The article consist data about effect of different levels of vitamin E and selenium in the diet of carps during their growing and also informationabout the influence on processes of lipid peroxidation and activity of antioxidant protection in their body.The experiment conducted in three experimental ponds. After wintering there were placed four ears mature females and males carp, six individuals in each group. Supplements of vitamin E administered at a rate of 25 mg/kg and drug «Sel–Plex» the rate of selenium – 0.3 mg/kg were added to further basic diet(BD) of female and male carp first experimental group (EG1). The second experimental group (EG2) received (BD) and vitamin E supplements in an amount of 75 mg / kg, and just as in EG1 – selenium – 0.3 mg/kg of feed.The control group received fish feed without additives vitamins and minerals.Feeding lasted for 30 days, due to the physiological needs of the fish feed. After spawning in fish of research and control group swere taken blood samples for biochemical research.The study led to a dose–dependent decrease (p < 0.01 – 0.001) content of TBA–active products and hydroperoxidase of lipids, but did not significantly effect onsuperoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activity of blood So, the reduction of lipid peroxidation products in the carp’s blood of experimental groups probably was caused by the growth of non–enzymatic level, which is associated with fat–soluble vitamins.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the addition of dried lemongrass leaves (DLGL) powder, at different levels, on phenolics content, antioxidant activities, consumer acceptance and the inhibition of lipid peroxidation of roasted coffee (RC). Design/methodology/approach DLGL powder was incorporated at the levels of 0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5% and 10% of RC weight. The total flavonoids (TF), total phenolics (TP) and antioxidant activity measured using a 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and reducing power assay of RC, DLGL and binary mixture of them determined. The oxidative indices of coffee oil samples during storage were investigated. In addition, the sensory characteristics of RC fortified with different levels of DLGL powder were evaluated. Findings The TP content of DLGL powder was 1,100.32 mg/100 g DWb, nearly 1.2 times higher than found in RC beans. The TF content of RC enriched with 2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5% and 10% DLGL were found to be around 1.05, 1.10, 1.15 and 1.20 times higher than that in the control coffee samples. RC supplemented with various levels of DLGL powder showed higher DPPH radical scavenging and reducing power activities. At the end of the storage period (six months), the acid, peroxide, P-Anisidine and total oxidation value values of RC supplemented with 10% DLGL powder were about 1.94, 2.52, 2.60 and 2.59 times as low as in the control sample without any addition of DLGL powder, respectively. RC containing 2.5% and 5.0% DLGL powder had significantly (p < 0.05) the highest sensory scores. Consequently, the addition of DLGL in coffee at up to a 5% ratio may have potential health benefits. Practical implications RC containing 2.5% and 5.0% DLGL powder had significantly (p = 0.05) the highest sensory scores. Originality/value Consequently, the addition of DLGL in coffee at up to a 5% ratio may have potential health benefits.

Abstract Background and aims Mercury (Hg) is one of the most dangerous pollutant heavy metals to the environment, which causes several toxic effects in plants upon accumulation, such as induction of oxidative stress. Nitrogen (N) is one of the most limiting macronutrient for plants, being mostly assimilated as NO3─ which is reduced to NO2─ by the enzyme nitrate reductase (NR), prior its reduction to NH4+.Methods We studied the physiological alterations caused by Hg (0, 6 and 30 µM) in alfalfa plants grown at two different levels of NO3─: low, (2 mM; LN), and high (12 mM; HN) for one week using a semi-hydroponic culture system.Results Several parameters of oxidative stress such as lipid peroxidation, chlorophyll content, biothiol concentration and, ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase (GR) activity showed that HN plants were less affected by Hg. Nitrate reductase activity and NO3─ concentration was altered under Hg stress, with lower impact in plants nourished with high NO3─. Conclusions Our results highlight the importance of the nitrogen nutritional status to improve tolerance to toxic metals like Hg.

This study aimed to reveal the effects of coumarin on Lens culinaris Medik. The germinated and ungerminated seed counts of the experimental groups were determined and the EC50 value was calculated by probit analysis. In biochemical studies, catalase and superoxide dismutase enzyme activities were investigated together with lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide quantities. The results demonstrated an increase in the amount of malondialdehyde, a measure of lipid peroxidation, a decrease in the amount of H2O2 and EC50 value in the CAT activity and an increase in the EC50 x 2 value. In real-time PCR analysis, three different genetic expressions related to abiotic stress (CAT, Cu / Zn SOD and Mn SOD gene expression) were examined. It was determined that coumarin caused genotoxic and biochemical damage on L. culinaris.

Cancer continues to be a major cause of mortality globally. Zebrafish present suitable models for studying the mechanisms of genotoxic carcinogens. The aim of this study was to investigate the interaction between oxidant–antioxidant status, apoptosis and immunity in zebrafish that were exposed to three different genotoxic carcinogens methylnitrosourea, dimethylbenzanthracene, benzoapyrene and methylnitrosourea + dimethylbenzanthracene starting from early embryogenesis for 30 days. Lipid peroxidation, nitric oxide levels, superoxide dismutase and glutathione- S-transferase activities and mRNA levels of apoptosis genes p53, bax, casp3a, casp2 and immunity genes fas, tnfα and ifnγ1 were evaluated. The disruption of the oxidant–antioxidant balance accompanied by altered expressions of apoptotic and immunity related genes were observed in different levels according to the carcinogen applied. Noteworthy, ifnγ expressions decreased in all carcinogen-exposed groups. Our results will provide basic data for further carcinogenesis research in zebrafish models.
