In this paper, an ultrathin and polarization-insensitive THz perfect metamaterial absorber (PMA) was proposed using the traditional sandwiched structure with circular patch resonators on the top layer. The simulated spectrum shows that the proposed PMA has three distinctive absorption peaks at f1 = 0.8 THz, f2 = 2.28 THz and f3 = 3.62 THz, with absorbance of 96.7%, 97.9% and 99.8%, respectively. The electric field distributions of the PMA reveal that the absorption mainly originates from the standing wave resonances between the top and bottom layers. The proposed PMA is polarization insensitive due to its axisymmetric unit cell structure. By adjusting the structure parameters, the resonance frequency, intensity and Q-factor of absorption peak can be tuned effectively. Our design may find potential applications in THz imaging, sensing and signal detection.

A broadband and polarization-insensitive optical metamaterial absorber (MA) based on the refractory metal chromium (Cr) closed-ring resonator is theoretically investigated. The semiconducting silicon dioxide (SiO[Formula: see text] thin film is introduced as the space layer in this sandwiched structure. Utilizing the symmetrical geometry of the proposed MA structure, polarization insensitivity of the broadband absorption is gained. The simulation results show that the absorber with Cr closed-ring array obtains an average absorption of 99.25% from 400[Formula: see text]nm to 900[Formula: see text]nm, covering the total visible wavelength range. This compact design may have potential applications in solar energy harvesting, thermal imaging, and emissivity control.

We present a design of an ultra-broadband metamaterial absorber in the visible and near- infrared regions. The unit cell structure consists of a single layer of metallic truncated-pyramid resonator-dielectric-metal configuration, which results in a high absorption over a broad wavelength range. The absorber exhibits 98% absorption at normal incidence spanning a wideband range of 417–1091 nm, with >99% absorption within 822–1054 nm. The broadband absorption stability maintains 95% at large incident angles up to 40° for the transverse electric (TE)-mode and 20° for the transverse magnetic (TM)-mode. Furthermore, the polarization-insensitive broadband absorption is presented in this paper by analyzing absorption performance with various polarization angles. The proposed absorber can be applied for applications such as solar cells, infrared detection, and communication systems thanks to the convenient and compatible bandwidth for electronic THz sources.

We designed an ultra-thin dual-band metamaterial absorber by adjusting the side strips’ length of an H-shaped unit cell in the opposite direction to break the structural symmetry. The dual absorption peaks approximately 99.95% and 99.91% near the central resonance frequency of 4.72 THz and 5.0 THz were obtained, respectively. Meanwhile, a plasmon-induced transmission (PIT) like reflection window appears between the two absorption frequencies. In addition to theoretical explanations qualitatively, a multi-reflection interference theory is also investigated to prove the simulation results quantitatively. This work provides a way to obtain perfect dual-band absorption through an asymmetric metamaterial structure, and it may achieve potential applications in a variety of fields including filters, sensors, and some other functional metamaterial devices.

A multi-band perfect metamaterial absorber (MA) based on a cylindrical waveguide with polarization independency is numerically presented and investigated in detail. The proposed absorber has a very simple configuration, and it operates at flexible frequency ranges within the microwave frequency regime by simply tuning the dimensions of the structure. The maximum absorption values are obtained as 99.9%, 97.5%, 85.8%, 68.2% and 40.2% at the frequencies of 1.34 GHz, 2.15 GHz, 3.2 GHz, 4.31 GHz and 5.41 GHz, respectively. The numerical studies verify that the proposed model can provide multi-band perfect absorptions at wide polarization and incident angles due to its rotational symmetry feature. We have also realized sensor and parametric study applications in order to show additional features of the suggested model. The suggested MA enables myriad potential applications in medical technologies, sensors and in defense industry etc.

this article, a multi-band polarization-insensitive metamaterial absorber is designed for THz imaging and EMI shielding. A unique oval-shaped structure with three circular ring-shaped resonators is proposed with a unit cell dimension of36×36×19.6μm3. The absorbance of the proposed multiband MMA is 98.57%, 90%and 99.85% at 5.58, 7.98-8.84, 11.45THz frequency respectively. Return loss is nearly the same for the changing incident and polarization angle. Therefore, this metamaterial absorber with a wide range of polarization insensitivity is found and it is also suitable for quantum RADAR Imaging, energy harvesting, and optoelectronic devices.

The design of an optically transparent and flexible metamaterial absorber was presented and fabricated. For this purpose, we use two different patterned silver nanowire films separated by the space layer, forming a transparent sandwiched structure with an ultrathin thickness. By analyzing the equivalent circuit model and distribution of electric field and current, the absorption physical mechanism has been theoretically investigated. The results show that the structure can achieve above 0.8 absorptions from 6 GHz to 18 GHz, and at the same time, this absorber also can obtain wide-angle property. The optical transmittance of the fabricated absorber exceeds 82% in the visible band. The results demonstrate that transparency and flexibility are the additional benefits that make the proposed absorber suitable for various potential applications.
