Intermittent Lighting Improves the Efficiency of Artificial Insemination in Cage Housed Laying Hens Kavtarashvili A.Sh., Kolokolnikova T.N. Federal Scientific Center “All-Russian Research and Technological Poultry Institute” of Russian Academy of Sciences Omsk Agrarian Scientific Center Summary: The effects of different lighting regimes on the oviposition schedule, productive performance, and reproductive efficiency in cage housed laying hens of layer parental flock (Hisex White-R) were studied; the reasonable regime of artificial insemination (AI) under intermittent lighting is proposed. It was found that intermittent lighting regime 1L:4D:4L:1D:4L:10D compared to the constant lighting significantly alters oviposition schedule: under this regime 82.3% of all daily eggs were laid until 9 am (vs. 66.6% in control). This regime and AI at 10 am improved the productive and reproductive performance compared to control (constant lighting 16L:8D and AI at 12 am): mortality by 1.9%, egg production per initial hen by 3.8%, egg weight by 1.1%, percentage of eggs suitable for incubation by 1.9%, egg fertility by 0.9%, hatchability by 2.3%, hatch of chicks by 2.9%, feed conversion ratio (kg of feed per 10 eggs) by 5.3%, the expenses of electric energy for lighting (per 1000 eggs suitable for incubation) by 54.5%. 1.The connection between the rate of maturity (number of days between birth and production of the first egg) and egg production of 938 White Leghorn pullets, hatched and reared on the Experimental farm of the Oliefabrieken Calvé-Delft was investigated. The pullets were of various strains and received widely differing treatment as regards feeding.2.There is a curvilinear correlation between rate of maturity and to talproduction and also between rate of maturity and winter production. It is, therefore, not correct to calculate with rectilinear correlations or regressions.3.The conditions, obtaining during the rearing, influence not only the rate of maturity, but also the connection between the rate of maturity and egg production.4.It is, therefore, impossible to state any generally acceptable rules concerning the way in which the existing connection can be used to raise the average production by the elimination of certain birds.5.Even when the pullets have been carefully culled either before or at the commencement of production, it is possible to raise the average production still further by eliminating those birds, which come into production last. A considerable number of bad producers are found among the birds with the slowest rate of maturity.6.No connection was found between rate of maturity and mortality.7.Neither was there any connection between rate of nlaturity and the average weight of the eggs produced after December.8.For the 514 birds which began production after 30th September, 1935, a rectilinear correlation of +0.66±0.02 was found between rate of maturity and the average weight of the first ten eggs produced. The regression-eo-efficient of this “inception egg-weight” to rate of maturity in +0.16±0.02.

Two experiments were conducted concurrently to assess the effect of different levels of fresh and dry Tridax procumbens on performance of layers. 720 Hbbard layers were grouped into 6 treatments of 60 birds per treatment in each experiment. The treatment in consisted of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% inclusion rates of fresh and dry Tridax procumbens in first and second experiments, respectively. Tridax leaves, irrespective of the form and level had no significantly (P > 0.05) effect on egg production, egg weight and feed intake. Inclusion of Tridax either in fresh or dry form increased (P < 0.05) yolk colour, while the yolk colour intensity was more pronounced (P < 0.05) in the dry Tridax than the fresh Tridax experiment.

 This study aimed to evaluate the increasing levels (0, 1, 2, 3 e 4%) of fish by-product meal in diets for laying hens on performance, egg quality and economic analysis. A total of 160 Dekalb White hens with 52-wk old were distributed in a completely randomized design with five treatments and four replicates of eight birds each. The experiment lasted 84 days divided into four periods of 21 days. Estimates of fish by-product meal levels were determined by polynomial regression. Differences (p < 0.05) were detected for all variables of performance, in egg weight, yolk and albumen percentage, yolk and albumen height, feed cost and production cost, in which the inclusion of fish by-product meal in the diets showed better results. It can be concluded that fish by-product meal can be used in diets for hens as alternative feed, with better results in egg production, feed conversion, egg weight, yolk-albumen ratio and a reduction in feed cost and production cost.

A model that can estimate the changes that occur to the composition of egg components over time is an important tool for the nutritionists, since it can provide information about the nutrients required by a laying hen to achieve her potential egg output. In this context, the present study was aimed to model the potential egg production of laying hens during the egg-production period. One hundred and twenty Hy-Line W36 and ISA-Brown layers were used from 18 to 60 weeks of age, with each bird being an experimental unit. The birds were housed in individual cages during the experimental period. Egg production (%), egg weight (g) and the weight of egg components were recorded for each bird. The data were used to calculate the parameters of equations for predicting the weights of yolk, albumen and shell, and for predicting internal cycle length. The predicted results were evaluated by regressing residual (observed minus predicted) values of the predicted values centred of their average value. The equations for predicting mean yolk weight with age are for Hy-Line W36 (y1) and ISA-Brown (y2) respectively. Albumen and shell weights for Hy-Line W36 were described by the equations 15.07 × (yolk weight)0.37 and 0.70 × (yolk + albumen weight)0.50 respectively, and for ISA-Brown, 21.99 × (yolk weight)0.24 and 1.60 × (yolk + albumen weight)0.34 respectively. The average internal cycle length over time for Hy-Line W36 (ICL1) is described by the model 22.95 + 5.24 × (0.962t) + 0.02 × t and for ISA-Brown by 24.01 + 10.29 × (0.94t) + 0.004 × t, where t is the age at first egg (days). The assessment of the results indicated that the equations for predicting egg weight were more accurate for Hy-Line W36 but less precise for both strains, whereas the equation models for predicting the internal cycle lengths were more accurate and precise for ISA-Browns. The models could predict the potential weight of egg components and the rate of laying associated with the internal cycle lengths, and, on the basis of this information, it is possible to improve the nutrient requirement estimated.

The new original egg laying lines T, P and N selected at the Institute of Agriculture - Stara Zagora were used. Hybrid ?? ? ??, ?? ? ?? crosses were obtained and used for paternal line. Thereafter, the following breeding schedule of paternal and maternal lines was applied: Group I - (?????)? ?N?; group ?? - (?????)? ?N?; group ??? - ???N?; and group ?V - ???N?. The production traits of original and hybrid birds were recorded: live weight at the age of 8 and 18 weeks, age of sexual maturity in days, 150 days egg production, average egg weight - at 2-week intervals until end of lay; livability, heterosis effect. The live weights of hybrids at 8 and 18 weeks of age were statistically significantly lower compared to original lines. The values of heterosis for this parameter were negative for all four hybrid combinations. The earliest beginning of egg lay occurred in (?????) ? ?N? (162.08 days of age) and ???N? (163.11 days of age). The relative (%) heterosis for age of sexual maturity of studied hybrid combinations had moderate to low negative values. Average egg weights of hybrids were higher and the values of heterosis - positive for all four groups varying from 0.97% to 1.63%. The average 150 days egg production was lower in purebred lines compared to hybrids. The highest average 150 days egg production was determined in ???N? hybrids - 142 eggs. The heterosis effect for egg production in hybrids was significant.

ABSTRAKLimbah udang merupakan limbah pengolahan udang yang memiliki potensi sebagai pakan sumber protein bagi ternak puyuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji penggunaan tepung limbah udang (TLU) sebagai sumber protein pakan pada puyuh fase layer. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap empat perlakuan lima ulangan perlakuan yang digunakan terdiri dari empat level penggunaan tepung limbah udang dalam ransum yaitu P0 (kontrol), P1 (5% TLU), P2 (7,5% TLU) dan P3 (10% TLU), tiap unit perlakuan disi dengan 5 ekor puyuh. Puyuh yang diguanakan adalah puyuh fase layer umur 20 minggu, sebanyak 100 ekor yang didistribusikan kedalam 20 unit percobaan. Bahan pakan yang digunakan adalah jagung, dedak padi, konsentrat petelur dan tepung limbah udang. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis ragam dan data yang berbeda nyata (P<0,05) diuji lanjut menggunakan uji duncan. Variabel yang diamati adalah performa produksi: konsumsi pakan, produksi telur, bobot telur dan konversi ransum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan TLU dalam ransum (P1,P2 dan P3) menunjukkan pengaruh nyata (P<0,05) dibanding kontrol pada minggu ke-tiga penelitian terhadap bobot telur dan konversi ransum, penggunaan TLU (P1,P2,P3) selama lima minggu meningkatkan konsumsi ransum (P<0,05) dibanding kontrol tetapi tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) terhadap produksi telur, bobot telur dan konversi ransum. Kesimpulan penelitian ini bahwa penggunaan TLU dalam ransum dapat digunakan hingga level 7,5% sedangkan level 10% menunjukkan adanya penurunan rata-rata performa produksi.Kata kunci: tepung limbah udang, puyuh fase layer, performa produksiABSTRACTShrimp waste was shrimp processing waste which has the potential as protein source for quail feed. This study was aimed to examine the use of shrimp waste flour (SWF) asprotein source for laying quail feed. This study used  completely randomized design that consist of four treatments and five replications.The treatmentswere using levels of shrimp waste flour in feed and consist of P0 (control), P1 (5% SWF), P2 (7.5% SWF) and P3 (10% SWF ). Each treatment unit was filled with 5 quails. One hundred of 20 weeks laying quails were used in this study. Self mixing feed that contained corn, rice bran, laying concentrate and shrimp waste flour were used in this study. The data obtained were analyzed using analyze of variance and continued using Duncan multiple range test. The variables observed were production performance that consist of feed consumption, egg production, egg weight and feed conversionratio. The results showed that the use of SWF in feed (P1, P2 and P3) showed a significant effect (P <0.05) compared to controls in the third week of research on egg weight and feed conversion ratio.The use of SWF (P1, P2, P3) for five weeks increased feed consumption (P <0.05) compared to controls but not significantly different (P>0.05) for egg production, egg weight and feed conversion. The conclusion of this study was the use of SWF in feed can be used until 7.5% on laying quail feed while the level of 10% indicates a decrease in average production performance.Keywords: shrimp waste flour, laying quail, production performance
