The formation of nitrate and chloride as end-products of chloramination (combined chlorination) was investigated at pH ranging between 6.9 and 9.6 at 25°C. The experimental results comprised concentration-time profiles of combined chlorine residuals along with nitrate and chloride. Nitrite, if present, was always below the detectibility limit of the analytical method used (25 ppb). Mass balances on chlorine species depicted that chloride formed during the slow decay of combined chlorine residuals does not account for all the chlorine lost. This substantiates the formation of other reaction end-products which are yet to be identified. A kinetic model for chloramination is proposed based on the kinetic data obtained in this study.

Abstract:Gd2GaSbO7:Cr3+,Yb3+ phosphors with efficient broadband NIR emission were prepared by solid-state reaction. Under the excitation of 448 nm, Gd2GaSbO7:Cr3+ (GGS:Cr3+) phosphor exhibits a broadband NIR emission band centered at approximately...

ABSTRACTWe report on a high pressure study of emission from a series of GaInP(ordered)/GaAs heterostructures. A so-called “deep emission” band at 1.46 eV is observed in all our samples. At high excitation power, quantum well emission emerges in only one structure where thin GaP layers are inserted on both sides of the GaAs well. From the pressure dependent emission in this sample we have determined its band alignments. The role of the GaP layers in suppressing the deep emission is elucidated.

High density zinc oxide nanorods with uniform size were synthesized on (100) silicon substrate by vapor-phase transport method. The scanning electron microscopy images reveal that the nanorods have an average diameter of about 400 nm. The X-ray diffraction pattern demonstrates the wurtzite crystalline structure of the ZnO nanorods growing along [0001] direction. The single-photon excited photoluminescence presents a strong ultraviolet emission band at 394 nm and a weak visible emission band at 600 nm. When the ZnO nanorods were respectively pumped by various wavelength lasers from 520 nm to 700 nm, two-photon excited ultraviolet photoluminescence was observed. The dependence of the two-photon excited photoluminescence intensity on the excitation wavelength and power was investigated in detail.

New indeno[1,2-c]pyran-3-ones bearing different substituents at the pyran moiety were synthesized and their photophysical properties were investigated. In solution all compounds were found to be blue emitters and the trans isomers exhibited significantly higher fluorescence quantum yields (relative to 9,10-diphenylanthracene) as compared to the corresponding cis isomers. The solid-state fluorescence spectra revealed an important red shift of λmax due to intermolecular interactions in the lattice, along with an emission-band broadening, as compared to the solution fluorescence spectra.
