This paper suggests a new control design based on the concept of Synergetic Control theory for controlling a one-link robot arm actuated by Pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) in opposing bicep/tricep positions. The synergetic control design is first established based on known system parameters. However, in real PAM-actuated systems, the uncertainties are inherited features in their parameters and hence an adaptive synergetic control algorithm is proposed and synthesized for a PAM-actuated robot arm subjected to perturbation in its parameters. The adaptive synergetic laws are developed to estimate the uncertainties and to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the adaptive synergetic controlled PAM-actuated system. The work has also presented an improvement in the performance of proposed synergetic controllers (classical and adaptive) by applying a modern optimization technique based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to tune their design parameters towards optimal dynamic performance. The effectiveness of the proposed classical and adaptive synergetic controllers has been verified via computer simulation and it has been shown that the adaptive controller could cope with uncertainties and keep the controlled system stable. The proposed optimal Adaptive Synergetic Controller (ASC) has been validated with a previous adaptive controller with the same robot structure and actuation, and it has been shown that the optimal ASC outperforms its opponent in terms of tracking speed and error.

The confocal microscope is now widely used in both biomedical and industrial applications for imaging, in three dimensions, objects with appreciable depth. There are now a range of different microscopes on the market, which have adopted a variety of different designs. The aim of this paper is to explore the effects on imaging performance of design parameters including the method of scanning, the type of detector, and the size and shape of the confocal aperture. It is becoming apparent that there is no such thing as an ideal confocal microscope: all systems have limitations and the best compromise depends on what the microscope is used for and how it is used. The most important compromise at present is between image quality and speed of scanning, which is particularly apparent when imaging with very weak signals. If great speed is not of importance, then the fundamental limitation for fluorescence imaging is the detection of sufficient numbers of photons before the fluorochrome bleaches.

Currently, the professional construction community information field is largely filled with the topic of creating a comfortable living environment. However, architectural and engineering design that corresponds to the concept of sustainable development is currently hindered due to the lack of a formed conceptual framework that reveals the meaning of the term "comfort", as well as a criteria list that determines the indoor environment quality in the Russian Federation regulatory and technical framework. The article offers some components of a comfortable living environment, within which the parameters of designing the internal environment of premises are highlighted. A comparative analysis of the national standards of the Russian Federation regulating the design of the internal space of residential and public buildings, with international "green" standards for a number of parameters was carried out. It is concluded that it is necessary to update the Russian regulatory and technical base taking into account the international experience of "green" standards.

IoT (Internet of Things) has become most significant area of research to design an efficient data enabled services with the help of sensors. In this paper, a low-cost system design for e-healthcare service to process the sensitive health data is presented. Vital signs of the human body are measured from the patient location and shared with a registered medical professional for consultation. Temperature and heart rate are the major signals obtained from a patient for the initial build of the system. Data is sent to a cloud server where processing and analysis is provided for the medical professional to analyze. Secure transmission and dissemination of data through the cloud server is provided with an authentication system and the patient could be able to track his data through a smart phone on connecting to the cloud server. A prototype of the system along with its design parameters has been discussed.

Upgrading of hoisting machines aims to improve their performance, to reduce risk of accidents, and to cut down operational and capital costs. One of the redesign solutions is replacement of steel cables by rubber cables. This novation can extend life of pulling members, decrease diameters of drive and guide wheels and, consequently, elements of the whole hoisting machines: rotor, reducing gear, motor. This engineering novation needs re-designing of hoisting machines; thus, the new design should be validated, in particular, strength characteristics of the machine members. This article considers a drive wheel of a hoisting machine with a pulling belt. In order to justify the potential range of design parameters with regard to safety factor, the numerical models of different-design drive wheels are developed and their operation with pulling belt (rubber cable) is simulated in the SolidWorks environment. The data on the stress state of the wheel elements are analyzed, the most loaded points are identified, and the maximal stresses on the sidewall surface and in the spokes of wheels of different designs are plotted.
