Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has been used for many atomic scale observations of metal and semiconductor surfaces. The fundamental principle of the microscope involves the tunneling of evanescent electrons through a 10Å gap between a sharp tip and a reasonably conductive sample at energies in the eV range. Lateral and vertical resolution are used to define the minimum detectable width and height of observed features. Theoretical analyses first discussed lateral resolution in idealized cases, and recent work includes more general considerations. In all cases it is concluded that lateral resolution in STM depends upon the spatial profile of electronic states of both the sample and tip at energies near the Fermi level. Vertical resolution is typically limited by mechanical and electronic noise.

The presented experimental and digital examinations of a two-dimensional turbulent free jet are a first phase of in the study of the Coandă effect and its hysteresis. Additionally, basing on theoretical analyses, selected results for a turbulent jest have been also mentioned, considering theoretical assumptions for the wall layer. As the result, on the basis of experimental, digital, and analytical methods, a review of characteristic jet properties has been prepared, which includes a jet spreading ratio, its cross and longitudinal sections, and turbulence level. The jet spreading radio has been expressed as a non-linear function of the x : b relative length.

The pyrolysis of methyl alkyl esters I to III and dithioesters IV to VI were theoretically calculated. All possible pyrolysis paths were considered. Both esters and dithioesters presented three potential paths via six-, four- and five-membered ring transition states, respectively. The calculation processes were calculated using MP2/6-31G(d) set. In-depth theoretical analyses were also presented, including NBO related analyses, synchronicities, and charge distributions, to reveal the detailed pyrolysis process.


Over roughly the last decade, there has been a notable rise in new research on historical German syntax in a generative perspective. This volume presents a state-of-the-art survey of this thriving new line of research by leading scholars in the field, combining it with new insights into the syntax of historical German. It is the first comprehensive and concise generative historical syntax of German covering numerous central aspects of clause structure and word order, tracing them throughout various historical stages. Each chapter combines a solid empirical basis and valid descriptive generalizations with reference also to the more traditional topological model of the German clause with a detailed discussion of theoretical analyses couched in the generative framework. The volume is divided into three parts according to the main parts of the clause: the left periphery dealing with verbal placement and the filling of the prefield (verb second, verb first, verb third orders) as well as adverbial connectives; the middle field including discussion of pronominal syntax, order of full NPs and the history of negation; and the right periphery with chapters on basic word order (OV/VO), prosodic and information-structural factors, and the verbal complex including the development of periphrastic verb forms and the phenomena of IPP (infinitivus pro participio) and ACI (accusativus cum infinitivo). This book thus provides a convenient overview of current research on the major issues concerning historical German clause structure both for scholars interested in more traditional description and for those interested in formal accounts of diachronic syntax.

In this work, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)/natural flake graphite (NG) polymer composites with the extraordinary high thermal conductivity were prepared by a facile mixed-heating powder method. Morphology observation and X-ray diffraction (XRD) tests revealed that the NG flakes could be more tightly coated on the surface of UHMWPE granules by mixed-heating process and align horizontally (perpendicular to the hot compression direction of composites). Laser flash thermal analyzer (LFA) demonstrated that the thermal conductivity (TC) of composites with 21.6 vol% of NG reached 19.87 W/(m·K) and 10.67 W/(m·K) in the in-plane and through-plane direction, respectively. Application experiment further demonstrated that UHMWPE/NG composites had strong capability to dissipate the heat as heat spreader. The obtained results provided a valuable basis for fabricating high thermal conductive composites which can act as advanced thermal management materials.

Drawing on the philosophy of psychological explanation, we suggest that psychological science, by focusing on effects, may lose sight of its primary explananda: psychological capacities. We revisit Marr’s levels-of-analysis framework, which has been remarkably productive and useful for cognitive psychological explanation. We discuss ways in which Marr’s framework may be extended to other areas of psychology, such as social, developmental, and evolutionary psychology, bringing new benefits to these fields. We then show how theoretical analyses can endow a theory with minimal plausibility even before contact with empirical data: We call this the theoretical cycle. Finally, we explain how our proposal may contribute to addressing critical issues in psychological science, including how to leverage effects to understand capacities better.

A traditional use of bioenergy is the main source of residential energy in developing countries, essentially using firewood to cook, boil water or heating affecting people in developing countries. Improved kitchens are more efficient and less polluting, and there is a need to evaluate different design options to facilitate their adoption. There are different types of very economical improved cook stoves with high combustion efficiency. In Mexico, multiple projects about cook stoves have been carried out, the root of this study being one of them, the Patsari cook stoves. The goal of this project was to modify previous designs to align with the habits and traditions. This study shows the importance of including the participation of the users in the design of the portable model of the Patsari cook stoves, applying Design Thinking methodology. Many designs or design changes have been done on cook stoves by different researchers, but users do not adapt to them. This article, through a field study, shows the importance of theoretical analyses along with user experiences to facilitate the adoption of these improves cook stoves and ensure their success.
