The study area belongs to the southern edge of the central High Atlas. It is limited to the North by the Sub-atlasic accident and to the South by the extension of the Eastern Anti Atlas formations. To determine the depositional environments of the Senonian series, a sedimentological analysis of the facies was carried out based on field observations by the recognition of sedimentary structures and textures. An exoscopic analysis of the quartz grains was also carried out by a systematic prospecting of the grain relief and of all the characters that will appear on the surface of the grain after the formation of the mother rock at the origin place, during transport, immobilization phases and deposition. It seems very interesting to prospect for the clayey side in these Upper Cretaceous reddish formations because the evolution of the clayey and non-clayey assemblages in this central basin of the High Atlas will depend mainly on the combination of tectonic, eustatic, climatic and other influences. The Senonian of Foum El Kous which has a less important thickness corresponds to continental deposits that act the role of a natural barrier that separates on both sides the two sub-basins: Sidi Ali Oubork in the East and Ait youl in the West.

In this paper, we present the sedimentological, stratigraphic and paleogeographic aspect of the Upper Cretaceous red formations (Senonian series) of Timstiguite region (Central High Atlas of Morocco). The formations were measured bed by bed and sampled in a very detailed way. An exoscopic analysis of the quartz grains was carried out by a systematic prospecting of the grains relief and theirs surface characteristic, this led us to characterize their origin and consequently to determine the different paleoenvironnements. The clay sediments of these formations seem to be a favorable prospect in point of view: evolution of the clay and non-clay sediments in this central basin of the High Atlas will depend mainly on the conjugation of tectonic, eustatic, climatic and other influences. The senonian thickness is more important than other sub basins (Albban and Imider) where it shows a very reduced thickness. The Senonian of Timstiguite corresponds to a succession of detrital and evaporitic carbonate facies, which confirms a coastal depositional environment with passages of some periods of marine emersions.

The sedimentological study of the red formations (Senonian series) represents a challenge and an exciting subject that needs to be explored. This paper will present the sedimentological, stratigraphic, and paleogeographic aspects of the Upper Cretaceous of the ARG N'SIDIALI OR BOURK, Central High Atlas Morocco. In this region, a marker section was realized bed by bed and sampled in a very straightforward way in order to study stratigraphy, to describe, to interpret and to characterize the sedimentary environment of the senonian succession in the ARG N'SIDIALI OU BOURK region, more particularly the analysis of the clays by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) has allowed understanding the depositional environments of the Upper Cretaceous formations. Therefore, the Senonian of ARG N'SIDIALI OU BOURK corresponds to continental lagoon deposits. It is characterised by sedimentation in the continental environment (fluvial or flooded), with some rare marine ascents marked by the installation of whitish sandstone bars.

The Cretaceous Methow Basin of north-central Washington is the southernmost of a series of Mesozoic successor basins in the Cordillera of western North America. The Albian–Campanian(?) Virginian Ridge Formation comprises three members, newly defined here, that gradationally interfinger with each other and grade laterally and upward into overlying strata. Detailed stratigraphic analysts of the Virginian Ridge Formation and of the intimately related parts of the Winthrop and Midnight Peak formations indicates that these units represent complexly interfingering facies derived from a variety of sources, both to the west and to the east of the basin and locally within the system. This study suggests a detailed model for the history of the Upper Cretaceous Methow Basin: generation of a restricted basin with a stable, roughly north–south-trending axis, filled by a stable, east-derived fluvial and deltaic system (Winthrop Formation) interfingering with a laterally amalgamated, west-derived northward and eastward transgressive fan-delta system (Virginian Ridge Formation). The sequence grades upward into, and finally is overwhelmed by, locally derived volcanics of the Midnight Peak Formation. Similar, and in part coeval, successor basin sequences throughout the North American Cordillera may have been generated in response to similar tectonic settings.

The Upper Cretaceous – Danian chalk may be considered to be the economically most important rock type in Denmark. Onshore it constitutes an important groundwater aquifer and it is also quarried for e.g. building materials and paper production. Offshore the chalk reservoirs contain more than 80% of the oil and gas produced in Denmark (Fig. 1). During the last few years efforts have therefore been made to map this important succession in the Danish and adjoining areas (Vejbæk et al. 2003). The stratigraphic interval mapped comprises the Chalk Group of Cenomanian to Danian ages and its stratigraphically equivalent units (Fig. 2). The north-eastern limit of the Chalk Group is determined by Neogene erosion. The limits of the map to the west and south were mainly determined by the amount of available data.

The present work deals with the sedimentological, lithostratigraphic and paleoenvironmental study of the red (Senonian) series of the two sections Asfalou and Anmitar located in the district of Imini, Asfalou. These areas are semi-arid zone in the south of the High central Atlas-Morocco. Different analysis was performed such as a sedimentological, lithostratigraphic analysis of the facies to recognise sedimentary structures and textures encountered. Also, the collection of samples for exoscopic analysis of quartz grains was conducted, and the analysis of clay procession was done. In general, all the sedimentation was spent in a continental environment (fluvial or flooded) with some rare marine upwellings that are marked by the installation of dolomite bars.

<p>ABSTRACT</p><p>The establishment of the city of Batavia on the west coast of the north coast of Java, cannot be separated from the role of a figure named Jean Pieterzoon Coen. Although previously Jayakarta (the name before Batavia), was controlled and built by Pangeran Fatahillah, the situation and conditions in the social and economic fields of Jayakarta were not like the management of J.P. Coen. After Jayakarta was controlled by the VOC, through a military expedition policy designed by JP. Coen, the condition of the city of Jayakarta slowly gradually increased in the social and economic fields. The increase in the city of Batavia in the social and economic fields was based on three JP policies. Coen was quite brave, namely increasing trade activities in the Sunda port of Kalapa, revitalizing the position of the islands in northern Batavia as a base of administration and defense and security, and opening the widest door for Chinese traders and immigrants. The three policies, in fact, were purely based on the thoughts outlined by JP. Coen, after taking over the Jayakarta area from the mastery of Prince Fatahillah.</p><p>Keywords: J.P. Meskipun sebelumnya Jayakarta (nama sebelum Batavia), dikuasai dan dibangun oleh Pangeran Fatahillah, akan tetapi situasi dan kondisi dalam bidang sosial dan ekonomi Jayakarta tidak seperti pada masa pengelolaan J.P. Coen. Setelah Jayakarta dikuasai oleh VOC, melalui kebijakan ekspedisi militer yang dirancang oleh JP. Coen, keadaan kota Jayakarta perlahan demi perlahan semakin meningkat dalam bidang sosial dan ekonomi. Peningkatan kota Batavia dalam lapangan sosial dan ekonomi dilatari oleh tiga kebijakan JP. Coen yang cukup berani, yakni meningkatkan aktivitas perdagangan di pelabuhan Sunda Kalapa, merevitalisasi kedudukan pulau-pulau di utara Batavia sebagai basis adiministrasi dan pertahanan dan keamanan, serta membuka pintu seluas-luasnya bagi pedagang dan pendatang etnis Tionghoa. Tiga kebijakan tersebut, sejatinya meurpakan murni hasil pemikiran yang dituangkan olh JP. Coen, setelah mengambil alih wilayah Jayakarta dari penguasaan pangeran Fatahillah.</p><p>Kata Kunci : J.P. This book examines history and thought “before and after Muhammad” by offering a new perspective on the debate about “the West and the Rest,” about America's destiny and Europe's identity. One party explains how Europe and eventually North America—the North Atlantic world—left the rest in the dust from about 1500. The other side argues that Asia—China, Japan, and the Islamic trio of Mughals, Safavids, and Ottomans—remained largely free of European encroachment until the mid-1700s, but then either collapsed for internal reasons, or else were gradually undermined by colonial powers' superior technological, economic, and military power. In seeking to overhaul the foundations of this debate, especially as regards the role of Islam and the Islamic world, the book reformulates the history of the First Millennium, by the end of which Islam had matured sufficiently to be compared with patristic Christianity, in order to fit Islam into it. The book draws primarily on Edward Gibbon's account of East Rome and Islam.

Abstract The Upper Cretaceous of the Elbe Valley in Saxony and the erosion outliers west of it mark an Upper Cretaceous NW-SE-running strait between the Westsudetic Island in the NE and the Mid-European Island to the west. This street connected the NW-German-Polish Basin in the north and the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (and adjacent regions of the Tethys) in the south. However, post-Cretaceous erosion north of Meißen removed any Upper Cretaceous deposits but erosion outliers at Siebenlehn and especially north of the Forest of Tharandt proof the presence of a marly through silty belt in this area. Three transgressions (base of uppermost Lower to Middle Cenomanian, base of Upper Cenomanian and base of the geslinianum Zone in the mid-Upper Cenomanian) have taken place. The sedimentation was influenced by the topography of the mentioned islands and by movements at structural lines in the Proterozoic and Palaeozoic basement. During the early Late Cenomanian, a marly-silty sedimentation (Mobschatz Formation) in the north existed besides sandy sedimentation in the south (Oberhäslich Formation). The transgression at the base of the geslinianum Zone caused the final submergence of island chains between Meißen, Dresden and Pirna, and a litho- and biofacies bound to cliffs and submarine swells formed. A silty-marly lithofacies, a mixed sandy-silty lithofacies (Dölzschen Formation) and a sandy lithofacies in the south (Sächsisches Elbsandsteingebirge) co-existed during the latest Cenomanian. The first mentioned biofacies yields a rich fauna mainly consisting of oysters, pectinids, rudists, and near-shore gastropods accompanied by echinids and, in some cliffs, teeth of sharks. The Pennrich fauna (Häntzschel 1933; Uhlig 1941) especially consists of the very common serpulids Pyrgopolon (P.) septemsulcata and Glomerula lombricus (formerly Hepteris septemsulcata and G. gordialis).

The uppermost Cretaceous continental deposits of the Neuquén Basin (west-central Argentina) have yielded a high diversity vertebrate assemblage, including numerous dinosaur species. The Neuquén Group is the richest unit in remains of dinosaur of the basin and comprises the Río Limay, the Río Neuquén and the Río Colorado subgroups. In this group, there is abundance of isolated, disarticulated or partially articulated sauropods and theropods. However, little is known about the taphonomic history of fossil assemblages. In this study, dinosaur remains from the Plottier Formation (late Coniacian-early Santonian) found in the Cerro Guillermo area in southern Mendoza are examined. The investigation of fossil occurrences within the study area revealed the existence of different taphonomic modes, from isolated bones until partially articulated skeletons preserved in deposits of floodplain and fluvial channel settings. SEM-EDS analysis showed the substitution of hydroxyapatite by francolite in the bone microstructure. The presence of fluorine-in one of the cases-suggested a link between the elemental composition and depositional environments: floodplain and fluvial channel. The survey of the vertebrate accumulation types and their sedimentary context allowed documenting a wide range of processes responsible for their genesis, operating within a meandering fluvial environment. This contribution represents a holistic approach about taphonomic history of Cretaceous dinosaurs for assessing the differential preservation of fossil assemblages in fluvial environments.

Ideally, the proliferation of the administrative region is aimed at improving the welfare of society. In reality, the proliferation of the administrative region often triggers the regional disputation. The regional disputation between the North Halmahera and the West Halmahera regencies is one of the cases that took a long time. There are six villages that contested in this regional disputation, namely Dum-Dum, Gamsungi/Akesahu, Akelamo Kao, Tetewang, Bobane Igo, and Pasir Putih. At first, the government of the North Halmahera and the West Halmahera regencies coordinated to settle their region boundaries. But it develops to the status issue of the six villages: are the six villages part of the North Halmahera or the West Halmahera regencies. This research is aimed at explaining the regional disputation between the North Halmahera and the West Halmahera regencies, 2003-2010. The method used in this research is the historical method, which consists of four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The result of this research indicates there are cultural dimension that colored this regional disputation and there is a role of local political elites (DPRD Halmahera Utara).
