Background: In order to improve the efficiency of fault treatment of mining motor, the method of model construction is used to construct the type of kernel function based on the principle of vector machine classification and the optimization method of parameters. Methodology: One-to-many algorithm is used to establish two kinds of support vector machine models for fault diagnosis of motor rotor of crusher. One of them is to obtain the optimal parameters C and g based on the input samples of the instantaneous power fault characteristic data of some motor rotors which have not been processed by rough sets. Patents on machine learning have also shows their practical usefulness in the selction of the feature for fault detection. Results: The results show that the instantaneous power fault feature extracted from the rotor of the crusher motor is obtained by the cross validation method of grid search k-weights (where k is 3) and the final data of the applied Gauss radial basis penalty parameter C and the nuclear parameter g are obtained. Conclusion: The model established by the optimal parameters is used to classify and diagnose the sample of instantaneous power fault characteristic measurement of motor rotor. Therefore, the classification accuracy of the sample data processed by rough set is higher.

Introduction: Little consideration is given to the referral and uptake of available supportive services after distress screening. However, identifying the reasons for accepting or refusing help is mandatory for implementing a screening policy. The present study explored the practical usefulness of and potential barriers to the application of distress management. Methods: 406 cancer patients were consecutively selected and asked to complete the Distress Thermometer (DT) and Problem Check List (PL). All patients with a DT score ≥6 were invited for a post-DT telephone interview with a trained psychologist. Results: The 112 patients who refused to take part were more often older, retired, at a more advanced stage of illness, and with no previous experience of psychological intervention with respect to those who accepted. Of the 78 patients with a score ≥6 who were referred to the Psycho-Oncology Service, 65.4% accepted the telephone interview. Twenty-two patients rejected the initial invitation immediately for various reasons including logistic difficulties, physical problems, and feeling embarrassed about opening up to a psychologist. Conclusions: Our study confirms that screening per sé is insufficient to deal with the problem of distress and that more emphasis should be placed on implementing referral and treatment.

Probabilistic Point Clouds Registration (PPCR) is an algorithm that, in its multi-iteration version, outperformed state-of-the-art algorithms for local point clouds registration. However, its performances have been tested using a fixed high number of iterations. To be of practical usefulness, we think that the algorithm should decide by itself when to stop, on one hand to avoid an excessive number of iterations and waste computational time, on the other to avoid getting a sub-optimal registration. With this work, we compare different termination criteria on several datasets, and prove that the chosen one produces very good results that are comparable to those obtained using a very large number of iterations, while saving computational time.

SummaryThis paper contributes to the literature on the use of anonymized firm level data by reporting results from a replication study. To test for the practical usefulness of anonymized data I selected two of my published papers based on different cross sections of firm data. The data used there were anonymized by micro aggregation. I replicated the analyses reported in the papers with the anonymized data, and then compared the results to those produced with the original data. Frequently, the reported levels of statistical significance differ. Furthermore, statistically significant coefficients sometimes differ by order of magnitude. Therefore, at least for the moderate sample sizes used here micro-aggregated firm data should not be considered as a tool for empirical research.

AbstractWe propose an effective method to control the local hardness and morphology of a metal surface by tilting the incident angle of a horn during ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM). In this study, surface treatment using UNSM was performed on an S45C specimen and a parameter study was conducted for optimization. The process parameters were the feeding rate, static load, striking force, and processing angle (Ф). In particular, the Ф was analyzed by tilting the horn by 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 40°, and 45° to understand its effect on surface hardness and changes in the morphology. From fundamental experiments, some important phenomena were observed, such as grain-microstructure changes along the processing and thickness directions. Furthermore, to verify the practical usefulness of this study, a flat and a hemispherical specimen of S45C material were treated using UNSM with various values of Ф. A significant change in hardness (an increase from 2–45%) and a gradual hardness gradient on the tested specimens could be easily realized by the proposed method. Therefore, we believe that the method is effective for controlling the mechanical hardness of a metal surface.

This research is aimed at developing a document content analysis method to be applied in studies of standardization and technology development. The proposed method integrates two theoretical frameworks: the co-evolutionary technology development framework and the “D-N-S” (Design, Negotiation, Sense-making) framework for anticipatory standardizing. At the backdrop of complex and diversified landscape of science and R&D efforts in the technology domain, and the repeated criticism of the weak link between R&D initiatives and standardization, it is argued that the method offered in this work helps to better understand the internal dynamics of the technology development process at the early stage of standardization or pre-standardization, which, in turn, can help mobilize and direct the R&D initiatives. To demonstrate the practical usefulness of the proposed method, this paper conducts a content analysis of the research contributions presented in the COST Action IC0905 “Techno-Economic Regulatory Framework for Radio Spectrum Access for Cognitive Radio/ Software Defined Radio” (COST-TERRA).
