual characteristics. We hypothesize that sharing the uterus with a male twin can change ovulation programming, hence changing the menstrual cycle characteristics during adulthood. This project could be novel in discovering new physiological mechanisms of hormone exposure and menstrual cycles. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional study. We asked females from sex-concordant (n = 1290) and sex-discordant (n = 168) twin pairs in the Washington State Twin Registry about characteristics of menstrual cycles. Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) analysis was used to compare groups. The main outcome measures included the amount of bleeding, duration of menstruation, the timing of menstruation, length of menstruation, and a number of periods per year. Results: We found a statistically significant association between the amount of menstrual period bleeding and twin sex discordance (0.42 (95% CI 0.18–0.94)). However, twin sex discordance was not associated with period duration, length of menstrual cycle, cycle regularity, or a number of periods per year. Conclusions: Twin sex discordance is not a predictor of clinical characteristics of menstruation during adulthood except for the amount of bleeding. Future studies should focus on the impact of male hormones on the amount of bleeding during menstruation.

AbstractScholarly literature claims that health declines in populations when optimism about investing in the future wanes. This claim leads us to describe collective optimism as a predictor of selection in utero. Based on the literature, we argue that the incidence of suicide gauges collective optimism in a population and therefore willingness to invest in the future. Using monthly data from Sweden for the years 1973–2016, we test the hypothesis that the incidence of suicide among women of child-bearing age correlates inversely with male twin births, an indicator of biological investment in high-risk gestations. We find that, as predicted by our theory, the incidence of suicide at month t varies inversely with the ratio of twin to singleton male births at month t + 3. Our results illustrate the likely sensitivity of selection in utero to change in the social environment and so the potential for viewing collective optimism as a component of public health infrastructure.

AbstractThis case study examined the hypothesis that longer outdoor time results in normal vision and refractive status, using unique genetically informative kinships. The participants were the members of 29-year-old doubly exchanged monozygotic male twin pairs from Bogotá, Colombia, in South America. Comprehensive ophthalmological examinations, including uncorrected and corrected visual acuity, refraction and keratometry, and visual life history interviews were undertaken; all examinations were conducted by two ophthalmologists blind to the hypothesis, relatedness, and rearing status of the four participants. Normal uncorrected vision and refractive status were present in the two rural-raised, unrelated brothers, relative to their urban-raised counterparts. Uncorrected visual acuities were 20/160 and 20/200 for the city-raised twins and 20/20 and 20/30 for the country-raised twins. Premature birth, low birth weight, computer use, and reading time could not explain these differences. It was concluded that time spent outdoors appears to be a significant factor in the development of myopia, reinforcing extant findings via a novel experimental approach.

The study aims to evaluate the pre-weaning production prospectus kids of PE crossed with Boer buck. Twenty PE does were in the average 39.35 kg body weight and 3 in body condition score. Does were offered single feed sesbandia glandiflora leaves twice a day. All does were synchronized by 2 ml Capriglandin, inseminate fix time at 48-52 hours following Capriglandin injection. If the does were return to estrus following AI, then they were allowed natural mating. Data collected included gestation period, birth weight and average daily gain (ADG), tabulated and calculated for Mean±SD, interpreted and explained descriptively. The number of kid were 34 consisting of 6 singles male (SM), 12 single female (SF), 8 male twin (MT), 2 female twins (FT) and 6 male-female twins (MFT). Gestation period (days) were 152±0.47 and 152±2.00 for SM and MT. Shorten gestation period were noted for SF, FT and MFT (149±3.82; 150±3.94 and 147±2.94, respectively). The highest birth weight (kg) was SM (4.27±0.29) followed by SF (3.52±0.27), MFT (2.97±0.44), FT (2.73±0.23) and MT (2.71±0.54). The highest ADG (gr/day) occurred at 0-30 days was in MT (201.33 g/d) and the lowest was in FT (137.33 g/d). In conclusion, crossbreeding kid of PE VS Boer goat has a high prospectus as dual purpose stockbreeder

Dr. Irving I. Gottesman was very creative in applying twin research designs to test hypotheses and predictions about human behavior. Two designs stand out among others: twins reared apart from birth and the twin-family study. I (NS) was inspired to incorporate both of these approaches into my own research programs at California State University, Fullerton. Gottesman's involvement and contributions to reared-apart twin research are described, followed by selected findings from the Minnesota Study of Twins Reared Apart (MISTRA), the Fullerton Study of Chinese Twins Reared Apart (CTA), a case report on separated monozygotic (MZ) female twins from South Korea, and doubly exchanged MZ male twin pairs from Colombia, South America. Recent findings from an ongoing twin-family study of social closeness, and future directions, are also presented.

This research was conducted to discover the acquisition of words acquired by two-year-old twin children, two females and two males. The two females were Yaya and Tata and the two males were Randy and Rendy. The main objectives of this research are to discover how the number words acquired by two-year-old twin children, to discover who acquires more verbs and nouns among the four subjects and to discover the differences between female and male twin children in acquiring words. The instruments used for data collection were observations and interviews. The observations were conducted for three months, twice a week and interviewing children’s parents by asking some questions. The problems of this research were how many verbs and nouns are acquired by two-year-old twin children? Who acquires more words among the four twin children? Is there any difference between female and male twin children in acquiring verbs and nouns? Based on the observations, female children acquired more words than male children, but the male children produced the words clearer than female. Within that period, Yaya obtained 206 words, (134 nouns and 72 verbs), Tata obtained 237 words, (149 nouns and 88 verbs), Randy obtained 227 words, (136 nouns and 79 verbs), Rendy obtained 230 words, (138 nouns and 92 verbs). From all the words which were obtained by the subjects the result showed that nouns dominate the acquisition and the result of the observation Tata was the best in acquiring verbs and nouns among the four subjects.
