Key factors and characteristics of successful resource parents who care for older youth: A systematic review of research

BACKGROUND Promoting safety and health awareness and mitigating risks are of paramount importance to companies in high-risk industries. Yet, there are very few studies that have synthesized findings from existing online workplace safety and health literature to identify what are the key factors that are related to (a) safety awareness, (b) safety risks, (c) health awareness, and (d) health risks. OBJECTIVE As one of the first systematic reviews in the area of workplace health and safety, this study aims to identify the factors related to safety and health awareness as well as risks, and systematically map these factors within three levels: organizational, cultural, and individual level. Also, this review aims to assess the impact of these workplace safety and health publications in both academic (e.g., academic databases, Mendeley, and PlumX) and non-academic settings (e.g., social media platform). METHODS The systematic review was conducted in line with procedures recommended by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). First, Proquest, ScienceDirect and Scopus were identified as suitable databases for the systematic review. Second, after inputting search queries related to safety and health awareness and risks, the articles were evaluated based on a set of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Third, the factors identified in the included articles were coded systematically. Fourth, the research team assessed the impact of the articles through a combination of traditional and new metric analysis methods: citation count, Altmetric Attention Score, Mendeley readers count, usage count, and capture count. RESULTS Out of a total of 4,831 articles retrieved from the three databases, 51 articles were included in the final sample and were systematically coded. The results revealed six categories of organizational (management commitment, management support, organizational safety communication, safety management systems, physical work environment, and organizational environment), two cultural (interpersonal support and organizational culture), and four individual (perception, motivation, attitude and behavior) level factors that relate to safety and health awareness and risk. In terms of impact, the relationship between citation count and the various metrics measuring academic activity (e.g., Mendeley readers, usage count, and capture count) were mostly significant while the relationship between citation count and Altmetric Attention Score was non-significant. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a macro view of the current state of workplace safety and health research and gives scholars an indication on some of the key factors of safety and health awareness and risks. Researchers should also be cognizant that while their work may receive attention from the scholarly community, it is important to tailor their communication messages for the respective industries they are studying to maximize the receptivity and impact of their findings. Trials can be defined as prospective human research studies to test the effectiveness and safety of interventions, such as medications, surgeries, medical devices and other interventions for the management of patient care. Statistics is an important and powerful tool in trials. Inappropriately designed trials and/or inappropriate statistical analysis produce unreliable results, with limited clinical use. The aim of this systematic literature review is to identify, describe and synthesise factors contributing to or influencing the statistical planning, design, conduct, analysis and reporting of trials. This protocol will describe the methodological approach taken for the following: conducting a systematic and comprehensive search for relevant articles, applying eligibility criteria for the inclusion of such articles, extracting data and information, appraising the quality of the articles, and thematically synthesizing the data to illuminate the key factors influencing statistical aspects of trials.

Abstract Improving our understanding of how disengagement and deradicalisation from terrorism and violent extremism occurs has critical real-world implications. A systematic review of the recent literature in this area was conducted in order to develop a more refined and empirically-derived model of the processes involved. After screening more than 83,000 documents, we found 29 research reports which met the minimum quality thresholds. Thematic analysis identified key factors associated with disengagement and deradicalisation processes. Assessing the interactions of these factors produced the Phoenix Model of Disengagement and Deradicalisation which is described in this paper. Also examined are some of the potential policy and practice implications of the Phoenix Model, as are avenues for future research in this area.

Purpose As a frequently observed business phenomenon, the use of product scarcity to improve a product’s market performance has received increasing attention from both academics and practitioners. The resulting literature has covered a wide variety of issues based on various theories, using different research methods, in a diverse range of settings. However, this diversity also makes it difficult to grasp the core themes and findings, and to see the outstanding knowledge gaps. This paper aims to review previous studies on the use of product scarcity in marketing and identifies new directions for future research. Design/methodology/approach A systematic review was conducted to identify and analyse 66 research papers published in business and management journals between 1970 and 2017. Findings The authors examined the underlying theories of scarcity-based marketing, and developed a conceptual framework that describes the key factors of product scarcity and how they influence both consumers and the market. They also highlighted some key achievements in modelling the processes involved in using product scarcity in marketing. Originality/value This analysis of the identified papers suggests that there are substantial gaps in our knowledge of this field, which opens up new paths for future research. For future research, the authors identified three directions aimed at: addressing the practical needs of firms in understanding product scarcity; guiding the implementation of scarcity-based strategies; and measuring, monitoring and predicting the level of product scarcity and its impacts during implementation.

Abstract Social and sustainable initiatives generally start small and need to scale to create substantial impact. Our systematic review of 133 articles develops a better understanding of this scaling process. From the literature, we conceptualize impact as the result of two different pathways: ‘scaling out’ (extending geographical space or volume) and ‘scaling up’ (influence on public discourses, political agendas and legislation). The review identified strategy, actor characteristics and institutional environment as key factors for scaling. The literature indicates that for strategy a focus on open structures generates speed and higher impact, but we also found critical views on this. The literature shows that the actor characteristics such as the ambition to scale, equal focus on the economic and the social logic, entrepreneurial skills and leadership are positively related to the level of impact. The institutional environment influences actor characteristics and strategy choices and also has a direct effect on the level of social and sustainable impact.

The aim of this paper is to examine students’ performance in a computation-based course by evaluating the effects of key factors including sketching, visualization resources provided to them during the lectures, their attendance and tutors’ experience. A systematic review was conducted including 192 articles published during January 2010 to December 2019. Further, a case study has been conducted in which 633 students from non-engineering backgrounds were taught a core course of construction over three-yearly sessions from 2017 to 2019. The performance has been assessed through two quizzes of 10% weight each, assignment of 40% weight and a final exam with 30% weight in 2017-18 and 40% weight in 2019 were utilized with an attendance criterion of below 75% as low attendance. The statistical result highlights that a clear difference of 14% overall marks exist between the students with less than 75% attendance and the ones with 75% and above in 2017 and a 10% gap in 2018. Students with high marks in sketching secured higher overall marks as compared to others highlighting that the sketching skill is useful to construction students. The findings contribute to the body of education knowledge by evaluating key influential factors and provide a useful benchmark to other educators in the field.

OBJECTIVE Moyamoya angiopathy (MMA) affects the distal internal carotid artery and is designated as moyamoya disease (MMD) when predisposing conditions are absent, or moyamoya syndrome (MMS) when it occurs secondary to other causes. The authors aimed to investigate the reason for this anatomical site predilection of MMA. There is compelling evidence to suggest that MMA is a phenomenon that occurs due to stereotyped mechanobiological processes. Literature regarding MMD and MMS was systematically reviewed to decipher a common pattern relating to the development of MMA. METHODS A systematic review was conducted to understand the pathogenesis of MMA in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. PubMed MEDLINE and Scopus were searched using “moyamoya” and “pathogenesis” as common keywords and specific keywords related to six identified key factors. Additionally, a literature search was performed for MMS using “moyamoya” and “pathogenesis” combined with reported associations. A progressive search of the literature was also performed using the keywords “matrix metalloprotease,” “tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloprotease,” “endothelial cell,” “smooth muscle cell,” “cytokines,” “endothelin,” and “transforming growth factor” to infer the missing links in molecular pathogenesis of MMA. Studies conforming to the inclusion criteria were reviewed. RESULTS The literature search yielded 44 published articles on MMD by using keywords classified under the six key factors, namely arterial tortuosity, vascular angles, wall shear stress, molecular factors, blood rheology/viscosity, and blood vessel wall strength, and 477 published articles on MMS associations. Information obtained from 51 articles that matched the inclusion criteria and additional information derived from the progressive search mentioned above were used to connect the key factors to derive a network pattern of pathogenesis. CONCLUSIONS Based on the available literature, the authors have proposed a unifying theory for the pathogenesis of MMA. The moyamoya phenomenon appears to be the culmination of an interplay of vascular anatomy, hemodynamics, rheology, blood vessel wall strength, and a plethora of intricately linked mechanobiological molecular mediators that ultimately results in the mechanical process of occlusion of the blood vessel, stimulating angiogenesis and collateral blood supply in an attempt to perfuse the compromised brain.

The concept of successful psychopathy has been debated for years, however, there is yet no unified approach to its definition and conceptualisation. Such individuals are said to encompass the core traits associated with psychopathy, whilst continuing to function in society, potentially having superior levels of functioning. This review assimilates the existing literature related to successful psychopathy in the general population. An extensive systematic review was performed using four databases, and two key concepts; namely success and psychopathy. After removing duplicates and articles deemed irrelevant, 180 papers were appraised against the review’s inclusion and exclusion criteria. The remaining 19 papers underwent quality control by two raters. A narrative synthesis was performed. The key factors associated with the successful psychopathy construct were fearlessness, stress immunity, social potency, normal or superior cognitive performance, professional achievement, stable socioeconomic status, leadership, pride, and aversion to punishment during conflict. Inconsistent findings were considered a result of the variations in psychopathy measurements used, and a lack of an agreed definition of success. Recommendations are provided for the establishment of a unified framework, and the need for a moderated measure of successful psychopathy to allow more systematic research into the notion of successful psychopathy in the general populations.

Understanding Industry 4.0 is to assimilate the elements that comprise it and to understand the processes necessary to implement it. The objective of this study was to perform a taxonomy regarding the theme industry 4.0, presenting the main contributions, obstacles and perspective regarding the theme. To reach this goal, this study began with a systematic review through the Theory of the Consolidated Meta-Analytic Approach, presenting the main scientific contributions and key factors of success. In the second part, an interview was conducted, with six researchers in the field of industry 4.0, to discuss the results of the scientific literature. There were nine key factors to the success of industry 4.0 (Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Internet of Things (IOT), Additive Manufacturing, Digital Manufacture (Simulation), Smart Factory, Big Data and Analytics, Cloud Computing, Digital Security and Advanced Robotics) and the major obstacles to implementing these factors. In addition, the opinions of the specialists were evaluated and categorized them by descending hierarchical classification and confirmatory factorial analysis, offering a practical model of implementation.
