Carcinosarcomas (CSs) of the endometrium have admixture of malignant epithelial and mesenchymal components. The carcinomatous component exhibit endometrioid, serous, or clear cell differentiation, or are undifferentiated. CSs are considered homologous or heterologous according to the type of sarcomatous component. Sertoliform endometrioid carcinomas (SECs) of the endometrium which comprise a rare subtype of endometrial cancer, typically occur in the ovary. SECs as a carcinomatous component of CS of the endometrium have not been reported. Here, we report an endometrial carcinosarcoma that contains an SEC component. An 88-year-old female presented to a clinic with atypical genital bleeding. She was referred to our hospital and underwent total hysterectomy, bilateral adnexectomy and partial omentectomy due to endometrial carcinoma. Gross examination revealed a polypoid mass in the uterine cavity with massive myometrial invasion. Histologically, the tumor was a high-grade endometrioid carcinoma. In addition to an ordinary conventional endometrioid carcinoma, approximately 30% of the area exhibited sex cord-like pattern and contained small hollow tubules, anastomosing cords and trabeculae, and tightly packed nests. Immunohistochemically, the SEC component showed diffuse p53 staining. Sex cord-like area, especially the solid area, showed positive staining for EMA, vimentin, α-inhibin, CD99, calretinin, p53, CD56, synaptophysin, and chromogranin A, which is a staining pattern similar to that previously reported SEC of the endometrium. Diminished membranous and positive cytoplasmic staining for β-catenin was observed. This is the first case report of an endometrial carcinosarcoma containing an SEC component. SECs of the endometrium might exhibit sex cord-like differentiation in contrast to SECs of the ovary, which do not exhibit sex cord differentiation.

The present study is based on histomorphological evaluation in 107 cases of Ovarian neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions received. The gross specimens received were fixed in 10 percent formalin for 24 hours. Gross examination was done carefully examining the outer surface and on-cut surface of ovary, looking for any cyst with its content and type of fluid filled inside, any solid area, papillary projections and growth. Observational study.Among 69 non neoplastic lesions, right sided cases found in 34 (49.4%), and left sided lesion found in 22 cases (31.8%). 13 cases (18.8%) of non neoplastic lesions are observed to be bilateral. Like non neoplastic lesions, neoplastic lesions are also found more common on right side (55%) than left (35%), while bilaterality is found in 10% of the cases. The results of present study are comparable to other series of studies regarding occurrence with respect to age, bilaterality, gross features and microscopy. Both non neoplastic and neoplastic lesions were more common in right side. 18% of non neoplastic and 11% of neoplastic lesions were found to be bilateral.

A study which assess the relation between size of ovary and various histomorphological patterns.Gross examination was done carefully examining the outer surface and on-cut surface of ovary, looking for any cyst with its content and type of fluid filled inside, any solid area, papillary projections and growth. Associated tissue piece if received were also carefully examined and grossed.Radiologically, of total 66 non neoplastic cases, 51 are reported as benign ovarian cyst, 05 as complex ovarian cyst, 04 as hemorrhagic cyst, 03 as bulky uterus and 02 as adenexal mass. 03 out of 05 cases of non-specific oophoritis are reported as benign ovarian cyst, all 01 cases of tuberculosis are reported as complex ovarian cyst. Of 07 follicular cysts, 05 are reported as benign ovarian cyst, 01 as complex ovarian cyst and one each as hemorrhagic cyst and bulky uterus. Of 24 cases diagnosed as simple serous cyst histologically, 20 are reported as benign ovarian cyst, 02 as bulky uterus and 02 as adenexal mass. 04 out of 04 cases of endometriosis are reported as benign ovarian cyst. Observational Study. Viable therapeutic administration of ovarian dangerous tumors keeps on being a test to the oncologist. A precise histopathological determination joined with clinical organizing will help in delivering expeditious and fitting treatment to the patient. The ovary is a successive site for essential malignancy. Because of various cell types and its unpredictable design, essential ovarian neoplasms are of different histological types.

Abstract This research aimed to compare the ultimate load of 10 waffle flat slabs with different sizes of solid area and spacing between ribs. For this, a non-linear computational simulation of the slabs was carried out until their failure using the engineering software ANSYS. The failure modes and loads were analyzed, and the results showed that the models with less solid area presented less bearing capacity in comparison to the models with greater solid area when the failure mode was shearing of the ribs. The slabs with the largest solid regions experienced punching shear and behaved in a similar way as solid flat slabs, indicating compliance with the codes in relation to their punching shear strength provisions, especially with the NBR 6118. The results show that a square solid area whose length is 15% of the span is reasonable and that the ACI, Eurocode 2 and NBR 6118 provisions underestimate the shear strength of the ribs.

Abstract Superhydrophobic surfaces are widely used in many industrial settings, and mainly consist of rough solid protrusions that entrap air to minimize the liquid/solid area. The stability of the superhydrophobic state favors relatively small spacing between protrusions. However, this in turn increases the lateral adhesion force that retards the mobility of drops. Here we propose a novel approach that optimizes both properties simultaneously. Inspired by the hydrophobic leaves of Salvinia molesta and the slippery Nepenthes pitcher plants, we designed a Salvinia-like slippery surface (SSS) consisting of protrusions with slippery heads. We demonstrate that compared to a control surface, the SSS exhibits increased stability against pressure and impact, and enhanced lateral mobility of water drops as well as reduced hydrodynamic drag. We also systematically investigate the wetting dynamics on the SSS. With its easy fabrication and enhanced performance, we envision that SSS will be useful in a variety of fields in industry.

Abstract Introduction: Thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs) are uncommon benign congenital entities. Rarely, thyroid carcinoma can arise from a TGDC; the most common being papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Similar to TGDC, carcinomas originating within them can present as an asymptomatic midline neck mass. Signs of malignancy include dysphagia, dysphonia, weight loss, and rapid growth. Given the rarity of TGDC carcinomas, clinical management remains controversial, particularly regarding the requirement for total thyroidectomy. Case: A 52-year-old female with history of an anterior central neck mass initially noted in 2017. A 0.3-cm left lobe mid-segment cyst and a complex thyroglossal avascular simple cyst measuring 2.4 × 1.1 × 1.8 cm was observed during ultrasound (US). She presented to the endocrinology clinic in April 2019 due to progressive enlargement of the mass. Repeat thyroid US revealed that the cystic structure had become complex with a peripheral solid component and measured 3.3 × 2.1 × 2.2 cm. FNA was performed and found to be suspicious for PTC (Bethesda category V) and positive for the BRAF V600E mutation. Patient was referred for surgical evaluation. Physical examination revealed a midline anterior 10-cm, painless, and fixed mass above the thyroid that moved with deglutition and tongue protrusion. Contrast computed tomography scan showed a large multiloculated cystic structure measuring 4.1 × 4.4 × 5.9 cm. A lobulated soft tissue mass measuring 2.2 × 2.4 × 3.0 cm was noted internally along the inferior margin of the cyst. She underwent en-block resection of the TGDC in addition to a total thyroidectomy. Histopathological examination identified a 7.5 × 5.5 × 5.0 cm cystic mass with fluctuation and a firm, solid area in the lower portion measuring 2.6 × 2.4 cm. Thyroid gland examination was otherwise unremarkable. No areas of extension of the mass into the thyroid tissue were clearly identified and no other gross lesions were observed. The solid area within TGDC contained a tumor with findings characteristic of PTC. Postoperatively, she was placed on thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Conclusion: The main difficulty encountered with cancer developing from TGDC is that the diagnosis is usually made during surgery and from definitive pathological samples. The most common surgical procedure used is the Sistrunk procedure. Some studies have suggested that this procedure alone is an adequate therapy, but others advocate the need for total thyroidectomy. The Sistrunk procedure is considered to be appropriate for low-risk patients, but high-risk patients must undergo total thyroidectomy. The decision to perform a total thyroidectomy in this patient was based on her high-risk classification due to: age, sex, cyst size, and a positive FNA for malignancy. Follow-up includes an annual physical examination, thyroglobulin levels, and an US every 6 months during the first year and annually thereafter.

In recent years, concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) bridges have been widely used in bridge construction. However, interface disengaging is one of the bridges’ most common defects. It affects not only the confinement of the steel tube to the core concrete, but also the bearing capacity and the structure durability. In order to solve the problem of disengaging at the interface of steel tube-confined concrete and ensure the integrity of the structure, a new method based on a distributed temperature detection system is proposed to identify disengaging at the interface between steel tube and concrete. Through the analysis of experiments and numerical simulation, it was found that when the structure surface was heated, the temperature of the void area was higher than that of the solid area. The temperature of the maximum void height was the highest, the temperature increase rate was the fastest, and the cooling rate was the slowest. The boundary of the void suffered from sudden changes in temperature. The more serious the void, the greater was the temperature difference between the void and the solid. After changing the heating direction, the temperature distribution could still be identified. This study achieved simplicity and efficiency with respect to the detection of interface separation.
