Computer games offer an extremely engaging experience and are an overwhelmingly popular pastime for today’s youth. As such, they make an attractive medium for educators seeking to utilise new media to create new engaging learning experiences and provide for those with special needs. Effective integration of game-play and education is extremely difficult to achieve. This problem has plagued the educational games industry since its inception. This chapter will examine this problem with reference to a study which attempts to utilise the motivational power of computer games to aid the education of some of the most challenging students; children who are exhibiting behavioural disorders (oppositional defiant behaviour, attention deficit). Such children can find it almost impossible to focus on traditional educational activities but will give the right computer game their full attention for extended periods. Computer games can engage these children, but can this power be utilised for more than entertainment?

Mental health has become a big problem in Indonesia. Adolescents are a category that is prone to stress, and is often handled inappropriately by themselves, relatives, or parents. Stress is still considered a trivial matter for most Indonesians. In fact, stress is one of the triggers for various kinds of physical and psychological ailments. The lack of interesting reading for teenagers about stress makes this phenomenon still difficult to get the first treatment before it continues to an undesirable stage. The purpose of this design is to create an illustrated book that discusses stress information with the content as simple as possible and attractive so that it is easily understood by adolescents. This design uses themethod design thinking in order to get the right problem-solving solution in designing the work. There are two media in the design, namely primary media, illustrated books, information about stress and secondary media, namely x-banners and merchandise. By designing this illustration book, it is hoped that it can become a new media choice as informative reading about stress.

The application of the State aid rules to public service broadcasting has never been a straightforward exercise for the European Commission (hereafter the Commission). The picture became more complex in the digital era in light of the expansion of public broadcasting organizations to new media markets. Yet, in spite of the challenges it faced, the Commission has not limited itself to a marginal compatibility assessment checking solely whether the provision of related services outweighs the harm to competition. Through its decision-making and the adoption of a soft law instrument, the Broadcasting Communication, the Commission gradually managed to inject into national schemes supporting broadcasting activities its own perspective of “good” State aid policy. This chapter discusses the impact that the Commission State aid practice has had on national systems and reflects on whether the latter has struck the right balance between the conflicting values involved, namely competition and public service broadcasting. The chapter argues that, while in several instances the Commission went beyond the Treaty letter, its control over relevant State measures has contributed substantially to ensuring a level playing field between public broadcasters and commercial undertakings operating in the wider context of the media market.

However, there was little knowledge demonstrated in the uses of the wiki, dejero/bambuser etc (38% and 29% respectively). Also, challenges plaguing journalism practice in Nigeria include inadequate staff training, epileptic telecommunication network and internet server problem as a major problem (among others). This study, therefore, among others; recommends that the government provides the needed social infrastructures, which the media need to operate. In this sense, the government should improve on the power supply situation so that ICT facilities can function under the right environment and adequate training for right knowledge and use of technological applications used for attaining the standards of international media best practices.

This study explores the online public's reaction to the National Security Agency's surveillance Prism programs in light of the confidential government document leakage to the public on June 7, 2013. Through an in-depth qualitative analysis of top recommended user comments to the news article published in The Guardian describing the technicalities of the Prism program, public perceptions of civil liberties like free speech in new media communication are explored. Overarching themes and salient discourses on the public's understanding of their democratic rights emerged in the analysis. The findings revealed a number of competing views of liberty, and while the majority of the users opposed government surveillance and agreed it was in violation of their rights, further examination revealed a temptation to withdraw from using new media communication susceptible to government surveillance, thereby hindering the Internet's ability to act as a valuable arena for public debate as afforded by new media communication
