The development of new technologies has had an impact on human behavior and communication from time immemorial. With the growing rate of technological advancement during the past 100 years, the changes have occurred even more rapidly. In an effort to understand the effects of one medium on human behavior and communication, this article explores and synthesizes research that has been conducted over the past 30 years, in what has come to be known as the chatroom. The chatroom, in the form of Internet Relay Chat (IRC), was developed in the late 1980s, and has been growing in popularity ever since. Chatrooms are Web-based platforms that allow synchronous, written communication between two or more interested participants in a forum that is potentially open to other interested participants.

Novel technologies are now being advanced for the purpose of identification and validation of new disease biomarkers. A reliable and useful clinical biomarker must a) come from a readily attainable source, such as blood or urine, b) have sufficient sensitivity to correctly identify affected individuals, c) have sufficient specificity to avoid incorrect labeling of unaffected persons, and d) result in a notable benefit for the patient through intervention, such as survival or life quality improvement. Despite these critical descriptors, the few available FDA-approved biomarkers for cancer do not completely fit this definition and their benefits are limited to a small number of cancers. Ovarian cancer exemplifies the need for a diagnostic biomarker of early stage disease. Symptoms are present but not specific to the disease, delaying diagnosis until an advanced and generally incurable stage in over 70% of affected women. As such, diagnostic intervention in the form of oopherectomy can be performed in the appropriate at-risk population if identified such as with a new accurate, sensitive, and specific biomarker. If early stage disease is identified, the requirement for survival and life quality improvement will be met. One of the new technologies applied to biomarker discovery is tour-de-force analysis of serum peptides and proteins. Optimization of mass spectrometry techniques coupled with advanced bioinformatics approaches has yielded informative biomarker signatures discriminating presence of cancer from unaffected in multiple studies from different groups. Validation and randomized outcome studies are needed to determine the true value of these new biomarkers in early diagnosis, and improved survival and quality of life.

Scientific support provided for activities accomplished by the Federal Service for Surveillance over Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being is considered to be a most significant tool for raising productivity and efficiency of the system functioning. A concept on scientific support provided for Rospotrebnadzor’s organs and authorities in 2021–2025 focuses on creating an integral, coordinated, efficient, stable, and adaptive system of scientific support provided for activities aimed at securing sanitary-epidemiologic welfare of the population. A peculiar feature of this concept for 2021–2025 is an emphasis on science-intensive analysis technologies and predictions based on digital informational and analytical support provided for strategic and operative decisions on minimizing risks and damage to population health. Another emphasis is on significance of fundamental hygienic research. The concept sets the tasks to develop scientific grounds for cellular and sub-cellular technologies applied to diagnose health disorders under exposure to occupational and environmental factors as well as lifestyle-related ones. It is necessary to create a personified medical and preventive platform for preserving life and health; the platform should be based on risk assessing, monitoring and prediction, mathematical modeling of processes occurring in a body, and the latest data on physiology and toxicology. The Concept also covers issues related to developing innovative technologies for preventing and rehabilitating diseases associated with environmental and occupational factors basing on science-intensive cross-disciplinary studies and the most up-to-date hardware and software complexes. More enhanced hygienic and epidemiologic research is an extremely important and promising vector in scientific development. The Concept outlines the necessity to promptly make new technologies available to experts who are responsible for control, surveillance, inspections, licensing, and other activities within Rospotrebnadzor system. The Concept on scientific support is being implemented via «Scientific substantiation for the national system for providing sanitary-epidemiologic welfare, health risk management, and raising life quality of the RF population», a specialized scientific-research program for 2021–2025. More than 80% resources allocated within the specialized program will be assigned for solving the most vital tasks and preventing future threats. Finding solutions to major strategic tasks set by the Concept and the specialized scientific program will allow achieving greater contributions made by organs and authorities of the sanitary-epidemiologic service into scientific, technological, and socioeconomic development of the country including a contribution into developing and implementing competitive scientific-technical products.

Abstract. The increasing usage of new technologies implies changes for personality research. First, human behavior becomes measurable by digital data, and second, digital manifestations to some extent replace conventional behavior in the analog world. This offers the opportunity to investigate personality traits by means of digital footprints. In this context, the investigation of the personality trait sensation seeking attracted our attention as objective behavioral correlates have been missing so far. By collecting behavioral markers (e.g., communication or app usage) via Android smartphones, we examined whether self-reported sensation seeking scores can be reliably predicted. Overall, 260 subjects participated in our 30-day real-life data logging study. Using a machine learning approach, we evaluated cross-validated model fit based on how accurate sensation seeking scores can be predicted in unseen samples. Our findings highlight the potential of mobile sensing techniques in personality research and show exemplarily how prediction approaches can help to foster an increased understanding of human behavior.

The use of traditional marketing tools with the purpose to increase effectiveness and efficacy within organizations has been studied among different authors. This topic known as internal marketing (IM) starts defining employees as internal clients to whom the organization must satisfy a group of needs and expectations to achieve their engagement and motivation on work, looking forward to increased productivity and competitively within the organization. Among the most important aspects and maybe the least discussed on IM are the information technologies (IT), in first place, as a method to ease the work increasing the labor life quality (LLQ). Furthermore, the information technologies are a vital channel to develop an internal e-communication (internal electronic communication) effective strategy. In both cases, the new technologies give enormous possibilities as supporting strategies to IM, allowing the organization to have a direct and permanent relationship with its workers in any place, important aspect to have a successful integration, and participation on the global economy. The present article talks about the challenges and possibilities that offer the IT as IM support, mainly, being an important channel to the internal e-communication.

AbstractProviding quality public housing is one of the main goals of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government. This paper assesses the level of satisfaction with public housing offered by the UAE government to its citizens based on the physical characteristics and traditional social aspects of the housing unit, urban design, and social environment in the residential area, whereas also their contribution to the residents' life quality under overall satisfaction with the place of living. At the same time, the study provides access to sustainability measurements applied at both the environmental and social levels within the Estidama accredited national rating system. The survey results of two residential complexes in Abu Dhabi show that the majority of residents are mostly satisfied, although the overall level of satisfaction with the functionality of the building and public facilities provided was generally higher than that related to the social environment in the residential district. The research focused on the application of new technologies that increase the level of sustainability in future housing projects.

Malaysian government aims to transform rural areas into economic focal points, improves rural livelihoods, living environment and narrows the life quality gaps between those living in urban and rural areas. Inspired by the government directive-aspirations and the emergence of new technologies in national and global rural practices, this paper attempts to discuss the formulation of a framework for rural development in Malaysia based on a modern approach. The process undertakes two main stages, namely focused literature study and review of the national existing policies and strategies to identify the key assessment elements and criteria for modern rural development. The next stage was to conduct an expert view survey to validate the developed elements and criteria, and then formulate a Malaysia modern rural development framework (FMRD). The FMRD was finally formulated by incorporating the elements and criteria promoted in the national policies and strategies and integrating them with smart technologies and ICT practices to reflect a holistic approach for rural issues. This paper concludes that the FMRD is a timely approach for the rural assessment measure to maximise its performance towards the future niches in Malaysia - rural liveability-resilient-and-smart.

Ramaswamy (1996) suggested that companies that provide services normally conceive of a process as a sequence of activities needed to perform transactions that help to provide their services. To define processes is often problematic involving a range of complexities relating to customers, human behavior, and company structure. To organize the company around business processes, it is necessary to focus on external customers because business processes usually start and end with them. Processes have a line of activity which begins with an understanding and assessment of what the external customer wants and finishes with the external customer gaining what he or she needs and requests. The customer is always central within service organizations structured by process, when the key operational objective is to offer the customer more value in less time and with less cost. This chapter examines four small companies that attempted to do this through the introduction of new technologies.
