This article analyzes the tourism potential and ecological tourism development in Kazakhstan on the example of the Kostanay region. To analyze the consumers of tourism products and services in the region, a sociological survey was conducted to determine the preferences of local residents. The aim of this study is to determine the interests, potential and attitude of the domestic market to the ecological tourism development in Kazakhstan. According to the results, it was revealed that the Kostanay region’s natural and historical sights has a rich potential for cultural and natural heritage. However, in the region there are problems of the further ecological tourism development: underdeveloped tourism infrastructure; the lack of systematic measures for the tourism development by the state body; problems with training for the industry.

This study used 268 household and 13 key informant interviews to get the views of Livingstone city residents on economic, environmental and sociocultural effects of tourism on local households and the city. Results show very few economic benefits at household level with residents perceiving big tourism-related businesses, the state and its officials to be the main beneficiaries. Although tourists were commended for helping vulnerable residents, they were blamed for contributing to prostitution and diseases by local residents; and were targeted for petty thefts by unemployed youths. Sociocultural effects of tourism are significant for residents but are routinely ignored or glossed over by tourism development practitioners. Tourism had resulted in a general improvement in the city environs. It is concluded that tourism development projects must target increased benefits for residents to increase benevolent attitudes from them towards tourism in their city, and to ensure a more sustainable variant of tourism is achieved in the tourist capital.

ABSTRACTOne area that has tourism potential is Kledung District, Temanggung Regency. According to the Regional Tourism Development Master Plan (RIPPDA) of Temanggung Regency in 2012, this area is included in the Regency Strategic Tourism Area (KSPK) of Kledung and its surroundings with the theme of the Sindoro Sumbing foot tourism. Given the location and geographical position which is on the main tourist route of Yogya - Borobudur - Dieng, this is an indication of the great potential for Kledung Village in tourism development. One of the tourist objects in Kledung Village is Embung Kledung. With a panoramic view of the natural scenery of mountains and very beautiful waters and the surrounding biodiversity, this area is very potential to be developed as a tourist attraction. However, the problems that occur are limited access from the main road to tourist objects and limited supporting facilities for tourist objects. With the increasing number of visitors, a more efficient, precise, and sustainable direction for the use of space is needed to preserve nature as its main attraction. This study aims to provide directions/alternatives for the development of the Embung Kledung Tourism Object based on ecological tourism (ecotourism) which maintains natural preservation as its main attraction but can provide economic and social benefits for the local community. With a mixed research methodology, it produces several things: 1). The Ecotourism concept that is applied takes into account 5 (five) elements, namely, environment, community, education and experience, sustainability, and management; 2). Priority infrastructure needs are circulation arrangement, additional electricity capacity, waste handling, and waste management; 3) Four clusters development were found and 28 types of facilities were required. Keywords: Embung Kledung, Ecotourism Concept, Tourism Object Development.ABSTRAKSalah satu daerah yang memiliki potensi pariwisata adalah Kecamatan Kledung, Kabupaten Temanggung. The value co-creation behavior of residents can contribute to the sustainable development of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) tourism. This paper aims to provide a theoretical framework that uses “cognition–affection–behavior” theory to explain how the two variables of tourism development perception and emotional solidarity affect the value co-creation participation behavior of the local residents in the context of intangible cultural heritage tourism while considering the mediating role of emotional solidarity. This study empirically investigates Meizhou Island in Fujian Province, China as an example by using a structural equation model (SEM). Results show that the perception of local residents toward the benefits of tourism development has a significant positive impact on their emotional solidarity and value co-creation participation behavior, whereas their perception toward the costs of tourism development has a significant negative impact. In addition, the emotional solidarity of these residents has a significant positive impact on their value co-creation participation and plays a mediating role in the relationship between the tourism development perceptions of local residents and their value co-creation participation behavior. This study has important theoretical and practical significance for the management of ICH tourist destinations.
