The main purpose of this study is to develop an understanding of the trainers' perceptions of competency and training needs related to professional skills in accordance with professional experience and academic education. The sample included 76 judo trainers who answered a questionnaire that included a measure that focused on the perceptions of competency and another on training needs. An exploratory factor analysis was used with the maximum probability factor (Oblimin) to determine emerging factors. A comparison of the Coaches ' concepts was made in the training experience and the academic background of the Coaches, where multiple comparisons were applied using ANOVA and Tukey. Three main areas of skills were done: skills related to annual planning; skills related to practice and competition; and personal education and training skills. Coach es' perceptions of their expertise were affected, with low-level trainers classifying themselves at lower levels of efficiency and more training needs; and higher-education Coaches in physical education were more efficient than mid-level trainers. Finally, most trainers consider them as efficient as they have indicated the training needs to be provided, which brings important feedback to the education of trainers. This suggests that trainers are an increasing their knowledge and competence in a wide range of areas that should be considered in future training of trainers programs, also to ensure the quality of education and training in the different level of physical and sports education institutes of the Algerian universities.

Purpose:To investigate the physical qualities that differentiate playing minutes in international-level women’s rugby sevens players.Methods:Twenty-four national-level female rugby sevens players underwent measurements of anthropometry, acceleration, speed, lower- and upper-body strength, lower-body power, and aerobic fitness. Playing minutes in international competition were used to differentiate players into 2 groups, a high- or low-playing-minutes group. Playing minutes were related to team selection, which was determined by the coaching staff. Playing minutes were therefore used to differentiate performance levels.Results:Players in the high-playing-minutes group (≥70 min) were older (mean ± SD 24.3 ± 3.1 vs 21.2 ± 4.3 y, P = .05, effect size [ES] = 0.77 ± 0.66, 90% confidence limit) and had greater experience in a national-training-center environment (2.4 ± 0.8 vs 1.7 ± 0.9 y, P = .03, ES = 0.83 ± 0.65), faster 1600-m time (374.5 ± 20.4 vs 393.5 ± 29.8 s, P = .09, ES = –0.70 ± 0.68), and greater 1-repetition-maximum upper-body strength (bench press 68.4 ± 6.3 vs 62.2 ± 8.1 kg, P = .07, ES = 0.80 ± 0.70, and neutral-grip pull-up 84.0 ± 8.2 vs 79.1 ± 5.4 kg, P = .12, ES = 0.68 ± 0.72) than athletes who played fewer minutes. Age (rs = .59 ± ~.28), training experience (rs = .57 ± ~.29), bench press (r = .44 ± ~.36), and 1600-m time (r = –.43 ± ~.34) were significantly associated with playing minutes. Neutral-grip pull-up and bench press contributed significantly to a discriminant analysis. The average squared canonical correlation was .46. The discriminant analysis predicted 7 of 9 and 6 of 10 high- and low-playing-minutes athletes, respectively.Conclusions:Age, training experience, upper-body strength, and aerobic fitness differentiated athlete playing minutes in international women’s rugby sevens.

Background: There are currently no national standards for clinical electromyography (EMG) training for residents in neurology and physiatry in Canada. The purpose of this study was to obtain demographic and qualitative data pertaining to EMG residency training in Canada, with the goal of facilitating discourse that could lead to national standards for EMG training. Methods: An online survey was distributed to senior neurology and physiatry residents (post-graduate years 3-5), at seven tertiary Canadian centres. The study authors, who are trainees and consultants with a broad range of EMG expertise (junior and senior resident, clinical neuromuscular fellows, senior physiatrist and neuromuscular neurologists), developed pertinent demographic and qualitative questions. Results: Thirty-eight residents completed the survey (23 neurology, 15 physiatry). There was inter-program variation in quantity of the training experience, content of the curriculum, access to expertise (including technologists) and goals for future training and practice. Similarly, differences were identified between the training experiences of neurology and physiatry residents. Conclusions: Inter-program variability in EMG training was identified. Additionally, differences were identified between neurology and physiatry resident training. This data provides evidence of training discrepancies across the country and can be used to establish national training standards for EMG in Canada.

ABSTRACTHuman skeletal muscle fibers exist across a continuum of slow → fast-twitch. The amount of each fiber type (FT) influences muscle performance but remains largely unexplored in elite athletes, particularly from strength/power sports. To address this nescience, vastus lateralis (VL) biopsies were performed on World/Olympic (female, n=6, “WCF”) and National-caliber (female, n=9, “NCF”; and male, n=6, “NCM”) American weightlifters. Participant accolades included 3 Olympic Games, 19 World Championships, 25 National records, and >170 National/International medals. Samples were analyzed for myosin heavy chain (MHC) content via SDS-PAGE using two distinct techniques: single fiber (SF) distribution (%) and homogenate (HG) composition. These athletes displayed the highest MHC IIa concentrations ever reported in healthy VL (23±9% I, 5±3% I/IIa, 67±13% IIa, and 6±10% IIa/IIx), with WCF expressing a notable 71±17% (NCF=67±8%, NCM=63±16%). The heavyweights accounted for 91% of the MHC IIa/IIx fibers. When compared to SF, HG overestimated MHC I (23±9 vs. 31±9%) and IIx (0±0 vs. 3±6%) by misclassifying I/IIa fibers as I and IIa/IIx fibers as IIx. These findings suggest athlete caliber (World vs. National), training experience, and body mass determine FT% more than sex and refutes the common pronouncement that women possess more slow and fewer fast-twitch fibers than men. Our results also show the abundance of pure MHC IIa and rarity of IIx in elite strength/power-trained athletes, indicate a potential link between MHC IIa/IIx frequency and body mass, and question the fidelity of HG as a measure of FT% distribution. The extreme fast-twitch abundance partially explains how elite weightlifters generate high forces in rapid time-frames. These data highlight the need for more cellular and molecular muscle research on elite anaerobic athletes.

Making a simulation trainer from a student has been described earlier. When analyzing the training experience (training of trainers) of the teaching staff of universities, two groups were identified. During the training we faced a number of problems. The difficulties that have arisen we explain by the preservation in the education system of a large share of information teaching methods and orientation to the hourly component of disciplines. A step-by-step system of training trainers of simulation training from existing teachers is justified if there is a voluntary involvement in this process.

AimsTo investigate whether the General Medical Council (GMC) National Training Surveys (NTS) can be analysed to develop a plan of action that improves postgraduate training.BackgroundAs part of its role in quality assurance of medical training, the GMC conducts an annual survey of trainers and trainees. The Doctors in training survey, part of the NTS, consists of 70 questions which are grouped into 18 indicators of quality. At Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, we were keen to use the comprehensive data in the NTS to improve training. We analysed each question to create a plan of action to improve the quality of training.MethodWe used data from the online reporting tool to calculate the scores for each question in the 2018 NTS. Taking into account the impact of year-on-year changes in the content of the survey, we examined the score, change from 2017 to 2018, and difference between the score and indicator mean to identify poorly-performing questions. Other questions with clear potential for further improvement were also highlighted. A plan of action was produced by the Leadership and Education Fellow and Director of Medical Education.Result29 actions were identified. The most common were to ensure that information (e.g. job descriptions, professional opportunities) was accessible to trainees (8 actions); liaise with other teams (e.g. Human Resources, Safety team) (6); discuss issues with or provide information to trainers (5); discuss with trainees to contextualise survey results within their experiences (4); and ensure that information was delivered at induction (3).To implement these actions, we conducted a workshop for trainers and held feedback meetings with trainees. 76.5% of trainers (13/17) and 88.5% of trainees (23/26) surveyed following these respective events agreed or strongly agreed that the NTS can be used to improve the training experience. A presentation on making the most of the placement was added to trainee induction and was rated excellent or good by all respondents (28/28). Posters were also produced to disseminate information. In the subsequent NTS, there was an improvement in SABP's performance in 12/18 indicators in the Doctors in training survey, with one green flag denoting performance in the top quartile of trusts nationally.ConclusionThe NTS can be analysed to create a plan of action with elements that trainers and trainees feel can improve their experience. Our model demonstrates the potential for using NTS data to plan quality improvement in training.

The system of relationships and emotions that develop in the teaching-learning process define the complexity of teachers' education and pose the challenge of bringing out the emotional and affective culture that guides school life. Several studies on teaching practices highlight the tendency to refer to technical aspectsas a key dimension of professionalism, rather than on relational and emotional dimensions that can promote the relationship with student. The creative and unprecedented reconfiguration of professional practice is configured as the outcome of a reflexive process of subjective construction and de-construction of the profession and its development.The paper proposes a reflective training experience, which involved 76 teachers, focused on emotional and relational dimensions on teaching and based on the use of the narrative-autobiographical instruments (diary, narrative, metaphor). The results achieved in the monitoring phase show that the training offered an opportunity to reflect on oneself and one's personal and professional experience, starting from the use of alternative perspectives and interpretations than those that are already in use
