AbstractAlthough materials and processes are different from biological cells’, brain mimicries led to tremendous achievements in parallel information processing via neuromorphic engineering. Inexistent in electronics, we emulate dendritic morphogenesis by electropolymerization in water, aiming in operando material modification for hardware learning. Systematic study of applied voltage-pulse parameters details on tuning independently morphological aspects of micrometric dendrites’: fractal number, branching degree, asymmetry, density or length. Growths time-lapse image processing shows spatial features to be dynamically dependent, and expand distinctively before and after conductive bridging with two electro-generated dendrites. Circuit-element analysis and impedance spectroscopy confirms their morphological control in temporal windows where growth kinetics is finely perturbed by the input frequency and duty cycle. By the emulation of one’s most preponderant mechanisms for brain’s long-term memory, its implementation in vicinity of sensing arrays, neural probes or biochips shall greatly optimize computational costs and recognition required to classify high-dimensional patterns from complex environments.

In this work, multifractal methods have been successfully used to characterize the temporal fluctuations of daily Jiuzhai Valley domestic and foreign tourists before and after Wenchuan earthquake in China. We used multifractal detrending moving average method (MF-DMA). It showed that Jiuzhai Valley tourism markets are characterized by long-term memory and multifractal nature in. Moreover, the major sources of multifractality are studied. Based on the concept of sliding window, the time evolutions of the multifractal behavior of domestic and foreign tourists were analyzed and the influence of Wenchuan earthquake on Jiuzhai Valley tourism system dynamics were evaluated quantitatively. The study indicates that the inherent dynamical mechanism of Jiuzhai Valley tourism system has not been fundamentally changed from long views, although Jiuzhai Valley tourism system was seriously affected by the Wenchuan earthquake. Jiuzhai Valley tourism system has the ability to restore to its previous state in the short term.

Background: Post-cesarean mothers often experience anxiety and discomfort due to long-term pain. The combination of hypnobreastfeeding and acupressure is considered to be effective in reducing anxiety and pain levels. Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of combination of hypnobreastfeeding and acupressure on anxiety and pain levels in post-caesarean mothers.Methods: This study was a true experiment with pretest-posttest control group design, conducted in the Ambarawa Public Hospital on 5 November to 9 December 2016. There were 36 participants selected using stratified random sampling, with 18 assigned in the experiment and control group. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and wilcoxon test.Results: There were statistically significant differences of anxiety and pain levels before and after intervention in the experiment and control group with p-value 0.001 (<0.05).Conclusion: The combination of hypnobreastfeeding and acupressure has a significant effect in reducing anxiety and pain levels in post-cesarean mothers. This intervention could be applied as an alternative therapy in treating post-caesarean mothers.

The article presents the results of the preliminary survey and pilot application of the methodological toolkit for the improvement of certain competencies, which are part of the soft skills of professionals in the long-term care sector in Bulgaria. Based on the survey the authors define 2 target competencies, namely conflict management and empathic interaction. These skills are considered a part of the scope of emotional intelligence and its constituent dimensions and authors use Daniel Goleman’s ability-based model as a base for their conceptual frame and theoretical explanations. In order to present their thesis, the authors perform a soft skill analysis of the long-term care sector; define the construct emotional intelligence and justify their choice of a theoretical model for the subsequent survey. On this basis, they develop a training design for the development of these skills and present the results achieved through its pilot application. The study includes 62 participants randomly divided into a test and control groups. The level of targeted skills is measured (before and after) and the authors report a significant increase in those skills (empathic interaction, net effect 1.87; conflict management, net effect 1.75). In conclusion, the authors open a discussion on the importance of emotional management as an essential part of any profession related to health care and underline its importance for the quality of caregiving services.

AbstractEarly separation of preterm infants from their mothers has adverse, long-term neurodevelopmental consequences. We investigated the effects of daily maternal separation (MS) of rat pups from postnatal days 2–10 (PND2–10) on neurobehavioural responses to brief isolation at PND12 compared with pups receiving controlled handling without MS. Ultrasonic vocalizations (USV) were measured at PND12 during two, 3-minute isolations occurring immediately before and after a 3-minute maternal reunion. There were no significant differences in acoustic characteristics between MS and control animals in the first isolation. However, in the second isolation, MS pups produced a greater proportion of high (~60 kHz) vs low (~40 kHz) frequency calls. During this isolation, control pups made longer and louder low frequency calls compared to the first isolation, whereas MS pups did the opposite. Maternal behaviour of control and MS mothers modulated pup acoustic characteristics in opposite directions; higher maternal care was associated with more low frequency calls in control pups but more high frequency calls in MS pups. We hypothesize that MS results in USV emission patterns reflective of a greater stress response to isolation. This translational model can be used to identify mechanisms and interventions that may be exploited to overcome the negative, long-term effects of MS.

The purpose of this paper is to test whether there exists a long-term memory volatility characteristics of housing price. The paper based on the data ranging of Zhengzhou from January 2004 to May 2014, by adopting the FIGARCH model, empirically studies and analysis this characteristics. The research results indicate that the price fluctuation of Zhengzhou commodity homes exist effect of cluster and long-term memory characteristic. FIGARCH model can capture the long memory well, and can predict the future price of commodity residential house for a period of time .Therefore, FIGARCH model can well catch long-term memory and forecast the commodity housing price in the future period of time, which illustrates that external shocks have long-standing impact on the volatility of commodity housing price as well, reaching the conclusion that long-effect Mechanism of regulation and control should be set and developed during the macro-control of the government.

21 Background: Primary Palliative Care (PPC) denotes basic PC competencies; whereas secondary PC (SPC) denotes consultant expertise. PPC competency includes basic symptom assessment/management; fundamental communication skills; and identification of patients for SPC. ASCO recommends early concurrent PC in advanced cancer/high symptom burden as it improves quality of life, symptom management, and care satisfaction. Because PC need exceeds availability of SPC providers, PPC proficiency by oncologists is essential. To enhance Hematology-Oncology (HO) fellows’ clinical experience through more effective PC training/utilization, we piloted an integrated fellows’ pre-clinic conference. Methods: HO fellows’ pre-clinic conferences were divided into intervention and control groups. Over 8 weeks, the PC fellow participated in interdisciplinary discussion for 2 weekly 1-hour conferences. The PC fellow provided PPC education via brief formal and informal didactics and identified patients for SPC referral. All HO fellows were surveyed before and after the intervention to assess comfort level with PPC and SPC referral. The survey used Likert-type scales and short-answer questions. Results: All HO fellows (N=10) voluntarily participated: 6 in the intervention group (IG), and 4 in the control group (CG). The IG demonstrated clearly enhanced comfort level with managing symptoms by improving in 100% of PPC categories after the intervention compared to 27% in the CG. Referral to SPC also increased in the IG, while it decreased in the CG. All HO fellows in the IG liked the PC integration, wanted to continue it, and wanted SPC availability in their future practice. Conclusions: This integration not only enhanced HO fellows’ PPC training and increased referral to SPC; it also fostered a partnership between HO and PC providers early in their careers. Such collaborative efforts are likely to improve long-term comprehensive cancer care as well as patient and provider satisfaction. Further study is merited and should include multiple centers and patient evaluations.

We tested the hypothesis that cytoskeletal reorganization induced by cyclic strain increases cytoskeletal stiffness (G′). G′ was measured by optical magnetic twisting cytometry in control cells and cells that had received mechanical strain for 10–12 days. G′ was measured before and after both contractile and relaxant agonists, and in the strained cells both parallel (Para) and perpendicular (Perp) to the aligned cytoskeleton. Before activation, G′ Para was 24 ± 5% (± SE) greater compared with Perp ( P < 0.05), and 35% ± 6 greater compared with control (Cont, P < 0.01). The difference between strained and control cells was enhanced by KCl, increasing G′ 171 ± 7% Para compared with 125 ± 6% Perp and 129 ± 8% Cont ( P < 10-5 both cases). The decrease in G′ from baseline due to relaxant agonists isoproterenol and dibutyryl cAMP was similar in all groups. Long-term oscillatory loading of airway smooth muscle (ASM) cells caused stiffness to increase and become anisotropic. These findings are consistent with the hypothesis that cytoskeletal reorganization can enhance ASM stiffness and contractility. They imply, furthermore, that oscillatory loading of ASM may contribute to airway narrowing and failure of airway dilation in asthma.

Visual perception can be affected by training mental representations. However, it remains unclear if training procedures can also affect the quality of mental representations. To investigate if training enhances the fidelity of mental representations retrieved from visual long-term memory (VLTM), we used a task including object-color associations with a continuous response-space. We tested 15 participants in a training group, and 15 participants in a control group. Training consisted of six training runs executed on three consecutive days. Before and after training, we assessed accessibility and fidelity of mental representations in VLTM, and of single objects in visual short-term memory (VSTM). Not only accessibility to mental representation but also their fidelity increased across training and transferred to novel object-color associations in VLTM and VSTM after training. At the end of the training, fidelity of VLTM representations were virtually identical to fidelity of VSTM representations. We conclude, that training object-color associations does not only improve the accessibility of VLTM representations, but also their fidelity based on perceptual plasticity of the visual system.

The capacity to remember temporal relationships between different events is essential to episodic memory, but little is currently known about its underlying mechanisms. We performed time-lapse imaging of thousands of neurons over weeks in the hippocampal CA1 of mice as they repeatedly visited two distinct environments. Longitudinal analysis exposed ongoing environment-independent evolution of episodic representations, despite stable place field locations and constant remapping between the two environments. These dynamics time-stamped experienced events via neuronal ensembles that had cellular composition and activity patterns unique to specific points in time. Temporally close episodes shared a common timestamp regardless of the spatial context in which they occurred. Temporally remote episodes had distinct timestamps, even if they occurred within the same spatial context. Our results suggest that days-scale hippocampal ensemble dynamics could support the formation of a mental timeline in which experienced events could be mnemonically associated or dissociated based on their temporal distance.
