Assessment of Free Time Motivation on a Sample of 11 to 18 Year-Old Catalan-Speaking Spanish Adolescents

AbstractFree time is considered to be a very important aspect of adolescents’ psychosocial development. One of the instruments that has been developed to explore motivation in relation to free time activities is Baldwin and Caldwell’s (2003) Free Time Motivation Scale for Adolescents (FTMS-A), based on Ryan and Deci (2000) Self-Determination Theory. The main aim of this study is to explore the psychometric properties of the FTM S-A after its translation and adaptation to Catalan, administering it to a sample of 2,263 adolescents aged between 11 and 18 (M = 14.99; SD = 1.79) from Catalonia, Spain. To explore structural validity we follow two steps: Firstly, we analyze how the scale fits with the original model by conducting a CFA on the whole sample; secondly, we conduct an EFA on one half of the sample and a CFA on the other half in order to identify which structure best suits the sample. We also analyze convergent validity using three indicators of subjective well-being: The Personal Well-Being Index (PWI), the Satisfaction with Life scale (SWLS) and the Overall Life Satisfaction scale (OLS). The initial CFA produces a 5-factor model like the original, but with goodness of fit indices that do not reach the acceptable minimum. The EFA and the second CFA show a good fit for a 3-dimensional model (χ2(90) = 320.293; RMSEA = .048; NNFI = .92; CFI = .94) comprising introjected motivation, intrinsic motivation and amotivation. The correlations obtained between the FTMS-A and the three measures of subjective well-being scales show an association between free time motivations and this construct. Due to the model of scale used in the present study differs from the original, it is proposed that the new scale structure with 16 items be tested in the future in different cultural contexts.

AbstractThe PERMA-Profiler is a well-being instrument which combines the hedonic and eudaimonic perspective of well-being. This instrument was developed based on well-being theory (Seligman, 2012) which explained well-being as a multidimensional construct, included positive emotion, engagement, relationship, meaning, and accomplishment (PERMA). This study aimed to adapt and examine the psychometric properties of the PERMA-Profiler in Indonesian people. The participants were 439 Indonesians, aged 17-63 years old (mean age = 30,82; SD = 10,00). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test the measurement model of PERMA. The result showed that the PERMA-Profiler met the goodness of fit criteria as a multi dimensional construct with five elements. Fourteen items have satisfactory factor loading. The PERMA-Profiler has good construct reliability as well as Cronbach’s alpha. The convergent validity was shown by the positive correlation between elements of PERMA with satisfaction with life scale (SWLS) and subjective happiness scale (SHS). In addition, the significant correlation between elements and each element with a total score proved the multidimensional nature of PERMA. The overall findings showed that the adaptation version of PERMA-Profiler have a good psychometric property and could be applied to Indonesian people.Keywords: confirmatory factor analysis; PERMA; reliability; validity; well-being   AbstrakThe PERMA-Profiler merupakan instrumen kebahagiaan yang memadukan perspektif hedonik dan eudaimonik untuk mengukur kebahagiaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengadaptasi dan menguji properti psikometrik the PERMA-Profiler pada orang Indonesia. Partisipan berjumlah 439 orang Indonesia (pria = 108, wanita = 331) dan berusia antara 17- 63 tahun (usia rerata = 30,82 tahun; SD = 10,00). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) digunakan untuk menguji model pengukuran. Hasil CFA memperlihatkan the PERMA-Profiler memenuhi kriteria kecocokan model sebagai konstruk multidimensi yang terdiri dari lima elemen. Terdapat 14 dari 15 aitem yang valid. Keempatbelas aitem juga yang mengukur satu konstruk tunggal yaitu well-being. The PERMA-Profiler juga memperlihatkan reliabilitas komposit dan konsistensi internal yang memuaskan. Korelasi positif yang signifikan dengan pengukuran skala kepuasan hidup dan skala kebahagiaan umum menunjukkan PERMA-Profiler memenuhi validitas konvergen. Setiap dimensi berkorelasi signifikan satu sama lain dan dengan skor total. In the subjective well-being (SWB) measurement model, there are three models used by researchers, namely one-factor model (unidimension), two-factors model, and three-factor model. This study aims to test the validity and reliability of the SWB measure and compare the measurement model of SWB with confirmatory factor analysis method. The total subjects used in this study were 1,003 people with an age range of 14 - 50 years. Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) were used as SWB measurements. The results showed all dimensions have Alpha reliability above 0.80 with item-total correlation above 0.3. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed that all items are well distributed to their  dimensions with a factor loading above 0.4. Thus the scale in this study has satisfactory validity and reliability. The comparison of three hypothetical model showed that the three-factor model has the best model fit compared to the other two models. This finding provides evidence that the three components in the SWB construct are separate and independent of each other.

There were not many adequate instruments to measure gratitude for the Indonesian people, especially the Muslim community. The purpose of this study is to develop the Islamic Gratitude Scale (IGS-10) by conducted an adequate set of tests. A total of 1218 respondents from students and workers participated on this study. This study found that the Islamic Gratitude Scale (IGS-10) has a good reliability (α= 0.863), good content validity and good factorial validity. The exploratory factor analysis found that IGS-10 has two factors, extrinsic gratitude (α= 0.845) and intrinsic gratitude (α= 0.761). Several sets of correlation tests found that IGS-10 has a good convergent validity, IGS-10 correlates with the Gratitude Questionerre (GQ-6), Gratitude Resentment and Appreciation Scale - Short Form (GRAT-SF), and gratitude toward God. Furthermore, IGS-10 correlated with Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS), Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire - Appearance Scale (MBSRQ - US), and subjective well-being. This finding indicated that IGS-10 has a good cirterion-related validity. But unfortunately, IGS-10 did not correlate with Adolescents’ Self-concept Short Scale (ASCSS), optimism scale (LOT-R) and The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). IGS-10 was associated with Social Desirability Scale (SDS) with low correlation. To develop this scale the next process that can be done is norming, so that the IGS-10 will become a scale that can be used widely and more convincingly.

Aim. The aim of this paper is to define the correlation between social evaluation and personal well-being.  Methods. The study involved the citizens of Chernihiv (average age – 31.5 years old): 91 people in total, 37 men and 54 women. The following methods were used: the scale of satisfaction with life scale by Diener, as adapted by Leontiev and Osin (2008); questionnaire of parameters of subjective social well-being by Danylchenko (2015); subjective life satisfaction scale by Lybyna (2008), questionnaire on the peculiarities of evaluation by other people by Danylchenko (2019). Results and conclusion. In Ukrainian society, the most important reference groups are parents and a spouse, while friends and colleagues play a comparatively smaller role. All these groups are more likely to give positive and neutral social evaluations. However, negative evaluations are more likely to come from colleagues and friends, and positive – from family. There are differences in indicators of subjective well-being, social acceptance (as a measure of social well-being) and competence between people who are assessed predominantly positively and predominantly negatively. Subjective well-being is reduced reproaches from reference groups. Praise contributes to the enhancement of subjective social well-being Comparison with other people and the existence of a role model reduces psychological well-being. The filter for the perception of positive and negative evaluations from the social environment is a person’s self-acceptance.

We validated the psychometric properties of the Riverside Life Satisfaction Scale for Turkish culture. A standard back-translation procedure was performed. A stratified sample ( N = 493; age range = 18–70 years) was selected from North Cyprus. Results showed that one-factor model for the Riverside Life Satisfaction Scale was a good fit. Composite reliability was .77 and factor loadings were significant (.515–.825). Significant correlations were found between the scale and the Satisfaction With Life Scale, Psychological Well-Being Scale–Short Form, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, and extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism subscales of the Big Five Inventory. The Riverside Life Satisfaction Scale is an up-to-date, standard, and powerful alternative scale that is statistically strong, easy-to-apply, and its reversed items were free from measurement bias. It is thus valid and reliable to use in Turkish culture, indicating the cross-cultural value of the current study.

Organizational Justice has the potential to create major impact on organizations and employees alike. These include greater commitment, trust, enhanced job performance, more citizenship behaviors and less number of conflicts. It has been reported that employees seem to have a universal concern for Justice that transcends the self and that many are subject to biases at various point of time in their work life. Sometimes these biases lead to adverse outcomes including decreased level of subjective well-being. Subjective well-being is a broad category that includes life satisfaction, positive affect, and low negative affect, such as anger, sadness and fear. Thus to study the relationship between Organizational justice and subjective well-being, a sample of 88 employees working in Private Universities of NCR region were examined. For this purpose, the Organizational Justice scales consisting of Measure of Procedural & Interactional Justice and Distributive Justice Index scale by Moorman, Blakely & Niehoff (1998) and Subjective Wellbeing Scales inclusive of the Satisfaction with Life Scale(SWLS),Scale of Positive and Negative Experience(SPANE) and Flourishing Scale (FS) by Ed Diener (2004)were used. Results indicate significant relationship between the three types of Organizational justice and subjective well-being of employees.

(1) Background: Early intervention professionals are involved in the reconceptualisation of their service due to the exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, within the family context and aware of the children’s needs, with an impact on their emotional well-being to ensure sustainability. An analysis of their socio–emotional profile and training is increasingly needed to face their professional development effectively; (2) Methods: In this study, 209 early intervention professionals participated (n = 209), with an average age of 37.62 (±9.02). The following instruments were used: Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS-S) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9). The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between early intervention (EI) and engagement as predictors of greater life satisfaction using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). (3) Results: There exists a relationship between some dimensions of the instruments used (p < 0.01). The model obtained good structural validity (χ² = 3.264; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) =.021; Goodness-of-Fit Index (GFI) = 0.991; Comparative Goodness of Fit Index (CFI) = 0.999; Incremental Fit Index (IFI) = 0.999). Subsequently, the results described above were verified through Bayesian statistics, thereby reinforcing the evidence provided; (4) Conclusions: Findings highlight the importance of providing professionals with emotional tools and strategies, from the educational context, in order to carry out their activity effectively and ensure the sustainability within the current situation, while remaining fully engaged.

This study aimed to elucidate how career adaptability (CA) affects subjective well-being by focusing on the psychological adjustment of middle-aged and older workers. Two web-based surveys were conducted at 1-year and 3-month intervals with 3540 workers aged 40 to 64 years, including those eligible for both position-retirement and reemployment. Factor analysis of CA in the first wave extracted two factors “control and confidence” and “concern and curiosity”. Multiple regression analysis, adjusted for important covariates, was conducted with the overall CA and the two factors of CA as the independent variables, and scores of the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) as the dependent variable. For satisfaction with life, only concern and curiosity had a significant positive association, while control and confidence had no significant association. Analysis by employment stage indicated that only concern and curiosity had a significant positive association with satisfaction with life, while control and confidence had no significant association with any employment stage. The results suggest that the effect of CA on satisfaction with life remains the same, even among those who are position-retired or reemployed at the end of their vocational lives, which is a transition period in their lives.

ABSTRACT: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FORGIVENESS AND SUBJECTIVE WELL BEING AMONG ORPHANAGE ADOLESCENTSThis study aims to determine the relationship between forgiveness and subjective well-being in adolescents who are in the orphanage, through the three components contained in it, i.e. life satisfaction, positive affect and negative affect. The subjects of this study were 58 adolescents in the Budi Mulya Muhammadiyah Sukarame orphanage. Data collection method using three scales, those are Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and Possitive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). The data analysis technique used is the product moment correlation. The results of the analysis of this study explain that there is a positive relationship between forgiveness and subjective well-being through the three components in SWB. Sexual Harassment at workplace (SHW) is a global phenomenon. However, there has been no prior research on the association of SHW and subjective well-being (SWB) of working women in Pakistan. The SWB is an umbrella term that encompasses concepts such as satisfaction with life (SWL) and subjective happiness (SbH). The 200 working women from the public and private sector organizations in Pakistan were recruited randomly. The Sexual Harassment Experience Questionnaire, The Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Subjective Happiness Scale were administered as the main measures. The study met all the ethical considerations. The data was analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and expressed as baseline characteristics, correlation analysis and t tests. There was statistically significant negative relationship of SHW with SWL and SbH in working women. The young age, high school or less education, single marital status, and working in private sector organization were significantly associated with the increased and decreased experience of SHW and SWB respectively. The study recommended the adoption of anti SHW laws by the working sector and the periodic screening of working women for SWB so as to reduce the phenomenon of SHW and enhance the SWL and SbH in working women.
