In order to further understand the impact of industrial mining on the environment, this study conducted environmental monitoring on the radionuclide thorium content in a water body in an industrial mining area in Gansu Province, aiming to fully understand the occurrence of radioactive map elements in the area and its impact on the local. The specific impact caused by the ecological environment. The results of this paper are as follows: In the water environment surveyed this time, surface water has the highest content of radioactive thorium at 0.2μg/L, and the lowest concentration of radioactive thorium in groundwater, with an average concentration of 0.04 μg/L. And with the depth of surface water sampling, there is a negative correlation between the content of thorium in the water. This research content can provide sufficient reference materials for the occurrence of thorium in the water in industrial mining areas, and is of great significance to the related research on radioactive elements in the water.

In the paper there is presented an evaluation of variability of surface water quality (reservoirs and watercourses), on the area of degraded post-mining area in Bytom. The physicochemical analysis of water and compared with archival data obtained in 2009 and 2014. There were done analysis of following parameters: reaction, total content of substances dissolved in water, water hardness and the content of: Cl-, SO42-, HCO3-, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, NH4+, NO3-, NO2-, PO4- ions as well as Fe and Mn. The examined surface waters were characterised by high content of solutes. Anions were dominated by chlorides, the sodium proved to be the dominating cation, the examined water samples were characterised by high concentration of sulphates. In all analyzed reservoirs, permissible concentrations of chlorides and sulphates were exceeded. In all sample points there was observed a decrease of pH value in long term period, the concentration of chlorides lowered, however concentrations of sulphates increased in the majority of sampling points.

The visual and odorous characteristics of the environment tend to be those which have the greatest impact upon the public's assessment of environmental quality. In many cases the public's perception of water quality may be based entirely on these aesthetic aspects of a water environment. Those responsible for the management of surface water quality recognise the need to apply a range of management strategies including a consideration of the public's perception of water quality and the impact of this upon their use of rivers and beaches for recreation and amenity. This paper reports upon the results from a recent investigation into the impact of sewage derived litter on perceived water and environmental quality.

The 2000 land reform programme implemented by the government of Zimbabwe came with an initiative of acquiring enormous hectares of white-owned farmland and distributing it on a massive scale to small-scale farmers. Indeed the greater part of the land was taken from the white commercial farmers and distributed to the majority black Zimbabweans, leaving only a small share of the farmland in the hands of the whites. The land reform programme, undoubtedly, benefited Zimbabweans. In Zimbabwe, especially in mining areas, there are classes of Zimbabweans, those who originate from Zimbabwe, as well as those who are of foreign origin, but are Zimbabweans by birth. Zimbabweans by birth who are of foreign origin occupied an allocated A2 farm, Capital Block, located near a cement mining area, Colleen Bawn. Most of them were of Malawian origin, and the area is now popularly known as ‘New Malawi’. This study sought to investigate how Zimbabweans of foreign origin benefited from the 2000 land reform programme. The article further sought to reveal the diverse farming systems as well as Indigenous Knowledge (IK), which were passed on from the forefathers who were born in Malawi, but migrated to Zimbabwe’s mining areas in search for employment in the then Rhodesia around 1960. A qualitative methodology was used in this research, in which oral history interviews were conducted with the people living in the area of the ‘New Malawi’. The study revealed that most of the land was being used for farming purposes. Beneficiaries of the programme had become self-dependent. The study further revealed that there was knowledge sharing among the beneficiaries of different foreign origins including Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana and those of Zimbabwean origin. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the programme benefited a number of people of foreign origins who were now Zimbabweans by birth and Zimbabweans by both birth and origin were happy with these people benefiting, a situation which shows the extent to which Zimbabweans are tolerant of foreigners.

The Eastern Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is a national strategic measure to improve the water supply conditions of the cities along the route, Jiaodong and Huaibei regions. However, the Water Diversion Project not only brings social and economic benefits, but also changes the hydrological situation and ecological environment of water source area, transfer area and receiving area. In this paper, Dongping Lake is selected as the research object. By using the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy evaluation method, the index system of the impact assessment of the Eastern route project on the water environment of Dongping Lake is constructed, and a multi-level fuzzy evaluation model is established to conduct quantitative and qualitative research on the impacts of hydrology, meteorology, water ecological environment, soil and other aspects as well as ecological and economic compensation. The analysis results show that the operation of the Eastern route project has brought some negative effects on Dongping Lake, mainly reflected in the aspects of soil, ecological compensation, hydrology and meteorology, and the negative effects on the water ecological environment are light. By studying the impact of the Eastern route project on the water environment of Dongping Lake, this paper aims to improve the environmental impact assessment system for the water receiving area of the Eastern Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and to provide reference for the research on the environmental impact assessment system for other water diversion projects in China.

Abstract. In global hydrological models, groundwater storages and flows are generally simulated by linear reservoir models. Recently, the first global gradient-based groundwater models were developed in order to improve the representation of groundwater-surface water interactions, capillary rise, lateral flows and human water use impacts. However, the reliability of model outputs is limited by a lack of data as well as model assumptions required due to the necessarily coarse spatial resolution. The impact of data quality is presented by showing the sensitivity of a groundwater model to changes in the only available global hydraulic conductivity data-set. To better understand the sensitivity of model output to uncertain spatially distributed parameter inputs, we present the first application of a global sensitivity method for a global-scale groundwater model using nearly 2000 steady-state model runs of the global gradient-based groundwater model G3M. By applying the Morris method in a novel domain decomposition approach that identifies global hydrological response units, spatially distributed parameter sensitivities are determined for a computationally expensive model. Results indicate that globally simulated hydraulic heads are equally sensitive to hydraulic conductivity, groundwater recharge and surface water body elevation, though parameter sensitivities vary regionally. For large areas of the globe, rivers are simulated to be either losing or gaining, depending on the parameter combination, indicating a high uncertainty of simulating the direction of flow between the two compartments. Mountainous and dry regions show a high variance in simulated head due to numerical difficulties of the model, limiting the reliability of computed sensitivities in these regions. This instability is likely caused by the uncertainty in surface water body elevation. We conclude that maps of spatially distributed sensitivities can help to understand complex behaviour of models that incorporate data with varying spatial uncertainties. The findings support the selection of possible calibration parameters and help to anticipate challenges for a transient coupling of the model.

ABSTRACTSand and stone mining activities along the Berni River in Sumberasri Village, Nglegok District, Blitar Regency are still ongoing, so that the impact on the community is increasingly being felt. The real impact felt by the community is landslides and erosion. The purpose of this study was to analyze the community's response to the impact of sand and rock mining activities in the Berni River, Sumberasri Village, Nglegok District, Blitar Regency. The method used is a survey by conducting interviews with 40 residents who live around the Berni River, Sumberasri Village, Nglegok District, Blitar Regency. Based on the data analysis that has been carried out and explained, most of the people living around the mining area are not disturbed by mining activities because sand and rock mining is their main livelihood. There are 80% of people living in mining areas who admit that mining activities do not interfere with their activities, 90% of people who live in mining areas admit that their health is not disturbed, and 80% of people who live in mining areas admit that they have benefited from sand and rock mining activities. the. However, they all realized that the mining of sand and rock was causing losses, namely that more roads were damaged and erosion and landslides were frequent. Keywords: Mine, Sand and Stone. ABSTRAKAktivitas penambangan pasir dan batu di sepanjang Sungai Berni di Desa Sumberasri, Kecamatan Nglegok, Kabupaten Blitar masih berlangsung sampai saat ini, sehingga dampak di masyarakat semakin dirasakan. Dampak nyata yang dirasakan masyarakat adalah longsor dan erosi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis respon masyarakat terhadap dampak aktivitas penambangan pasir dan batu di Sungai Berni, Desa Sumberasri, Kecamatan Nglegok, Kabupaten Blitar. Metode yang digunakan adalah survei dengan melakukan wawancara terhadap 40 warga yang tinggal di sekitar Sungai Berni, Desa Sumberasri, Kecamatan Nglegok, Kabupaten Blitar. Berdasarkan analisis data yang telah dilakukan dan dijelaskan, sebagian besar masyarakat yang tinggal di sekitar area pertambangan tidak mendapat gangguan akibat aktivitas penambangan karena penambangan pasir dan batu tersebut merupakan mata pencaharian utama mereka. Terdapat 80% masyarakat yang tinggal di area pertambangan mengakui bahwa aktivitas penambangan tidak mengganggu aktivitas mereka, 90% masyarakat yang tinggal di area pertambangan mengakui bahwa kesehatan tidak terganggu, dan 80% masyarakat yang tinggal di area pertambangan mengaku mendapat manfaat dari kegiatan penambangan pasir dan batu tersebut. Namun, mereka semua menyadari bahwa penambangan pasir dan batu tersebut menyebabkan kerugian, yaitu semakin banyak jalan yang rusak serta sering terjadi erosi dan longsor. Kata kunci: Tambang, Pasir dan Batu.

AbstractThe ecological environment directly affects human life. One of the ecological environmental issues that China is presently facing is deterioration of the ecological environment due to mining. The pollution produced by mining causes the destruction of land, water bodies, the atmosphere, and vegetation resources and new geological problems that seriously impact human civilization and life. The main purpose of this study is to present an environmental assessment model of mine pollution to evaluate the eco-environment of mining. This study added mineral species and mining types into the factor layers and built an improved evaluation system to accurately evaluate the impact of mines on the eco-environment. In the non-mining area, the grades of the eco-environment were divided according to the Technical Criterion for Ecosystem Status Evaluation standard document. In the mining area, the grades of the assessment for the eco-environment were classified by a field survey. After comparing the accuracy of various methods, the support vector machine (SVM) model, with an accuracy of 94.8%, was chosen for the mining area, and the classification and regression tree (CART) model, with an accuracy of 89.36%, was chosen for the non-mining area. Finally, environmental assessment maps for the entire study area were generated. The results indicate that the mine environmental assessment system established by this study avoids the subjective limitations of traditional assessment methods, provides an effective method for assessing ecological quality, and will help relevant departments to plan for mine resources.

There are several former bauxite mining areas on Bintan Island which until now have been left open and not managed properly. In Tanjungpinang, the location of the former bauxite mine is located around the mangrove forest ecosystem. The impact of bauxite mining that changes the structure, texture, and physical of the soil can interfere with the development of the root system and the growth of surrounding plants, including mangroves. Therefore, it is necessary to know the health condition of mangroves around the former bauxite mining area. The method used is a cluster plot by calculating the percentage of tree damage based on organ location, type, and level of damage. The results of the analysis show that the health condition of the mangrove forest in Tanjungpinang City is healthy (50,9%); slightly damaged (40,4%) and moderately damaged (8,8%). The locations of the organs that suffered the most damage were roots, lower and upper stems, and leaves. The most common type of damage found roots submerged in red mud; stems and leaves covered with dust and red sand; termite; broken stem; roots break and die; broken shoots; and the leaves change color. The greatest severity is found between 10% and 20%.

The massive construction of buildings has changed the city’s aquatic ecological environment. The aquatic ecological condition of the city has been deteriorated with serious water issues. To coordinate various departments to jointly build the sponge city and improve the water environment, the Shenzhen government formulated the policy note on “Interim Measures for the Construction Management of Shenzhen Sponge City”. This article discusses the impact of the policy note on Shenzhen’s construction of sponge cities. The result shows that the policy is effective from the perspective of the environment. However, in the face of a complex water ecological environment, there are still some deficiencies in the policy. We therefore put forward policy suggestions for the Shenzhen municipal government to better manage its construction of sponge city in the future.
