Environmental Education in Canada: Contemporary Issues & Future Possibilities

Environmental education has become a major concern for many politicians, educators, and parents in Canada. The politics of resource scarcity, environmental deterioration, and failed economic theories have combined to force nations such as Canada to reassess their priorities. Environmentalism has matured to the degree that large numbers of environmentally related contradictions in Canadian society can be traced to patterns of western intellectual thought and debated in terms of differing ideologies relating to population, economic development, government policy making, the legal system, and to education. As we face the 21st century with growing uncertainty and threats to our understandings, our ideas, and our institutions, an environmental perspective may well come to dominate our consciousness and our education.This paper develops an argument for reform in current environmental education practices within Canada at a time when educational systems in this country are becoming serious about incorporating an environmental perspective. After setting the context within systems of Canadian education, the paper attempts to capture the essence of environmental education activities by means of some broadly based Canadian contributions to the field and by two specific examples. The purpose of these sections is to throw into relief a number of tensions and contradictions in the contemporary theory and practice of environmental education in Canada and to identify a number of issues for debate in light of this experience. Finally, a proposal consistent with authentic principles of socially critical environmental education is suggested as a means of reconceptualising future environmental education activities within Canadian contexts.

With the majority of the population working in agriculture, the economy of Khmer people is mainly agricultural. At present, the Khmer ethnic group has a workingstructure in the ideal age, but the number of young and healthy workers who have not been trained is still high and laborers lack knowledge and skills to do business. Labor productivity is still very low ... Problems in education quality, human resources; the transformation of traditional religion; effects of climate change; Cross-border relations of the people have always been and are of great interest and challenges to the development of the Khmer ethnic community. Identifying fundamental and urgent issues, forecasting the socio-economic trends in areas with large numbers of Khmer people living in the future will be the basis for the theory and practice for us to have. Solutions in the development and implementation of policies for Khmer compatriots suitable and effective.

In the past decade, an increasing number of geologists and other scientific researchers have presented evidence that we have entered a new geologic epoch called the Anthropocene. The primary characteristic of the Anthropocene, researchers argue, revolves around the combination of an emerging and measurable sedimentary layer of increasing human artifacts (mostly plastics) in combination with significant and negative transformations within the Earth’s biodiversity and climate systems. In this article, the researchers were interested in exploring how anthropogenic events will likely affect educational systems and institutions through multi-decade environmental audits and educational planning that are more closely linked to addressing the world’s major anthropogenic problems such as climate change and a global loss of biodiversity related to human development and activity. This article concludes by exploring how anthropogenic forces might be redirected as human catalysts for a more positive environmental and geologic legacy. In a globalised world, the school class is the mirror of a changing society. This research aims to identify the readiness of students of the specialty ‘Pre-school education’ in Belarus and students of the LM Science of Education in Italy to work in a multicultural environment. Comparative analysis of social land in Italy and Belarus, confrontation of curricula and higher education programmes from the standpoint of the tasks of forming linguistic, communicative, ethnocultural and multicultural competencies, and obtained results from the diagnostics of the culture of interethnic interaction allowed us to identify the possibilities of creative extrapolation of the existing positive experience in the national educational systems. The research materials can be used to improve the theory and practice of multicultural education, and the quality of preparation of pedagogical personnel of pre-school profile for work in a heterogeneous educational environment. <span>The article discusses the principles of education for sustainable development and examples of their implementation in the context of the ecological culture formation. The subject of the study is environmental education for sustainable development. The aim of this research is to formulate the principles of education for sustainable development and to show the ways of their practical implementation. The research uses the comparative approach with elements of hypothetical-deductive analysis. As a result of the study, a set of interrelated principles determining education for sustainable development was defined: continuity, inclusiveness, interdisciplinarity, integration, unity of theory and practice. The results of this study can be used in educational practice in the creation and implementation of curricula and courses, as methodological recommendations for the work of volunteer organizations and educational environmental activities. The results can be used in the sustainable development programs designed by the administrative authorities. Environmental education is an important tool for implementing the concept of sustainable development. Thus, the outlined educational principles should become the basis of educational practices and technologies aimed at the formation of ecological culture and the ecologization of consciousness.</span>

Education is an important informative tool used to maintain the prevailing values of a society. It is the best thing anyone can acquire; it is an asset, an act of attaining knowledge, developing sense of analyzing and perception in preparing oneself. Quality education is one of the 17 Global Goals that make up the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. There are three types of education, namely formal, non-formal, and informal education. Vulnerable young people are often excluded from educational systems. Inclusive polices are needed to ensure access to education for poorest youth in cities and remote areas, youth affected with HIV, refugee youth, and migrant youth. This chapter explores education and sustainable development.

The article criticizes the strategy of spatial development of Russia, legally stated in the government document “The Strategy of Spatial Development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030. A Draft Concept”, released by the Ministry of Economic Development (2016). The author argues that the Strategy only states the existing situation, but does not enumerate a set of measures that are to be undertaken to strengthen the possibility of implementing any development scenario, and does not outline the ways of making assumptions a reality. The paper proves that the postulates of the Soviet settlement doctrine and urban planning theory still deeply impact the contemporary theory and practice of territorial planning.
