The present study was done in seven markets of Abobo (Côte d’Ivoire) for inventory vegetal antidiarrheal resources. Ethnobotanical information obtained beside 44 traditional herbalists, based on interviews, show that 18 plants species are used to cure to diarrhoea. They are belonging to 17 genera and 11 families. The best represented families were: Euphorbiaceae. Three species commonly cited by healers were: Psidium guajava, Alchornea cordifolia and Euphorbia hirta. Various plant organs are used for the preparation of drug recipes. Leaves are the most used. These receipts which are mainly multispecific require different preparation methods (decoction, soaking and kneading). Most remedies are prepared as a decoction. Administration was essentially oral. This study constitutes a source of very precious information for subsequent researches for the domains of the phytochemistry and pharmacology in order to search for new natural substance. RÉSUMÉ Plantes antidiarrhéiques vendues par les herboristes des marchés de la commune d’Abobo, au nord d’Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire). La présente étude a été conduite dans sept marchés de la commune d’Abobo (Côte d’Ivoire) pour inventorier les ressources végétales antidiarrhéiques. À l’aide de fiches questionnaires, les informations ethnobotaniques obtenues auprès de 44 herboristes, révèlent que 18 espèces de plantes sont utilisées pour combattre la diarrhée. Elles sont réparties en 17 genres et 11 familles avec une importante représentativité des Euphorbiaceae. Les trois espèces couramment citées par ces herboristes sont : Psidium guajava, Alchornea cordifolia et Euphorbia hirta. Différents organes de plante sont utilisés pour la préparation des recettes médicamenteuses. Les feuilles sont les plus employées. Les recettes, majoritairement plurispécifiques, nécessitent diverses méthodes de préparation (décoction, macération et pétrissage). La majorité des remèdes est préparée par décoction. L'administration des remèdes est faite essentiellement par la voie orale. Cette étude constitue une source d’informations très précieuse pour les recherches ultérieures dans les domaines de la phytochimie et de la pharmacologie en vue de rechercher de nouvelles substances naturelles.

Objective: To investigate the solvent-dependent antimicrobial activity and phytochemical analysis of extracts of Euphorbia hirta (leaves and flowers) and Murraya koenigii (leaves), as well as to evaluate the synergistic activity of these medicinal extracts with suitable antibiotic discs and antibiotics susceptibility of selected pathogenic microorganisms.Methods: The antimicrobial activity of the medicinal extracts was screened through agar well diffusion method and antibiotics susceptibility of selected microorganisms was investigated using disc diffusion method. A combined agar well diffusion and disc diffusion methods were used for the determination of synergistic activities of the extracts with antibiotic discs.Results: Among the different solvents, ethanol had maximum zone of inhibition against the test pathogens. Ethanolic leaf extracts of E. hirta exhibited the highest inhibitory activity against Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus with minimum inhibitory concentration value of 12.5 mg/mL and 25.0 mg/mL, respectively. Antimicrobial assay revealed that E. hirta extracts were active against all tested Gram-negative bacteria. However, none of the plant extracts had inhibitory activity against Gram-positive bacterium Propionibacterium acnes. Phytochemical screening for both the extracts from E. hirta revealed the presence of steroid, tannin, terpenoids, carbohydrates, alkaloid, flavonoid, diterpene, and glycoside, whereas M. koenigii extract was rich in saponins, protein, steroid, tannin, carbohydrates, alkaloid, flavonoid, and glycoside.Conclusion: The present study proposes that E. hirta and M. koenigii extracts are excellent sources of natural bioactive compounds that could be used as potent antimicrobial drugs to counter the emerging problem of antibiotic resistance of pathogenic microorganisms.

Euphorbia hirta Linn, a representative of the Euphorbiaceae family, is a widespread annual herb found in wastelands in humid conditions. The plant is high in phytochemicals such as tannin, quercetin, and phytosterol, however there are few phytopharmacological investigations on it. Plant components are normally employed in traditional medicine to treat respiratory problems, gastrointestinal issues, wound healing, and other ailments. The steroid of E. hirta was found to have CNS depressive and muscle relaxant effects, as well as a sub-maximal anti-stress and anxiolytic impact.

The use of traditional materials is one alternative for the treatment of kidney stones. One of them is utilizing a plant of patikan kebo (Euphorbia hirta). This study is conducted by using laboratory experiments and the extract of the plant of patikan kebo red and patikan kebo green to dissolve the calcium phosphate as a substitute for kidney stones. The extraction of samples is conducted by decoction. The aim of the study is to determine the effective concentration of the extracts of patikan kebo red and green to dissolve calcium and test the effectiveness of the extracts of patikan kebo to dissolve calcium compared to Batugin elixir and distilled water. Determination of the concentration of dissolved calcium in the extracts using a flame photometer. The results show that the extract of patikan kebo red with a concentration of 2.1% is effective in dissolve the calcium with a concentration of 5.2 ppm. The extract of patikan kebo green with a concentration of 27.4% is effective in dissolving the calcium with a concentration of 27.5 ppm. When compared with Batugin elixir and distilled water, Batugin elixir can only dissolve the calcium with concentration 15.3 ppm, while distilled water can only dissolve 3 ppm of the calcium.
