AbstractEU network codes are legally binding rules related to cross-border and market integration issues and elaborated through a complex procedure set by the third energy package. This article comments on the experience accumulated so far and identifies future challenges by following the “life cycle” of EU network codes from their elaboration phase to the current stage of their implementation.

Abstract In the abstract to chapter 2, the reference was added for authors mentioned explicitly in the text. To round off the work, the network actors’ narratives are discussed against the background of an increase in cross-border encounters as expedited by transnational digital technologies, for example. The “translational turn” is taken as a starting point for inferring the future challenges to a form of narrative which should be in a position to create narrative spaces. Cultural theorist Homi K. Bhabha designates such narrative locations as the “Third Space” (The location of culture. London: Routledge (1994)).

Due to the lack of legal certainty in determining the law applicable to third-party effects of the assignment of claims and, consequently, determining the law applicable to the owner of the claim after a cross-border transaction, the European Commission proposed a new regulation aimed at increasing cross-border transactions investment and market integration. The aim of the new regulation is clear and the reasons for its proposal are understandable. Nevertheless, we wonder what impact the new regulation will have on cross-border transactions if it is adopted as it is right now. Will these uniform rules reduce legal risks and bring significant added value to financial markets?

The European Commission proposed a new regulation related to the law applicable to third-party effects of the assignment of claims. By this regulation the European Commission is aiming at increasing cross-border transactions, investments and market integration. However, the proposal is facing negative positions of member states, especially the United Kingdom. Even though the United Kingdom will not be obliged to follow the rules from the proposal, because it will come into effect after the transition period ends, its approach on this matter will regulate the third party effects of the assignment of claims in case the of cross-border transactions between a person from a member state and from the United Kingdom. Taking into account the difference between the approaches of the European Union and the United Kingdom, persons involved may get into more legal uncertainty than before.

Transnational Marketing Journal is dedicated to disseminate scholarship on cross-border phenomena in marketing by acknowledging the importance of local and global or in other words, underlining the transnational practices marked by national and local characteristics in a fluid fashion spreading over more than one national territory. The first article by Paulette Schuster looks into “falafel” and “shwarma” in Mexico and discusses the perception of Israeli food in Mexico. The second article is a case study illustrating a critical account of cultural dimensions formulated by Schwarz using the value surveys data. The third article in the issue is a qualitative study of the negative attitudes of millennials torwards mobile marketing.

Phileurus valgus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Dynastinae: Phileurini) is a common species widely distributed from the southern United States to Argentina and the West Indies. In this work the immature stages are described and illustrated based on specimens from Argentina. A key to the known third-stage larvae of New World Phileurini species is provided and updated. Notes on the life cycle and natural history are also included.

The chapter provides an overview of how policy analysis takes place in Mexican Think Tanks. It focuses on two of the few organisations of this kind that currently exist in the country: the Centro de Investigación para el Desarrollo (CIDAC, or Centre for Research for Development) and the Centro de Estudios Espinosa Yglesias (CEEY, or Centre of Studies Espinosa Yglesias). The chapter is divided into four sections. The first discusses the main features of think tanks, with a particular focus on the Mexican ones. The second presents the origins and general objectives of CIDAC and CEEY, and describes how these two organizations conduct policy analysis. The third compares both cases, paying particular attention to how they define their topics of interest, how they gather relevant information, what kind of policy products they generate, what kind of communication channels they use, and how they assess the impact that their analyses may have had. The chapter closes with some conclusions and general remarks about the future challenges of policy analysis in Mexican think tanks.

The elastocaloric cooling, utilizing latent heat associated with martensitic transformation in shape-memory alloys, is being considered in the recent years as one of the most promising alternatives to vapour compression cooling technology. It can be more efficient and completely harmless to the environment and people. In the first part of this work, the basics of the elastocaloric effect (eCE) and the state-of-the-art in the field of elastocaloric materials and devices are presented. In the second part, we are addressing crucial challenges in designing active elastocaloric regenerators, which are currently showing the largest potential for utilization of eCE in practical devices. Another key component of elastocaloric technology is a driver mechanism that needs to provide loading for active elastocaloric regenerators in an efficient way and recover the released energy during their unloading. Different driver mechanisms are reviewed and the work recovery potential is discussed in the third part of this work.
