Abstract Background: Oil and protein content, as well as fatty acid composition, are important quality traits in peanut. Elucidating the genetic mechanisms underlying these traits may help researchers to obtain improved cultivars through molecular breeding techniques.Results: Whole-genome resequencing of an RIL population of 318 lines was performed to construct a high-density linkage map and identify QTLs for peanut quality. The map, containing 4561 bin markers, covered a length of 2032.39 cM with an average marker density of 0.45 cM. A total of 109 QTLs for oil content, protein content, and fatty acid compositions were mapped on the 18 peanut chromosomes. The QTL qA05.1 was detected in four different environments and exhibited a major phenotypic effect on the content of oil, proteins, and six fatty acids. The genomic region spanned by qA05.1, corresponding to a physical interval of approximately 1.50 Mb, contains two polymorphic SNPs between two parents that could cause missense mutations. The two SNP sites were employed as KASP markers and validated using lines with extremely high and low oil contents; these sites may be useful in the marker-assisted breeding of peanut varieties with high oil contents.Conclusions: A high-density genetic map with 4561 bin markers was constructed, and a major and pleiotropic QTL located on LG05 was stably detected for oil, protein and fatty acids across four different environments.

Processing of wasted cooking oil uses the photocatalyst method with metal catalysts and zeolites to reduce organic compounds. In this study, researchers used activated charcoal from durian skin and titanium dioxide embedded in a polyamide membrane as an adsorbent which was used as a medium for processing wasted cooking oil. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of processing used cooking oil using a membrane of polyamide/titanium dioxide/durian peels activated charcoal on changes in the characteristics of wasted cooking oil. Based on the results of research on the processing of wasted cooking oil with a membrane of polyamide/titanium dioxide/activated charcoal from durian peels, there was an increase in water content by 10.21%, a decrease in free fatty acids by 33.75%, a decrease in the peroxide number by 18.33%. Used cooking oil that has passed through the membrane has a decrease in %Transmission for the functional groups of C-H alkenes, C-O esters, and C-H alkanes. In the analysis of the compound content by mass spectrophotometry, it was found that the content of the methyl ester compound with the C17 and C19 chains was close to the composition of the biodiesel constituents.

The number of people who smoke has increased in recent years, and the incidence of smoking-related diseases increases annually. This study was conducted to explore whether smoking affects diseases via changes in the gut microbiota. We enrolled 33 smokers and 121 non-smokers. We collected fecal samples from all participants and performed whole-genome sequencing. Smoking significantly affected the gut microbiota. At the phylum through genus levels, the smokers’ microbiotas showed slight changes compared with those of the non-smokers. The α- and β-diversities differed significantly between the smokers and non-smokers, and the smokers’ gut microbiota compositions differed significantly from those of the non-smokers. At the species level, the relative abundances of Ruminococcus gnavus (P=0.00197) and Bacteroides vulgatus (P=0.0468) were significantly greater in the smokers than in the non-smokers, while the relative abundances of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (P=0.0000052) and Akkermansia muciniphila (P=0.0057) were significantly lower in the smokers. Smoking increases inflammation in the body by inducing an increased abundance of proinflammatory bacteria. Non-smokers had higher abundances of anti-inflammatory microorganisms than did smokers; these microorganisms can produce short-chain fatty acids, which inhibit inflammation.
