Practical performance assessment is an important part of the learning process, but several obstacles are found in its implementation. The objectives of this study are (1) to develop constructivism-based performance assessment instruments for class VII Yunior High School in  Life Organization subject,  (2) to describe aspects that need to be made in constructivism-based practical performance assessment instruments, and (3) to describe teacher responses in using constructivism-based practical performance assessment instruments. This research is a development research using a 4D model, the stages are defining, design, development and distribution. The trial subjects in this study consisted of 10 students for small group trials and 40 students for large group trials. The indicators used in the study include aspects related to the development of constructivist life-based practicum assessment instruments. Instrument used was a questionnaire to reveal the response of teachers and students to practical performance assessment instruments. The results of the data analysis showed that the content feasibility value is 86.31% at the intervals of 48.33 which means it is feasible to use. Most students gave a positive response to the assessment sheet given (96.67%), a small portion gave a negative response (33.3%). Because the average positive response of students is more than 75%, the performance assessment instrument is considered feasible to be applied.

Precision agriculture has become a promising paradigm to transform modern agriculture. The recent revolution in big data and Internet-of-Things (IoT) provides unprecedented benefits including optimizing yield, minimizing environmental impact, and reducing cost. However, the mass collection of farm data in IoT applications raises serious concerns about potential privacy leakage that may harm the farmers’ welfare. In this work, we propose a novel scalable and private geo-distance evaluation system, called SPRIDE, to allow application servers to provide geographic-based services by computing the distances among sensors and farms privately. The servers determine the distances without learning any additional information about their locations. The key idea of SPRIDE is to perform efficient distance measurement and distance comparison on encrypted locations over a sphere by leveraging a homomorphic cryptosystem. To serve a large user base, we further propose SPRIDE+ with novel and practical performance enhancements based on pre-computation of cryptographic elements. Through extensive experiments using real-world datasets, we show SPRIDE+ achieves private distance evaluation on a large network of farms, attaining 3+ times runtime performance improvement over existing techniques. We further show SPRIDE+ can run on resource-constrained mobile devices, which offers a practical solution for privacy-preserving precision agriculture IoT applications.

AbstractThis short review summarizes our recent progress in fiber-shaped lithium-ion batteries and lithium-air batteries based on carbon nanotube hybrid fiber electrodes. The fiber architecture allows batteries to be deformable in all dimensions and bear various deformations such as bending, tying, twisting and even stretching. They are scaled up and further woven into breathable, flexible, stretchable and shape-memory textiles to effectively meet the requirements of modern electronics such as wearable products.

AbstractWe introduce a new approach, called Isolate-Detect (ID), for the consistent estimation of the number and location of multiple generalized change-points in noisy data sequences. Examples of signal changes that ID can deal with are changes in the mean of a piecewise-constant signal and changes, continuous or not, in the linear trend. The number of change-points can increase with the sample size. Our method is based on an isolation technique, which prevents the consideration of intervals that contain more than one change-point. This isolation enhances ID’s accuracy as it allows for detection in the presence of frequent changes of possibly small magnitudes. In ID, model selection is carried out via thresholding, or an information criterion, or SDLL, or a hybrid involving the former two. The hybrid model selection leads to a general method with very good practical performance and minimal parameter choice. In the scenarios tested, ID is at least as accurate as the state-of-the-art methods; most of the times it outperforms them. ID is implemented in the R packages IDetect and breakfast, available from CRAN.

The aim of this study was to synthesize the concepts from empirical studies and analyze, compare and interrelate them with normative ethics. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the Health and Medical Service Act are normative ethics. Five concepts were used in the analysis; three from the grounded theory studies and two from the theoretical framework on normative ethics. A simultaneous concept analysis resulted in five outcomes: interconnectedness, interdependence, corroboratedness, completeness and good care are all related to the empirical perspective of the nurse’s interaction with the older patient, and the normative perspective, i.e. that found in ICN code and SFS law. Empirical ethics and normative ethics are intertwined according to the findings of this study. Normative ethics influence the nurse’s practical performance and could be supporting documents for nurses as professionals.
