Background: Stroke in UK Biobank (UKB) is ascertained via linkages to coded administrative datasets and self-report. We studied the accuracy of these codes using genetic validation. Methods: We compiled stroke-specific and broad cerebrovascular disease (CVD) code lists (Read V2/V3, ICD-9/-10) for medical settings (hospital, death record, primary care) and self-report. Among 408,210 UKB participants we identified all with a relevant code, creating 12 stroke definitions based on the code type and source. We performed genome-wide association studies (GWASs) for each definition, comparing summary results against the largest published stroke GWAS (MEGASTROKE), assessing genetic correlations, and replicating 32 stroke-associated loci. Results: Stroke case numbers identified varied widely from 3,976 (primary care stroke-specific codes) to 19,449 (all codes, all sources). All 12 UKB stroke definitions were significantly correlated with the MEGASTROKE summary GWAS results (rg 0.81-1) and each other (rg 0.4-1). However, Bonferroni-corrected confidence intervals were wide, suggesting limited precision of some results. Six previously reported stroke-associated loci were replicated using ≥1 UKB stroke definitions. Conclusions: Stroke case numbers in UKB depend on the code source and type used, with a 5-fold difference in the maximum case-sample size. All stroke definitions are significantly genetically correlated with the largest stroke GWAS to date.

AbstractFortran is still widely used in scientific computing, and a very large corpus of legacy as well as new code is written in FORTRAN 77. In general this code is not type safe, so that incorrect programs can compile without errors. In this paper, we present a formal approach to ensure type safety of legacy Fortran code through automated program transformation. The objective of this work is to reduce programming errors by guaranteeing type safety. We present the first rigorous analysis of the type safety of FORTRAN 77 and the novel program transformation and type checking algorithms required to convert FORTRAN 77 subroutines and functions into pure, side-effect free subroutines and functions in Fortran 90. We have implemented these algorithms in a source-to-source compiler which type checks and automatically transforms the legacy code. We show that the resulting code is type safe and that the pure, side-effect free and referentially transparent subroutines can readily be offloaded to accelerators.

In the dynamics of a state, any change can happen through a social movement as an initial stage.  Studies about it have been conducted since the 1940s. Nowadays, as the shift of the era involves communication technology, the model of the social movement has changed as well. Collectivity dominated the social movement in the past, but connectivity is more prominent nowadays as the network society era emerges. The purpose of this research is to explore the social movement in the network society era through an Instagram account, @ketimbang.ngemis.yogyakarta along with the message reception among the Instagram users. Using Stuart Hall’s theory of message reception, this study employed snowball as the technique sampling. After analyzing five posts on @ketimbang.ngemis.yogyakarta Instagram account and having an interview with eight informants, there were two conclusions. It is found that there is a shift in the model of social movement. In the past, social movements were dominated by demonstrations, in which a group of people gathered in a particular place, and relied on oratory skills. Meanwhile, at present, many social movements have made use of social media, one of which is Instagram. The photos in Instagram are used to show marginalized groups which can attract sympathy, empathy, and attention of social media users as an initial stage to the social movement. Moreover, the social media users tend to be a negotiated code type in the reception of social movement message.

The article discusses a new method of automatic vehicle identification system (AVIS) based on the developed system of vehicle traffic control using matrix QR-code, which solves the problem of segmentation of license plates and signs of different formats (signs of the QR-code type with a different number of characters). The system has been created in order to recognize segmented characters from the same input sets that have the same size without overlapping letters and sets of numbers. It is proposed to apply a method for recognizing non-standard characters, based on the use of a mixed pattern method, the degree of compliance. Based on testing of 100 samples of templates and signs, experiments and images taken in real conditions of vehicle operation, it can be stated, that this method provides a recognition accuracy of 80.4%., for the mixed pattern method, it takes 1.7 seconds, and for the compliance templates it takes 0.75 second to perform the recognition operation when determining the adequacy of the application of the mixed method.

Low-voltage amplifiers of telescopic type based on CMOS technology with design norms of 180 nm and 60 nm are investigated. It is established that the best characteristics of nonlinearity in the frequency range up to 250 MHz have amplifiers manufactured by technology with design standards of 180 nm. It is shown that amplifiers of the folded CAS-code type with a supply voltage of 2.5-3 V and cascade transistors with maximum permissible interelectrode voltages of 1.2-1.8 V can degrade and even catastrophically fail when exposed to TKCH. Technical solutions for calibration of bias and gain equalization of channels in the creation of 4-channel 12-14-bit ADC with conversion frequency up to 1 GHz and 0.5 GHz are considered. It is shown that the multi-chip use of this type of ADC in the form of microassemblies allows to achieve typical values of integral nonlinearity, signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range.
