A series of Pt-Ce-Ba/γ-Al2O3and Mn-Ce/γ-Al2O3catalysts were synthesized by a sol-gel method and the samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDS. The effect of Mn-Ce/γ-Al2O3on the storage and reduction of NOxover Pt-Ce-Ba/γ-Al2O3catalysts was studied in a fix-bed reactor with simulation gases NO, O2, and N2. The results indicated that NO oxidation to NO2was reduced with the increase of inlet NO concentration, which was up to 83% when the concentration of NO was 500 ppm but reduced to 76% with the concentration of NO increasing to 1000 ppm. Comparing with the Pt-Ce-Ba/γ-Al2O3catalysts, the rate of NOxstorage and reduction was remarkably increased over Pt-Ce-Ba/γ-Al2O3combined with Mn-Ce/γ-Al2O3catalysts. However, the reductant used for NOxreduction reaction over Pt-Ce-Ba/γ-Al2O3catalysts was consumed under the treatment of Mn-Ce/γ-Al2O3catalyst, which caused the NOxconversion to obviously drop, but the rate of NOxabsorption declined slightly.

Ultrafine silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) fiber mats were prepared through a sol–gel method combined electrospinning technique. The influence of sol–gel solution viscosity on its spinnability has been studied. By partially removing solvents after the sol–gel preparation, the solution could be stably spun and resulted in fiber mats with an average fiber diameter of 560 nm. The formation, morphology and composition of the SiOC fiber mats have been studied by TGA, FT-IR, SEM, XPS and XRD. Due to flexibility and free-standing property, the SiOC fiber mats will have a wide range of applications.

The figure presented the catalytic performances of composite supported V2O5–TiO2–SiO2 catalyst prepared by improved sol–gel method. V2O5–TiO2–SiO2 catalyst showed efficient activity of 51% methanol conversion and 99% DMM selectivity at 413 K.

One sol-gel method is explored to prepare red, green and blue (RGB) fluorescent dyes co-doped nanoporous silica at low temperature in air. All of the dyes covers blue-emitting 2, 5-bis (5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)- thiophene (BBOT), green-emitting Coumarin 152A (Coumarin) and red-emitting Lumogen red R305 (Lumogen), contributing to the photoluminescence (PL) of the hybrid. As a key factor, the molar ratio of reactants TEOS/Dioxane/ H2O is 3:12:4 during the sol-gel process. The maximum doping concentration of dyes is the result of dyes dispersing into nanoporous silica, which supported by Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) technology. So this sol-gel preparation can enrich the inorganic luminescent materials at a simple style, especially for PL materials or electroluminescent (EL) materials in thin films state.
