In this work, polyurethane/fluorinated acrylic co-polymer/silicon dioxide (PU/FAP/SiO2) hybrid superhydrophobic coatings were fabricated on glass substrates via a simple one-step coating process. The effects of each coating component on the coating properties were systematically investigated. The optimized coating exhibits a water contact angle (WCA) of 159° and a rolling angle of 3°. Meanwhile, the coating has an optical light transmittance of 88%, indicating the good transparency of the coating. Besides, the coating demonstrates an adequate level of abrasion resistance. After a total abrasion distance of 300 cm against a piece of 800 mesh sand paper, the sample still kept a water contact angle of about 110°, showing its high abrasion resistance. Therefore, the optimized coating has a great potential for practical application.

AbstractHighly textured transparent conducting ZnO:Al thin films have been prepared by r.f. magnetron sputtering. The films were deposited on polyester (Mylar type D, 100 μm thickness) and glass substrates at room temperature. Surface stylus profiling, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope and Hall effect measurements as a function of temperature, using the van der Pauw technique have characterized the films. The samples are polycrystalline with a hexagonal wurtzite structure and a strong crystallographic c-axis orientation (002) perpendicular to the substrate surface (columnar structure). The ZnO:Al thin films with a resistivity as low as 3.6×10−2 ωcm have been obtained, as deposited.

ABSTRACTIt has been demonstrated in literature that chemical liquid deposition (CLD) processes such as dip coating, spray coating, roll coating, spin coating, curtain coating, meniscus coating etc. can be successfully used to deposit anti-reflective coatings on glass substrates. In comparison to physical vapor deposition (PVD), a CLD process generally is cost efficient because of lower capital requirements to set up coating manufacturing lines. Within the realm of CLD processes only some application techniques are suitable for high speed continuous manufacturing processes to deposit coatings on large area glass substrates. Significant differences in transfer efficiencies of these high speed application processes are readily apparent when material utilization per unit area of glass are compared. Roll coat process among all the high speed CLD processes stands out for its high material transfer efficiency due to direct contact printing on flat glass substrates. Honeywell Electronic Materials expanded its line of SOLARC® anti-reflective coating materials to include a new coating formulation SOLARC® RPV, which is customized for roll coating application. This paper highlights the advantages of using SOLARC® RPV in roll coat process and the performance attributes of SOLARC® anti-reflective coatings. Durability characteristics of these anti-reflective coatings in accelerated aging tests designed to simulate harsh field conditions will also be discussed.

Heat-reflective coatings, used to reduce the asphalt pavement temperature and urban heat island effect, have a good cooling effect; coating development, however, generally focuses on cooling. This study aims to design a heat-reflective coating with both durability and cooling effect by considering the functions of each component, improving the coating bond strength and abrasion resistance, and conducting laboratory tests and test section verification. The coating developed exhibits bond strength and abrasion resistance 20% and 49%, respectively, higher than those of ordinary coatings. The experiments reveal a cooling effect of red coating up to 10.2 °C, a bond strength of up to 1.20 MPa at 25 °C, and an abrasion rate of up to 25% after 60 min; the cooling effect is basically the same as that for traditional heat-reflective coatings, but the bond strength and abrasion resistance significantly improved. In the analysis of the test section, the cooling effect reaches 7.0 °C, the performance of anti-skid decreases little, and the coating is still usable normally after 4 months.
