We report the electrochemical characterisation of well-defined graphene samples, prepared by mechanical exfoliation. Mechanical exfoliation is the method of choice for high purity graphene samples, despite the inherent complexity of the approach and the small scale of the resultant flakes. However, one important, yet presently unclear area, is the role of adsorbates such as processing residue, on the properties of the graphene layer. We report high resolution microscopic and electrochemical characterisation of a variety of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) transferred graphene samples, with the explicit aim of investigating the relationship between electrochemical activity and sample purity.

This research develops a difference-in-differences (DID) model to explore the relationship between environmental policy (The Measures for the Administration of Permits for the Discharge of Key Water Pollutants in the Huaihe and Taihu River Basins, MAPD) and the performance of firms involved in the paper and paper products industry (MPP) in China. Cost and innovation are introduced as mediators to explore the mediating effects. A firm-level dataset from 1998 to 2007 is adopted for empirical study. The findings support the positive role of the MAPD, and the average treatment effect is 0.016.The heterogeneity analysis shows that the MAPD exerts a positive impact on non-state-owned and small-scale enterprises, with coefficients of 0.018 and 0.021, respectively. Moreover, MAPD increases enterprise costs harming firm performance. On the other hand, it can promote firm performance by improving innovation ability.

At the boundary of a large expanding shell in Eridanus around l = 187°, b = −50° the morphology observed in the HI emission is well mimicked by the 100 μm surface brightness but with associated structures offset by as much as 0.°5. A point-to-point comparison between I100μm and NHI in filaments of neutral hydrogen and dust (IR cirrus) produces only a weak dependence. However, when I100μm at a cirrus dust peak is compared with NHI at the associated H i peak, a relationship closer to that reported by other workers is found. Preliminary CO observations have set low limits on the molecular gas in these filaments. Since the H i and dust in our region are associated with a large expanding shell (or superbubble), shocks may be responsible for separation of gas and dust. The existence of small-scale structure in both the HI and IR is noted. We conclude that attempts to correlate HI and IR must invoke high-resolution area surveys.

ABSTRACT A set of 49 high-resolution (≤2.2 Å) structures of the TEM, SHV, and CTX-M class A β-lactamase families was systematically analyzed to investigate the role of conserved water molecules in the stabilization of the Ω-loop. Overall, 13 water molecules were found to be conserved in at least 45 structures, including two water positions which were found to be conserved in all structures. Of the 13 conserved water molecules, 6 are located at the Ω-loop, forming a dense cluster with hydrogen bonds to residues at the Ω-loop as well as to the rest of the protein. This layer of conserved water molecules is packed between the Ω-loop and the rest of the protein and acts as structural glue, which could reduce the flexibility of the Ω-loop. A correlation between conserved water molecules and conserved protein residues could in general not be detected, with the exception of the conserved water molecules at the Ω-loop. Furthermore, the evolutionary relationship between the three families, derived from the number of conserved water molecules, is similar to the relationship derived from phylogenetic analysis.

Abstract Background The impact of dementia on communication capabilities can result in difficulties in social interactions and between people with dementia and their conversation partner, as initiating and maintaining conversations becomes increasingly challenging. The role of technology in promoting social health and participation for people with dementia is increasing, but the usage on technological devices as a third party in social interactions to enhance communication quality is still in its infancy. The objective of this literature review is to provide a comprehensive description of technology-driven interventions for people with dementia and their conversation partners to enhance communication and facilitate positive social interactions. Methods A systematic search was conducted using PubMed, CINAHL and PsycINFO, where titles and abstracts were screened by two researchers independently. The reference lists of initially identified papers were hand-searched for further relevant studies. Quality appraisal of the included studies was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool.Results Twenty-six papers were included., where the most common technologies to facilitate communication and interactions were tablet-computers (n=11), social robots (n=7) and PCs (n=4). By analyzing the impacts of the device(s) on social interaction and communication, five major themes emerged: i) increased interaction; ii) better understanding of the person with dementia; iii) improved conversational quality; iv) reducing pressure on the conversation partner; and v) a conversational platform.Conclusion While the majority of the included studies are small-scale, they indicate promising findings on the potential of technology in helping dyads to interact in a way that relieves strain on the caregiver, enhances the relationship and engages people with dementia in social activities. Rigorous investigation using standard, comparable measurements is needed to demonstrate the effects of technological solutions, taking on the perspective on caregiving dyads as an entity rather than looking at outcomes for one member of the dyad in isolation.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between Scrum framework and risk management processes in Malaysia. Companies discuss the management based on a concerned business scale and the influence risk management in Malaysia Information technology projects success. This research is targeting Information technology firms and technology projects. Were researched through guarantee inside and out comprehension of the postulation foundation. In the outcome segment, the author influences a few proposals for the case to small-scale organizations to actualize ventures and to develop risk management successfully. The phases of risk management, in particular the step of risk detection, have a detrimental impact on project performance. Furthermore, risk control has its own risks as a mechanism. This makes it impossible to know if risk management is an appropriate approach in the IT production process for managing and minimizing risks. The study shows the effect of risk management in IT businesses is utilized in the Scrum

<p>The execution of large-scale (i.e., continental or global) hydraulic modeling is nowadays a reality thanks to the increasing computational capacity, data availability, as well as understanding of essential physical dynamics. Such achievements are typically associated to a compromise in terms of model resolutions (the finer being of few tens of meters, with a coarsened representation of the terrain) and, thus, accuracy on representing the topographic peculiarities of the flood-prone areas. Nevertheless, the experience gained observing the dynamics of past inundations highlights the role of small-scale topographic features (e.g., minor embankments, road deck, railways, etc.) in driving the flow paths. Recent advances on automated identification of flood defense from high resolution digital elevation model paved the way to include hydraulically relevant features (e.g., main levees) while preserving the model resolution suitable for large-scale applications (Wing et al, 2020). <br>The present study extends this approach to flood-prone areas by investigating how the automatic detection of minor topographic discontinuities can enhance the estimation of flood dynamics of large-scale models. Taking advantage of high-resolution topographic data (i.e., 1-2 m) the approach automatically detects hydraulically relevant features and preserves their height while coarsening the resolution of the terrain used into the hydraulic model. The impact of such approach on the inundation dynamic is tested referring to three different case-studies that recently experienced riverine flooding: Secchia and Enza rivers (2014, 2017, respectively; Italy), Des Moines (Iowa, USA). The results confirm the relevance of small-scale topographic features, which, when considered, ensure a high correspondence to observations and local models. The element of strength of the presented approach is that such performances are ensured without requiring the adoption of high grid resolutions, and thus, not affecting the overall computational costs.</p>

This research was carried out in Gezira State, Sudan. The objective of this research is to assess the role of extension officers in transferring agricultural services and innovations to the farmers. Field survey was used to collect the data by using structured questionnaire which designed and pre-tested. Secondary data was collected from books, scientific journals and relevant documents. Based on Steven Samson equation the sample size were 36 extension officers selected by using quota sample technique. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis depends on descriptive statistics, correlation, and Regression analysis. The findings indicated that the high percentages (47%) of extension officers their experiences between 11 to 15 years and 33% had no training courses. 81% of the respondents had strong-direct links with the farmers, and their source of information of inputs and technical packages was the research centres (75%). The extension officers explained that they had high cost in transferring information to the farmers, required information and more interested partners on the feedback was research institution (83%). Correlation test shown personal characters, business career had significant correlation with the link with the research (.031) the value (R=.359), high significantly correlated between the nature of the relationship with farmers and link with research sig (.001) value of correlation (.534). The results of regression test indicated that the link with research had impact with significant value (.427beat) sig (.049) other partners had no significant. Recommendations: Based on the findings the research recommends: clear direct link for the extension officers with all agricultural partners in order to facilitate the delivery of information to the farmers. Private sector should involve in designing the extension policy and continuing training sessions have to be held to all extension officers.

This study concerns children's representational knowledge, more specifically, their ‘invented notations’ of music. A small-scale empirical study of four 5-year-old children and their teachers working on the representation of music is reported. The challenges posed by the teachers and how the children respond to these challenges are analysed. The teachers challenge the children to explain their understanding and use contrast to direct children's attention towards distinctions and important terms in the domain of music. The children use coloured geometrical shapes on paper and a sequence of building blocks to represent music. By means of these visuospatial representations, sounding and conversing about them, the children are able to communicate their understanding of the relationship between representation (sign) and sound. The role of external representations in the development of children's musical knowledge is discussed.

The purpose of this paper is to report the result of a study aimed at the interrelationship between small scale indusry (SSI’s) and large scale industri (LSI’s) in Indonesia. The role of the SSI’s<br />absorbed 83,6 million workers (Bapenas, 2005) is very important but its survival could be linked with its input and its output. As Indonesia occupied by more than 300 etnics, it is very possible<br />if the SSI’s survival is linked to Indonesia cultural and art. Data were collected from around 200 companies that have linkage with almost the whole Metallurgical Industries in Indonesia both the large and the small one. System approach and multiple regression were used to analysis the relationship between the SSI’s and the LSI’s. The survival of the SSI’s and LSI’s has no different in concept, but in practice, they may not be met as the different ability to coordinate production factors. communication between them has yet to be the method for exchange information. The government’s role which previously predicted has a strong influence to this cooperation appear very weak. The study indicates that the interrelationship between the LSI’s and the SSI’s is very possible if the Indonesian economy is developed based on tourist industry. The study based on the data collected within metallurgical industry might be less representative to reflect the relationship between the LSI’s and SSI’s throughout industries. This study has contributed to develope an interrelationship between the SSI’s and the LSI’s based on sistem approach which involve the cultural environment

Music and sound are key to creating film trailers that are coherent pieces of media because the visual and narrative content is so fragmented in trailers. Deaville and Malkinson note that sync points “tend to occur with greater frequency in trailers than in narrative films” (Chion, 1994). This chapter develops this claim further: Not only are sync points more frequent in trailers than in narrative films, but also they more commonly extend to small-scale characteristics such as the beat and rhythm of the music. Using a corpus of fifty contemporary action film trailers, this chapter demonstrates the integral role of “tightly organized synchronization” (Watts, 2018) in unifying and organizing a trailer’s materials into a compact audiovisual experience, as well as outlining common trailer structures. This work begins to unpack the relationship between music, narrative, and spectacle that is imperative to understanding how contemporary trailers go beyond promoting and previewing the feature film.
