Who, How, and What? Quality of Life and Psychosocial Cancer Research

Post-treatment adherence to the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) lifestyle recommendations were associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL), fatigue, and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors. In a prospective cohort among CRC survivors (n = 459), repeated home-visits were performed at 6 weeks, 6, 12, and 24 months post-treatment. Dietary intake, body composition, sedentary behaviour, and physical activity were assessed to construct a lifestyle score based on adherence to seven 2018 WCRF/AICR recommendations. Longitudinal associations of the lifestyle score with HRQoL, fatigue, and CIPN were analysed by confounder-adjusted linear mixed models. A higher lifestyle score was associated with better physical functioning and less activity-related fatigue, but not with CIPN. Adjustment for physical activity substantially attenuated observed associations, indicating its importance in the lifestyle score with regards to HRQoL. In contrast, adjustment for body composition and alcohol inflated observed associations, indicating that both recommendations had a counteractive influence within the lifestyle score. Our findings suggest that CRC survivors benefit from an overall adherence to the WCRF/AICR lifestyle recommendations in terms of HRQoL and fatigue, but not CIPN. Specific recommendations have a varying influence on these associations, complicating the interpretation and requiring further study.

Prostate cancer is the most common non–skin-related cancer in men. With advances in technology, the care and treatment for men with this disease continues to become more complex. Large databases offer researchers a unique opportunity to conduct prostate cancer research in various areas, and provide important information that helps patients and providers determine prognosis after treatment. Furthermore, the studies using these databases may provide information on how side effects from various treatments can affect one's quality of life. Finally, information from these datasets can help to identify factors that determine why patients receive the treatments they do. Despite this, these databases are not without limitations. In this review, we discuss various available, national, multicenter, and institutional databases in the context of prostate cancer research, citing numerous important studies that have impacted on our understanding of prostate cancer outcomes.

Although governments invest billions of dollars in cancer research, cancer remains one of the major causes of death worldwide (Liu et al., 2007). During the last decades, outstanding results have been attained in fundamental cancer biology but, unfortunately, they have not been translated in even distantly comparable progressions in the clinic. The main reason for this gap being the inability to administer therapeutic agents so that they can reach target cells without or with minimal side-effects (Ferrari, 2005). Today, scientists are faced with the recognition that very few molecules reach the desired locations and thus fail to selectively reach the target cells. Consequently, patients experience a very poor quality of life (Ferrari, 2004; Ferrari, 2005; Chan, 2006).

Background: According to data from the "Endometrial Cancer Report" by the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRFI), endometrial cancer is the sixth most common malignancy in the world and is the largest cancer in female organs, after cervical cancer. This incidence is increasing every year, it is predicted to increase about 5% of new cases each year. The main prognostic factors of endometrial cancer are determined by the histological type, stage, degree, differentiation of the tumor, invasive myometrial level and increase in lympho-vascular invasion. In addition to determining the histopathological factors, the prognosis is also determined from the clinical patient. Several studies have shown certain clinical factors also improve the condition and prognosis of the disease. Prognosis of this disease with the quality of life of patients becomes an interesting topic to discuss. Besides that quality of life is also a measure of therapeutic success. The better the prognosis of a disease, the better the quality of life, the higher the success rate of therapy (Greimel, 2010).Objective: To know correlation between clinicohistopathological and quality of life in patients with endometrial cancer after undergoing surgery at Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta.Method: The research is analytic with cross sectional approach. Patients with endometrial cancer who have undergone total hysterectomy and bisalpingoophorectomy surgery are assessed for their quality of life through interviews and filling out questionnaires in the EORTC QLQ-C 30 and QLQ-EN 24 modules.Results and Discussion: This study, most people with endometrial cancer aged 55-65 years were 34 people (42%) and diagnosed after menopause with a range of age >55 years as many as 43 people (53.1%). This study cannot prove the hypothesis that age, parity, body mass index, type of histopathology and KGB involvement have a relationship with the quality of life of cancer patients (p >0.05). But in contrast to the stage of early cancer (OR 3.17, p=0.044 (CI 95% 1.03-9.75)) and good and moderate differentiation (OR 4.471, p=0.023 (CI 95% 1.23-16.24)) have a significant relationship with quality of life.Conclusion: Clinicohistopathological factors (cancer stage and tumor differentiation) have a correlation with the quality of life at patients with postoperative endometrial cancer in  Sardjito Hospital Keywords: Endometrial cancer; clinicohistopathological factors; quality of life
