The Russo-Georgia war in 2008 and the conflict in Ukraine in 2014 galvanized the countries, which are namely squeezed between NATO and Russia into considering their strategies again. The paper examines Russia’s efforts to maintain its influence in its “near abroad” in the face of NATO’s enlargement. It principally focuses on identifying the challenges particular countries face as obstacles to NATO accession. The arguments raised in the paper prove that, the primary reasons of Russia-Georgia War and Ukraine conflict are associated with these countries’ NATO aspiration. An argument regarding the Alliance’s reluctance to actively engage in partner nations is also presented. The objective of the study is to consider the repercussions of NATO aspiration and introduce the real prospects of cooperation with NATO. The research methods primarily used in the book are comparative analysis and synthesis.

BR Seckel. Facial danger zones: Avoiding nerve injury in facial plastic surgery. Can J Plast Surg 1994;2(2):59-66. with today's new emphasis on more aggressive and deeper facial dissection during rhytidectomy, the peripheral nerve branches of cranial nerves V and VII in the face are more often exposed closer to the plane of dissection and more likely to be injured in the course of composite, extended sub-submuscular aponeurotic system (sub-SMAS), and subperiosteal rhytidectomy. It is important to have a keen and thorough understanding of the location of these nerves to avoid injury. I divide the face into seven facial danger zones based on known anatomic locations of the branches of the peripheral nerves of the face and the location in which they are most easily injured in the course of facial dissection. A description of the nerve and consequence of injury, the anatomic location of the zone, and the technique for safe surgical dissection for each facial danger zone is presented.

Chapter one examines the formation of Asian American writers in the era of Asian exclusion through a comparative analysis of Younghill Kang’s and Carlos Bulosan’s responses to Orientalism in their works. As legal exclusion created the racial category of Asian in the United States, migrant Asian writers faced the challenge of creating modern Asian subjects in literary English. Cultural brokers between Orientalist images of their countries of origin and the modern experiences of Asian migrants in the United States, Kang and Bulosan tested the boundaries of English to represent migrant experiences lived in languages other than English. As a heterogeneous cultural epistemology, Orientalism placed different constraints on Kang, who contended with the Orientalist valorization of the Far East, and Bulosan, who resorted to the Filipino intellectual tradition of the ilustrado in the face of Orientalist primitivism.

Although researches on richness, composition and conservation of Atlantic rainforest’s herpetofauna have focused on large and protected areas, small fragments subject to human interference are important to maintain α-diversity, as they often constitute the only relictual areas with favorable habitats for those species within the cities. In this paper, we report the richness and composition of snakes from a small urbanized area in the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), in the city of Salvador, state of Bahia, focusing on its conservation. We also propose hypotheses to explain the mechanisms that would facilitate the coexistence of these species, even in the face of an intense fragmentation process. The list of species here presented was based on the registers from the Museu de Zoologia of UFBA and the register book of the “Núcleo Regional de Ofiologia e Animais Peçonhentos da Bahia” (1987–2012). Based on the literature, each taxon was characterized with respect to habitat use, substrate, activity patterns and food habits. Nine species, belonging to the families Boidae (Boa constrictor) and Colubridae (Helicops leopardinus, Liophis almadensis, L. miliaris, L. taeniogaster, Oxyrhopus trigeminus, Philodryas olfersii, Sibynomorphus neuwiedi and Tantilla melanocephala), were registered. A comparative analysis of data from habitat and activity patterns of the species studied suggests that the coexistence of nine taxa in such fragment may be related to different combinations of substrate use and diet. Liophis almadensis (jararaquinha-false) and B. constrictor (python) showed higher relative abundance and were the only species recorded from 2010–2012, suggesting that part of the herpetofauna reported over the last 14 years may be locally extinct. This observation is even more critical because this period coincides with the suppression of almost all remaining fragments of Atlantic forest in the study area for university modernization and expansion.Additional key words: Bahia, conservation, local extinction, snakes, UFBA.

The study of odontometric parameters seems to be relevant for the development and improvement of new methods for diagnosis and prediction of dental diseases. The study objective is to make a comparative analysis of the size of the crowns of the teeth of the upper and lower jaws, depending on the type of face. Material and methods. Odontometric and cephalometric parameters were studied, the research was conducted on 192 girls aged 17 to 20 years. Cephalometric program included the definition of the zygomatic diameter and the upper facial height with the subsequent calculation of the facial index. The face types were determined based on the value of this index. Odontometric parameters were recorded by impressions of the upper and lower jaws. Results. Reliable differences were found: a wide type of face is associated with smaller mesiodistal sizes of the crowns of the maxillary first molars, maxillary lateral incisors and maxillary canines, as well as with a lower height of the crowns of the mandibular canines. With a narrow type of face, the opposite pattern was revealed - all the above mentioned parameters in this case are higher than those of euryens. Dimensional characteristics of teeth with a medium broad face are characterized by intermediate values between the extreme types of face. Conclusion. On the basis of odontometric and cephalometric studies, the comparative analysis of the size of the crowns of the teeth of the upper and lower jaws is given depending on the type of face. It was revealed that odontometry indicators have specific features depending on the type of face. The new data obtained as a result of the research supplement and expand already known information about the parameters studied, both in theoretical and practical aspects.

Literacy on focus: a comparative analysis between Institutions of Higher EducationAbstractThis study deals with the content related to the theme "literacy" present in the disciplines of a face-to-face as well as a distant and online course of Pedagogy. The research begins with a brief historical revisitation of higher education and teacher training, regarding face-to-face as well as distant and online courses for teachers. It also presents an analysis that shows the activities carried out by these institutions, besides the study of the syllabus and disciplines that focus on students reading and writing. The results show that the face-to-face institution has more subjects on literacy (thirteen subjects in all) in comparison to the distant education institution (six subjects). This finding and others shall be explained throughout this paper. Keywords: Teacher Training, Literacy, Curriculum content.

The main results in terms of inter-regional and intra-regional variations of the application of the concept of "health macro-region" are presented in the first part of the article in order to show how the European health care systems have differently coped with the COVID-19 outbreak. Given the high levels of intra-regional variation found, it seemed appropriate to also add an analysis by country in order to identify those "sentinel cases", given their alert value, which recorded the worst ratio between the infection rates (cases/population) and the lethality rates (deaths/cases). In order to explore the possible reasons behind the problematic coping with the pandemic of these "sentinel cases", a conceptual framework for the analysis of vulnerability, resilience and their governance in terms of sustainability of health care systems is developed in the second part, hoping its application could represent a useful contribution for best-practice solutions that could guide the management of future pandemics.
