(1) Actuaries in their professional life are concerned both with the study of population statistics and with the financial administration of pension schemes of all kinds. Among their responsibilities in relation to pension schemes are the calculation of rates of contribution and benefit, the determination of the funds which it is necessary to accumulate to meet contractual liabilities, and the estimation of the disbursements (or “emerging costs” as they are commonly termed) which may be expected over future years. It follows that the age distribution of the population, the economic effects of changes in that age distribution, and the provision of pensions are all subjects of vital concern to the actuarial profession. Accordingly, in response to an invitation received from the Committee which, under the chairmanship of Sir Thomas Phillips, is considering the economic and financial problems of provision for old age, the Councils of the Institute of Actuaries and of the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland desire to submit the following evidence.

At the end of XX century, the old age theme has been approached due to concern of the society with the quality of man’s life in the aging process and the fact of seniors correspond to a growing representative portion of the population in the quantitative point of view. So the aging changes in a problem that wins expressiveness and legitimacy in the field of the daily current concerns. This article intends to demonstrate that the work can articulate other life projects for the seniors and to avoid psychic pathologies in the old age that can appear due to the loss of personal identity, to the involvement lack in motivated activities or starting from the adoption of inadequate consumption ways or lifestyles. For this, this article assumes a line of preventive character explanation under two slopes: the first refers to the fact that, if the work ennobles the man, he must acquire or improve this individual competences, adapting them to the new demands of the job market to get a job, or even to reactivate his professional life because new life projects. The second slope follows the direction of the discovery of the seniors’ potentialities for the companies, which can adapt the qualities [and limitations] of this workers category to the various functions in the organization. The Brazilian entrepreneur needs to be attentive to the image of his company and the differential competitive that can distinguish it of the other companies. And this can be to employee senior people or to maintenance it in the company personnel staff.

Production of occidental type of tobacco seedlings (Barley and Virginia) in our country, so far has been organized in traditional way. It considered tobacco seedlings production in semi hot hotbed, which has been heated with manure. Tobacco seedlings' production in qualitatively new way considers seed sowing in Todd's systems. The goal of this kind of researches is to compare these two ways of seedlings' production in economic way, i.e. determination of production's total costs when product is produced by traditional and by modern way, in Todd's systems.

Methods and principles of scientific cognition of general and special methods and receptions became methodological basis of research that the effective used in the process of ground and the applied value of the use of clustering. Including the methods of systematization and generalization? what are used for the analysis of the existent  aspects of creation the clusters in different industries of activity of enterprises; inductions and deductions, what are use for the ground of the applied value of clustering; between disciplinary analogy, what are use for the evaluation the virtual of application and adaptation of clusters to the operating of modern enterprises conditions. Supposition became the basic hypothesis of research, that modern cluster educations in different industries of Ukraine national economy have more virtual than practical application, and - basic its further development its legislatively-normative determination and use must become in the direction of creation the competitive products. The statement of basic materials. It is well-proven that the applied methods of clustering have likeness with the reliable methods of realization of prognosis, when the variety of the possible states of the economic systems is planned. Common reliable idea about development does not give reliable information a cluster about development of single enterprises in it, that is why conduct each in such cluster associations more casual character, than reliable activity to the cluster, has yet a subject. There is authenticity of that not every subject will be consistently and to move on a scenario which is offered in a cluster association, but will incarnate that which answers its idea about prosperity and necessities. In-process of expose was wrote the mechanisms of presentation the participants of cluster about a utility, satisfaction system of values, which is carried in itself by creation of different clusters. Offered approach consideration about cluster society have originality and practical meaningfulness and allow to send processes creation of clusters on determination of compatible values and necessities for its participants and receipt of public economic effects from it. The conducted research allowed to formulate a conclusion, that clustering have the hidden potentials, that not allow effective develop the economy of enterprises, but take in attention the virtual features of perception the clustering, it follows to pay attention to necessity: creation of legislatively-normative base in relation to functioning of clusters, presence of instruments the state support of activity of clusters on regional and national levels for creation of competitive products; creation of compatible values and requirements in mutual relations in a middle clusters and receipt of the objective applied effects in relation to functioning of clustering.

From an international perspective, the Dutch system of old age provisions stands out for its wide coverage, fixed benefits, and an overall actuarial soundness that seem to make this system more shock proof to demographic shifts and economic adversities than those in other “Western” countries. Its actual foundation is a compulsory old age insurance for all citizens, enforced by law and implemented by the state; this insurance is supplemented by fully funded pension schemes for workers and employees, operating under legal control; and finally there is a variety of additional and noncompulsory pension benefits and individual insurance arrangements. The main impetus to the genesis of this system came from employers who, with different agendas, created various pension funds; eventually it was the state, which set a decisive example with a funded pension fund for its civil servants. This became the standard to all corporate pension schemes and provoked innovations like branch funds. These initiatives were supported and regulated by legislation that made these arrangements compulsory and guaranteed their juridical independence and actuarial soundness. Only after this legally promoted maturation of private funds, the state set out to create public arrangements on a “pay-as-you-go” basis for all citizens. This delicate interplay between private and public pension arrangements is highly characteristic of the Dutch variety of capitalism in a broader context. In the polarity between liberal and coordinated market economies, as developed by Soskice and Hall, the Dutch system of old age provisions has played a prominent role in ranking this country more firmly into the latter category. However, within this range of countries the Dutch system of old age provisions is also a bit atypical: private corporate and branch arrangements were encouraged and at the same time embedded in a legal framework. The role of the state was also remarkable: a supervisor of the private funds, a collector and distributor in a universal insurance system, and an employer with an exemplary pension scheme.

Abstract: Old-age Pensions and Social Equalization in Germany and Austria – a Comparison Using Model Calculations A comparison of pension entitlements based on ideal-type biographies allows for an identification of differences between pensions systems. We compare public pension schemes in Germany and Austria, starting with the OECD’s model biographies. These biographies are signified by stable employment careers and income positions, and regular retirement without deductions. The OECD’s approach is discussed, revised, updated, and amended. Periods of unemployment and childcare and early retirement are included. This leads to more realistic life courses and means an inclusion of redistributive measures. The Austrian pension insurance delivers higher benefits in every constellation discussed; redistributive elements partly increase, partly reduce differences.

Abstract There is a growing body of evidence supporting the detrimental impact of loneliness on biological, psychological, and social functioning. Loneliness has been cited to contribute to social isolation, mental health disorders, and premature death in old age. In turn, the prevention of loneliness has emerged as a priority area in geriatric and gerontology research, practice, and policy. However, determination of whether persons living 100 or more years feel lonely or socially disconnected has remained limited within centenarian research. Such research has historically fostered translation of insights and secrets for living long and aging well. Centenarians represent persons who have managed to survive, delay, or escape varying biopsychosocial losses that might otherwise deteriorate emotional health, exacerbate feelings of isolation, and limit human longevity potentials. Guided by a biopsychosocial framework, this symposium will consider biological, psychological, and social variants that contribute to risk as well as resilience in loneliness in very old age. Of particular interest is the advancement of evidence-based research exposing the interplay between loneliness and nutritional health, impact of lifelong childlessness on feelings of solitude, role of personality traits and the expression of loneliness, and the intersection between active religious engagement and loneliness. Biopsychosocial attributes that reduce the threat of social isolation and loneliness, as well as improve emotional well-being in human longevity will be further discussed. Implications relevant for geriatric counseling and wellness programming for old-old adults will be highlighted.

ABSTRACTA critique of the study of ageing by sociologists and historians is provided in this paper, on the basis of the comparative neglect of life history studies across the whole lifespan. It points to the skewed nature of studies reported in the literature. As a corrective, results from a UK life history based study are presented. It focuses on leisure, grand- parenting and intimate relationships between adults, leading to conclusions about the relationship between class factors in the determination of late life experiences and self perceptions of the meaning of old age.

Abstract Lindegren, M., Waldo, S., Nilsson, P. A., Svedäng, H., and Persson, A. 2013. Towards sustainable fisheries of the Öresund cod (Gadus morhua) through sub-stock-specific assessment and management recommendations. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 70: 1140–1150. Fisheries management traditionally relies on stock assessments assuming discrete populations within large administrational areas. However, failing to account for sub-stock structuring may result in overestimation of the stocks' true harvest potential and unsustainable exploitation of small stock elements. Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) frequently occurs in spatially segregated populations, some of which exhibit fine-scaled stock structuring within current management boundaries. Here we use the locally spawning cod stock in the Sound (“Öresund”) as a case study, and perform a sub-stock-specific assessment to evaluate biological and economic effects of managing the Sound cod as a separate stock. Our results indicate that reducing exploitation pressure, particularly through technical regulations i.e. increasing gill-net mesh sizes, would not only enhance the stock age distribution, but yield long-term net benefits to the local gill-net fishery. Furthermore, our study emphasizes the need for developing sub-stock-specific management recommendations in order to ensure the maintenance of fisheries resources in general, and the persistence of sub-stock structuring in particular.

This chapter provides a comparative analysis of pharmaceutical expenditure levels across major global markets. It identifies several factors for the difference across countries, including national income, spending on overall healthcare, price for substitutable healthcare products and services, age distribution, patient and physician tastes and preferences, and even culture. The discussion focuses on seven of the largest national markets outside the United States: Japan, China, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Brazil. While there are notable differences between these markets, one especially important commonality distinguishes them from the United States: in every single market, the central government plays a pivotal role in the determination of drug prices by using its monopsonist power in negotiations with and regulations of drug manufacturers.
