The dimensional accuracy and mechanics properties of parts made by Selective Laser Sintering depend greatly on the sintering process parameters. The influence of process parameters on warping weight of parts sintered by blends of polyamide (PA12) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) was studied. The relationship between the process parameters and the warping height was presented. The surface morphology of the part and uniformity of powder mixed were analyzed by SEM. The optimum parameters of minimum warping height were obtained: preheat temperature 110°C, scan speed 300mm/s, laser power 21W, thickness of single layer 0.2mm.

Purpose – The aim of this research is to reach a deep understanding on the effect of the process parameters of Direct Metal Laser Sintering process (DMLS) on macroscopic properties (hardness and density) of AlSi10Mg parts and resulting microstructure. Design/methodology/approach – A full factorial design of experiment (DOE) was applied to determine the most significant process parameter influencing macroscopic properties of AlSi10Mg parts manufactured by DMLS process. The analysis aims to define the optimum process parameters and deduce the process window that provides better macroscopic properties of AlSi10Mg parts. Optical microscopy observations are carried out to link the microstructure to macroscopic properties. Findings – Macroscopic properties of DMLS parts are influenced by the change in process parameters. There is a close correlation between the geometry of scan tracks and macroscopic properties of AlSi10Mg parts manufactured by DMLS process. Originality/value – The knowledge of utilizing optimized process parameters is important to fabricate DMLS parts with better mechanical properties. The present research based on applying experimental design is the first analysis for AlSi10Mg parts produced in DMLS process.

In order to obtain dense-porous laminated structure in green bodies of SiC ceramics, rapid aqueous electrophoretic deposition (EPD) was introduced. The suspension for the electrophoretic deposition was prepared using silicon carbide, silicon and carbon powders as the starting materials. During the electrophoretic deposition process, the intending dense and porous layers were deposited alternately to form the green body. After drying, the green bodies were reaction-bonded at 1550°C in vacuum atmosphere. Pore fraction of the porous layers could be adjusted by changing process preferences of EPD and suspension composition. Pore size and size distribution could be controlled by using different sized starting powders. Using this process, no additional substance is necessary to generate the pores via burnt-off, and the dense/porous laminated structure can be obtained by one-step sintering process.

Attempts have been made to describe the influence of production process parameters on the microstructure and properties of W - Ag and Mo - Ag composites. The compositions of powder mixtures are W + 30% Ag and Mo + 30%Ag. Silver additions assists densification during sintering by a liquid phase sintering process. The main goal of this work is to compare properties and microstructure of as-sintered and as-infiltrated composites.

The SiCp performing sample was made first then Al/SiCp (65%) was manufactured. Appropriate component and proportion of binder and process parameters were selected to control the porosity. Debinding has succeeded by extractive and thermal debinding processes. SiCp preforming samples with good appearance, enough strength, and right porosity were obtained by pre-sintering process at 1100°C. Composites with high density and homogeneous microstructure were manufactured by pressure infiltration under 1050°C and 15MPa. The distribution of aluminium and silicon elements was homogeneous. The primary components of materials are aluminium, β-SiC and α-SiC. The thermal expand coefficient of composites is 8.0×10-6/°C at room temperature, which increases with temperature and reaches to 11.0×10-6/°C at 300°C. The density is 2.92g/cm3, and relative density is more than 97 %. The strength is about 500MPa, approaching to the upper limit of the theoretical value.
