The efficiency of many industrial processes, applying steam as heat transfer medium, can be increased by integrating Ruths steam accumulator. This component makes it possible to store surplus steam for consumption at later time, whereby high loading and unloading rates can be realized with this storage type. For improving this storage type in terms of storage capacity and application range a hybrid storage approach is presented. The concept combines a Ruths steam storage with phase change material and electrical heating elements. For a first analysis of the interaction between the Ruths steam accumulator and the phase change material, which surrounds the steam storage vessel, a dynamic model was created. Also, an example which consist of a charging, storing, and discharging phase is presented. The simulation results show a positive impact in terms of storage capacity. Therefore, the hybrid storage concept is a promising approach for integration in industrial processes.

In the current century, a suitable strategy is concerned for optimal consumption of energy, due to limited natural resources and fossil fuels for moving towards sustainable development and environmental protection. Given the rising cost of energy, environmental pollution and the end of fossil fuels, zero-energy buildings became a popular option in today's world. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the design of zero-energy buildings, in order to reduce energy consumption and increase productivity, including plan form, climatic characteristics, materials, coverage etc. The present study collects the features of zero-energy building in Isfahan, which is based on the Emberger Climate View in the arid climate, by examining the books and related writings, field observations and using a descriptive method, in the form of qualitative studies. The results of the research showed that some actions are needed to save energy and, in general, less consumption of renewable energy by considering the climate and the use of natural conditions.

In order to reduce loader engine installed power and save energy, we designed the driving scheme of power system for parallel hybrid loader by Analysis of different way of connection between diesel engine and electric motor. We chose ISG power electric multifunction and super capacitor as the core component to design the Loader auxiliary power system and movable arm cylinder gravitational potential energy recovery system. We established ADVISOR software model of hybrid power Loader, and the simulation results show that diesel engine installed power of the hybrid power Loader is reduced by 21%; fuel consumption is reduced by 9.2%. Through optimize control strategy, the diesel engine can always working in high efficient area or idle area. Practical application shows that this design scheme has the potential economic and environmental benefits.

AbstractNatural salt lick (sira) is a strategic localisation for ecological wildlife assemblage to exhibit geophagy which may act as a population dynamic buffer of prey and predators. Undoubtedly, many agree that geophagy at natural licks is linked to nutritional ecology, health and assembly places facilitating social interaction of its users. Overall, natural salt licks not only save energy of obtaining nutrient leading to health maintenance but also forms the basis of population persistence. The Royal Belum Rainforest, Malaysia (Royal Belum) is a typical tropical rainforest in Malaysia rich in wildlife which are mainly concentrated around the natural salt lick. Since this is one of the most stable fauna ecology forest in Malaysia, it is timely to assess its impact on the Malayan tiger (Panthera tigris) home range dynamics. The three-potential home ranges of the Malayan tiger in this rainforest were selected based on animal trails or foot prints surrounding the salt lick viz (e.g. Sira Kuak and Sira Batu; Sira Rambai and Sira Buluh and Sira Papan) as well as previous sightings of a Malayan tiger in the area, whose movement is dependent on the density and distribution of prey. Camera traps were placed at potential animal trails surrounding the salt lick to capture any encountered wildlife species within the area of the camera placements. Results showed that all home ranges of Malayan tiger were of no significance for large bodied prey availability such as sambar deer (Rusa unicolor), and smaller prey such as muntjacs (Muntiacus muntjac) and wild boar (Sus scrofa). Interestingly, all home range harbour the Malayan tiger as the only sole predator. The non-significance of prey availability at each home range is attributed to the decline of the Malayan tiger in the rainforest since tigers are dependant on the movement of its preferred prey surrounding natural salt licks. Thus, the information from this study offers fundamental knowledge on the importance of prey-predator interaction at salt lick which will help in designing strategy in rewilding or rehabilitation programs of the Malayan tiger at the Royal Belum Rainforest.
